- During the 19th edition of the Route du Rock festival in Saint Malo, France, we crossed paths with Annie Clark aka St Vincent. She had her guitar and was happy to do a little acoustic session with us!
Thank you so much, St Vincent, for playing along and doing 2 tracks "Actor Out Of Work" and "The Strangers". A real chill out relaxing moment to break up festival madness!

Her second CD "Actor" has the first song, by the same name. The second song is "The Strangers" which is the first song on that CD. "Actor" she performs in concert with an electric guitar & more "edge"... "Strangers" on CD gets some of her vocalized sounds here "orchestrated" on a synth; but here, in a field (!) it's just her basic artistry.

I sit and take a singing pill in the middle of Earth and witness these people scream at my great and decidedly kaleidoscopic divide - whilst the other sky stands terrifically respectable, upright and righteously erect
Haven't we all been seeing all of these misshapen things before and at another focal point wherein softer people fail to cry by the curvature of an over-elongated eye see a rattle-snake shake it's bare-naked skin
Paid for by way of their perfectly imperfect portrayal
And this is our parallel and peripheral vision twisted and tweeted colloquially midst - one of an unkindly kind it seems to appear to be
This is starting to feel a little bit as though these makeshift masks are miserly and treacherously mistaken for someone else - asking themselves to be wrapped right by our shrieking-faced portrayal
No way in and neither a way out from under here, no venture gained the less and lesser said of anything - about to be bed-ridden with eagle-eyed awareness again
Lose all of your irreversible time and we begin to creep-crawl like vigilante spiders near the shrieking ceiling
A pill to steer us creatively clear
I turn the telly on again and again and begin to sit and sin one millisecond at a magnified minute, and there appears to be a paedophile child carrying shy shy time - adulterous by all accords of which
Wide-screen reality screens scream sweet sweet kisses of Californian contagion
Which way do we go from here to be there though, and I will have to lean in and whisper and wish to ask you this final contrived thing, but are you fully and fantastically prepared to do something that nobody insane has ever really truly done with themselves before?
Sprint from the scene of the unrealised crime while everyone else has been watching the pretty little icing-caked surface of that widescreen telly again
Vomiting all over the floor, addicted to whichever comes first - the bed or the eagle-eyed re-awareness
Go on, do it for yourself - save glorious face and kiss me when you are ready because I am still fucking sitting here whilst I wait with weapons for knitting fingers
We were supposed to lead a bohemian existence, when all that we ever lead are broken dreams
Photograph yourself until it makes sense of itself, you jet-lagged imbecile
Can we please begin to be infantile and impervious to all of this? I am hoping for you to call the truth for what it is... whilst I remind myself to catch that other sky as I start to stand terrifically respectable, upright and righteously erect again

I really prefer this version of Strangers to the album version. It makes so much more sense to me this way and the lyrics seem to hit home better.

There are a lot of musicians who we call artists that aren't. There is nothing original about them and what they do isn't really art. Annie is an artist. Sometimes watching her play is like staring at a really complex painting. I saw her for the first time at Day for Night Festival. I had never heard of her but walked away not only a fan but a bit obsessed. I can't stop watching her you tube videos daily. I'd rather watch her live than in any of the produced videos. They are misleading because you don't get to see her talent & what she really does in them. The sounds that are made using her guitar instead of a track on a soundboard. She is amazingly talented and her beauty in chaos sound is refreshingly different from the stuff you hear everyday. She is that painting in a museum that you are so mesmerized by that you cant look away. You go home and see it when you close your eyes so you scour the internet looking for a print. She is beautiful and has absolutely become my favorite artist!

Simple elegance - aside from her beautiful acoustic virtuosity, highlighting her melodic composition, hearing her accompany her lyrics with just her vocal patterns, with no studio enhancement, shows the profound talent of this true artist. Bird joins in at 3:45!

I'm not concerned about her artistry, for all I care she can do whatever the fuck she wants. If you were her would you: At least burn out by doing something different (be hated for who you are)? Or stick to the same formula and fade away (Be loved for who you are not)?

People get so wrapped up in musical complexity these days they forget about music. Then at the same time, they dance and listen to music that is the most simple crap ever. It's great :) most mainstream rap can be made on a laptop but if you are playing guitar you have to be playing sweeps at 300 Bpm to be considered good. Haha what a world we live in.
Chromaesthesia Too tru, it's fun to be flashy with a guitar but some of my favorite songs aren't super complex or have crazy shredding solos. Well some of them do, but point being some of my favorite songs are my favs based on their riffs or their feel.
