So a few interesting facts that they missed in the Kursk video:
If you took all the trenches the Soviets dug just for this engagement and stretched them out in a single line, you could connect Moscow to Madrid.
The Soviet defence positions were very well made. Designed as their own mini trench forts, they had anti tank guns facing in several directions - not just forward but to the sides and angles - along with anti-tank rifle dug outs. Every single defence point was dug in range of another so that if the German tanks penetrated through they’d be engaged from two sides or if a solo one was attacked they’d be able to support.
The Soviets actually took deep care in training their men for this battle. For the common infantryman they spent night and day running over their trenches with tanks - they referred to it as “ironing” - to be able to get the fear out of them when German tanks rolled over.
They scoured their entire army for the best gun layers and loaders for their anti-tank guns and trained them not on shooting at the German tank hulls but at tracks and gun barrels (if you can kill the hull, disable the weapon, again another reason the Germans didn’t lose massive tank numbers but suffered a lot of damaged ones).
This battle is also one of the first where the Soviet army would learn its craft in concealment. They had concealed all their positions so well, that when the first German tanks began rolling forward, not a single Soviet anti-tank position had been correctly identified before the battle.
This would actually be the first engagement where the new Panther tank and Elephant (Self-Propelled AT) tank would take part in. The Elephant would suffer majorly in this battle with dozens being knocked out in the first day due to track damage.
As for the Soviet Sapper units. Not only did they plant a million mines before the battle, they were formed into mobile sapper units whose duty it was, was to stay infront of the German advance and continuously deploy mines.
They got so good at this that German commanders would note just how quickly the Soviets were able to deploy entire minefields in there path during a breakthrough.

@@TouchyReactions if I can recommend a weird documentary series. It’s called Soviet Storm. It covers alot of the eastern front and a lot of the major engagements.
Note it was made for Russia and had an English dub so… it does have quite some bias to it at points and fails to go massively into details with others, but it does cover some aspects in a neutral light.
However it does give a good description of the equipment used and the battlefields.
Like all history documentaries don’t take everything as 100% factual as there is always bias in them, but using it can definitely help expand the picture of how events went down.

They also learned just how much of a monster the elephant was on defense Sadly the Germans didn't use them in the defensive role they where designed for causing most to catch fire from there transmissions over heating.

While every member of the Allies and even some neutral countries made contributions, some large some small, there is a reason the phrase is "WW2 was won with British intelligence, American Steel, and Russian Blood."

@@TouchyReactions Defence of Moscow is quite a good one, I dunno if you mentioned this in the video or not, but that one is actually not a Sabaton original. The story is that Radio Tapok made a cover of Sabaton's song ""Attack of the Dead Men" and then Sabaton had him on stage with them in Russia a few years back, after all that Radio Tapok makes his own song in Russian which is heavily inspired by Sabaton's style, the song is called "Defence of Moscow" and then Sabaton makes a cover of it in English. This was a somewhat convoluted explanation of the story, but I hope I got across the gist of it.

There's an error in the history. General Walther Model was commander of the 9th Army, Field Marshal Gunther von Kluge was commander of Army Group Centre. Kluge was the one who organised the preparations for the expected Soviet offensive towards Orel and subsequently towards Smolensk. The video talks as if Model commanded Army Group Centre, which was not the case. Model did replace Manstein as commander of his Army Group (which had several names in 1943/44) but at the time he was commanding 9th Army under Kluge's Army Group Centre.
Later on Model would replace Manstein in command of his Army Group (which was variously named Army through 1943/44). And after Operation Bagration would temporarily get command of Army Group Centre's remnants too, before commanding on the Western Front.

    About the losses of WWII.
It's still to this day unclear as to who lost the most. Russia, or the China's. Since there was like 6 China's on the United Front side & 2 of the Japanese side.
Some sources say China lost up to 24 million while the general consensus for Russia is only 22 million.
Also, fun yet scary fact : With only sending about 300 tanks to Kursk. The Germans sent more than 3 times the amount of tanks they sent to the western front from D-Day till the Fall of Berlin. Only 90 tanks ever made it to the western front. Over 90% of Germany's forces were sent to stop the Russian steam roller.

One of my favourite songs from that album... "Operation Zitadelle" was a technically a tactical victory for the German army... but a strategic loss, since they could not replenish their tanks that easily... a very interesting battle and piece of history.. nice reaction as always, thank you!

As a russian who is interested in own history, i could say, that combined losses of red army was not so large as em usually describe. USSR lost 27millions ppl in the Great Patriotic War(now, honestly there are some talks about 42 millions, but this is fake, it seems) so, this is a huge amount and unbelievable tragedy but in the structere, only 6.5 millions were soldiers, the others are civils, which were murdered. In compare, germans lost 4 millions on this front, but Axis lost 8 millions including italians, romanians, bulgarians, Finland's soldiers, france legion, and so on. the main losses were in the beginig. BTW, there is a contry which sacrifised more than soviet union - it is China. The war started in 1937 for them and finished with the defeat of Japan on the second of september. But just try to imagine that the population of Soviet Union was about 220 millions, it is even less, than in USA, i suppose... 27 millions of ppl, true communists, peasants, workers, mothers and children - this is the strike which was a slowly bomb for soviet union

Your comments go straight to the point. While the new equipment of the German army was superior, the Soviets had the numbers. As the casualties were not an issue for them, the Soviet applied the "bleeding dry" method with success.

Regarding the new album - they have done history episodes for Christmas Truce, Soldier Of Heaven and Unkillable Soldier, so you could do those ones with offical lyric videos (I know you did the music videos already). There is a cool acoustic live version of Christmas Truce that you could include as well. Great job as always 👍

      Lejonet från norden
Ett slag färgat rött (killing ground)
      Stormtroopers
      The last stand
      Bismarck
      The red baron

      Soldier of heaven
      Fields of verdun
      Ruina imperii
      Steel commanders
Swedish pagans (the crowd forced him)
      Karolinens bön (caroleans prayer)
      Primo victoria
Just as a joke Tommy started playing some kids show music so Joakim got pissed and turned to Chris instead who played some highway to hell.
Then they finished off with one of my favourites, To hell and back
This is the 10th year anniversary of the Carolus Rex album so they played quite a bit of that, which was awesome for us Swedes! It was just so surreal seeing them in person and now I love them even more than I did before

Overall Soviet loses in WW2 to both Germans and their own were as high as 25mln, which is the most of any country, with China at around 17mln in second and Poland at 6mln being third. By % though, Poland lost the most, as much as 17% of pre war population died in the war, BUT! Overall Poland's population decreesed by over 11mln due to death, loosing territories, forced relocations, which caused 35mln population to decrease to just 24 post war.

It surprises me still that people are still surprised by the huge losses of an army that is known to have sent its soldiers without some mush as a rifle telling them to pick one up off your dead comrade when he bites the dust three feet in front of you. That and several other factors made them lose some many soldiers by choice.

It would be a great surprise for u, that this is a myth about the luck of weapons in soviet Union. And to proof it u can just see the amount of produced the most popular soviet weapons like mosin, svt, ppsh, ppd, pps, nagants, TT and u will see, that this weapons which are still selling by Russian and in America , for example, u can buy mosin for about 100 dollars ARE the most produced weapons in the world. Its quantity just unbelievabl. Then just imagine how weapons were there after the WWI and civil war, polish-russian war... u also can compare the amount of military vehicles of USSR and Reich in the beggining and u will see, that almost in every kind of it ussr is leader. more guns, more tanks, morcaairplanes. And to finish these myth again just try to imagine that u have a country which is a second economy of the World, where in 10 years were built more than 2000 plants and factories, which rebuilt Empires roads and train roads, where everything belongs to ppls goverment - the concentration of capital, supplies, produce powers and all aged ppl involved in this production during the war from 12 to 70 makes perfect. I dont even say about Land lease. We can talk about commanders, about tactics, XP of soldiers and the organisation of army but not about the luck of weapons. This problem appears only when u is surrounded and there is no way to send anything to u. And the myth which is related with the movie about stalingrad, where the situation u have described appears could not be true becouse even logicaly thinking - u cant fight about a year in a one city against an army without weapont while ur BLOODY ANGRY RED COMMISARS shoot in ur back(wich is another myth about blocking squads)
