Speaking of Anthony Beevor: The Mystery of Olga Chekhova (2004) is one of the most captivating biographies I've ever read. Her life is like a history lesson in itself. Not heavy reading at all! The actress Olga Chekhova (often spelt "Tschechowa") was the niece of Anton Chekhov's (the brilliant Russian playwright) wife Olga Chekhova (a magnificent actress herself). Her life was filled with stories, stories too strange to be true, and true events stranger than fiction - a mystery indeed! She was, or might have been, many things; one of Hitler's favourite actresses, a femme fatale, a formidable liar, a highly accomplished and intelligent person, a survivor, a propaganda tool in Nazi-Germany and a clever Soviet spy... A strong human being, who did what she had to do, only she did it her way...!
They just released their vlog for the Nashville show (as well as Houston, Atlanta, and Silver Spring, MD) and you can actually be seen in the audience in that video.
Paulus was actually promoted to Field Marshal, the highest rank in the German military, days before the surrender. Since no German Field Marshal had ever been captured up to that point, Hitler was clearly implying that Paulus should commit suicide rather than allow himself to be captured. He didn't and ended up being the highest ranked POW captured by the Soviets during the entire war.
Its oldschool Sabaton (1999-2012)… Jocke, Par, Daniel Mullback is the drummer, Daniel Myhr is the keyboardist(joined Sabaton 2004-5)…dark haired guitarist is Oskar Montelius, the blond guitarist is , Richard Sundén it’s the “first Sabaton “ those guys leave Sabaton in 2012.. and then Tobbe Englund, Robban Bäck (drummer) and Chris joined Sabaton … good reactions btw my friend!!👍👍
My grandfather was in the 2nd Hungarian royal army as forced labor at Voronyezs near Stalingrad where tthe whole Hungarian army 200000 strong was destroyed. He walked home thousands of kms to home on foot in minus 40 celsius. He always loved Italians because Italian troops gave him food which was a house cat. One of the Italians went under the table and started to make cat noises this way he knew what he was eating.
Sabaton: don't touch Russia! - The first time we came to you in 2011 with the Scorpions, then we played 8 or 10 shows. Then... In general, in my opinion, this is already our second Russian headlining tour. And so we also came as support for Iron Maiden. - Were there any problems with the organization of concerts? I remember that in 2013 your performance on the bike the show in Volgograd was canceled due to complaints. Allegedly, one of the inhabitants of the city saw the Nazis in you. - (Laughs) No, since then there have been no such problems. And he was a local politician who decided to impose his erroneous opinion on everyone. But it wasn't like that anymore. ruclips.net/video/NPf9XvO-EJk/видео.html
I get it, this song is absolutely not for everyone. When I had a CD player in my car, I would skip it and go straight to "Into the Fire". But you have to admit, it is a heavy, grind-y song. And with lines like "Play the score of the damned" (easily the best line of the song) it really conjures some scary images. And then just the thought of the battle of Stalingrad in general is horrifying. A lot of people got thrown into that fight; we're talking millions on each side. So I think every word of the lyrics is appropriate.
I also have mixed feelings about this song. On the one hand, it's one of Sabaton's heaviest songs with also very strong lyrics from a historical source. On the other hand, I find the mishmash between the cadence of the lyrics and the rhythm of the music quite jarring. It's one of those songs that I would love to enjoy but I just can't... BTW, after Touchy's comment about his colonoscopy, I just NEED to recommend him to listen to "Uranus" by Nanowar of Steel.
16:20 think about Hitlers annoyance like this: He believed his own propaganda about the Slavs. They were, to him, unruly, disorganized and cowardly .... so imagine someone like that holding your superior race in a stalemate
@@TouchyReactions no ... he just started descending into madness faster and seeing Germans, his "ubermench", as an apathetic defeatist nation that deserves to be eradicated by the end of the war
@@FamousGirlfriend I went on sleep deprivation yesterday last night having only slept 4 hours (was up studying for a test I succeeded) then I went to sleep early yesterday to get back my sleep. I went to bed at like 21:00 and woke up recently. But yeah I know I’m weird. lol
@@melkor3496 Damn it, so you realised that? Yes, I fell asleep at 01 and I must've had a great night's sleep, because I woke up after the usual 6h, despite the fact that I had a few beers at the Temple Bar last evening. Or maybe that's why I slept so well... I'm happy to hear your test went well, I know you've talked about focusing on your education. The autumn term exams are coming up, aren't they?
@@FamousGirlfriend Most Tests have already passed actually I mean for this autumn most of the ones I have had have actually already been. Life has been stressful considering I was sick a few weeks ago an entire week which made me fall behind. Since then I’ve been on a mission to just catch up. Most of my tests have went well but I’ve planned one or two eh omprov on the holiday week.
This is definitely lacking on the lyrical side. "It's colder than hell" and "And when your time comes you will know that it's time" sum the lyrics up fairly well lol I like the heaviness of the music though. The thing with the lyrics is, they don't have much to do with Stalingrad. Some of the lyrics are weird, some are pretty cool, like the symphony of death part and the part about a single violin. I like the song, but on this one I can see why some might not like it.
The patreon pull really put Stalingrad before Purple Heart... Either they're saving Purple heart for last or well I can't think of any other reason that might make sense. You started off with a song that's close to you. So why not save the other song that would be for the end. While it might not be a medal you have received. It's unfortunately rare to serve without knowing someone who would.
Preach! EDIT: Ok, upon further contemplation, the music isn't that bad, but it's like the lyrics and music don't match. I can't put my finger on it, but it's such a mess. And in a way, the dissonance is effective, as it paints this picture of utter chaos, but even if that was their intent I still think they went about it in a weird way.
I don't see why ppl have problems with this song I like it very much
Yeah it definitely has a different uniquely dark tone to it. Great song.
It's to good for them
Their heaviest & my favorite song they've ever done... And that solo 🤘
25:50 Stalingrad was actually the first defeat Nazis admitted to their own people

Yeah we watched it this morning.
Seriously? ! That's awesome!
To me the changing of the pace always made me think of the intensity of the battle constantly dying down and shooting back up.
Going to see saboton live TONIGHT! Can't wait for it!
Oh! Have fun!!
Awesome, have a great experience
This is one of my favorites. It grows the more you listen to it.

Nothing is easy in russia, nothing. it not worth to travel there as a band :)
Of course it is! I'm happy they are making an effort for their fans worldwide. However, your first statement is 100% true: nothing is easy in Russia.
I have never really listened to this song from start to finish.
