Hi Massy! great video. You talked about the Nick Lowe record. You say that was the first album with this kind of sound. Actually, the album The Convincer is the last of The Brentford Trilogy. All the best from Germany
I dont like doing this, but my history education won't let me stay silent. The firearm that was introduced in 1835/36 to the American West that was known as "The Peacemaker" was the Colt .45 Caliber single-action revolver pistol, invented by Samuel Colt. Please forgive me, Mazzy, lol.
Having not owned or listened to vinyl in at least two decades, I’m jumping back in by deliberately listening to stuff that I don’t normally listen to. Your summaries have been very helpful to me as I look for new genres and artists. Nice hats too!
Hey Mazzy. I'm glad someone else likes Vera Sola. I picked up Peacemaker when it came out. I think I showed it in a video at the time. It was probably my favourite album released last year. I got her previous album a couple of weeks back, it's not as lush and wide-screen, but has a stripped-back intensity which is equally fascinating. The back cover photo of Ringo looks like a Jim Maguire picture. I've got a book of his photographs, every one a winner. I can't count the number of album covers which are graced by one of his photographs. If you've not heard Kassi Valazza, I think you should check out her Knows Nothing album. A fabulous album which sits somewhere between Americana and the folk of Sandy Denny with moments of psychedelia in the mix. Cheers - Hedley
Big Americana fan done here in New Zealand Mazzy. Thanks for some of those suggestions. I will definitely check them out. Here's my 5 cent's worth of what I am listening to at the moment and can give whole hearted recommendations to all (just my opinion though). I am sure you have some of these in you collection. *Michael Chapman (brilliant English 'folkish' acoustic guitarist + piano) - 'Americana' 1 (2001) and 'Americana' 2 (2002). *Turnpike Troubadours. They hail from Oklahoma and are a more country rock Americana style. I love them. Good place to start is 'Goodbye Normal Street' (2012) but their later stuff is great too. *The Secret Sisters. Sisters, Laura & Lydia Rogers from Alabama are definitely more folk acoustic Americana with country overtones. Beautiful harmonies and top songwriting. Check out their lastest 'Mind, Man & Medicine' (2024). *William Elliot Whitmore. Iowa based and more folk/blues but much of his subject matter is definitely in the Americana world. 'Field Songs' (2011) is my personal favourite of his, but I have enjoyed all of his work that I have head. I have a feeling you showed this album a while back(or perhaps someone else's channel) as I got it following that recommendation. *Lucinda Williams. No intro necessary here. I haven't disliked any of her self-written material but a good Americana starting place (apart from the obvious 'Car Wheels...) is in my opinion 'The Ghosts of Highway 20' (2015). Well I could be here all day and bore the cojones off you, so I'll just finish with Jason Isbell & the Nashville Sound, Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, The Milk Carton Kids, Hayes Carll, Missy Raines, and Sierra Hull. So many others too, but in their own 'special place' due to the legacy they give to the world of Americana are all respective opus's of Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings and Emmylou Harris. Cheers Mazzy.
I'd also say that Tumbleweed Connection was Americana before Americana. Wow, I'm surprised you just discovered The Convincer. I ran out and bought that one right away when I read about it back in the day. Thanks for the MJ and the new Sturgill recommendations.
Great video as per your usual. My new(ish) discovery is Zach Bryan's "American Heartbreak" and my rediscovery is Townes Van Zant and all his late 60's/early 70's albums up to and including his live album. Zach's album demands a whiskey and Townes demands either complete sobriety or being flat out drunk...both are FANTASTIC!
The difference between the U.S. & U.K. versions one is " countrified " and the other is a lead up to Revolver. I have felt for a long time that the 70's country infusion may have started, for some, from the U.S. Rubber Soul. Great vid Mazzy
George produced Day After Day, and the dropped out of the Straight Up album. Rundgren was brought in to complete. The death of Pete Ham coincides with the less enjoyable albums.
Great video Mazzy - always good to see Gruff show up on your videos. There were a couple of really good Americana albums that came out last year, by not particuarly well known musicians. Merce Lemon's "Watch me drive them dogs wild" and Allegra Krieger's "Art of the unseen infinity machine." For anyone interested in some recent albums. Mazzy, if you would/ could give a listen and review of a new "Americana" music by John Cowsill and Vickie Peterson. They have an album coming out in April but have released a fantastic single on RUclips. It's called " A Thousand Times".
Hi Massy!

Thanks for the tip on the Badfinger release. Just picked it up.
Thanks for hipping me to this Vera Sola lp! 3 songs in and Im sold
Mazzy, I would love to hear your rundown on Gregory Allen Isakov, a fabulous singer- songwriter in Colorado. He would fit in with this grouping
Thanks Mazzy - can’t wait for the Delines record next week
Willy Vlautin is a much underrated songwriter
Anything Willy puts out is an automatic buy! The Delines, Richmond Fontaine and his novels are all top notch.
I love the message and education you impart.Thank you

No problem. I said rifle. My mistake. 🤷🏻♂️🤠
@mazzysmusic Thanks, Im gonna take your recommendations and go listen to some of these albums. Rundoe loves you.

MJ Lenderman most reminds me of Car Seat Headrest from a few years ago.
I just ordered the Nick Lowe...what a perfect record for the upcoming Valentine's Day!

I know the Convincer as I bought the CD back in 2002. Just never knew it came out on vinyl a few years ago. 🤠
The Ringo album was tge first time that all four had appeared on the same record ince the break up. As we know not all four on the same song,
Sadness Sets Me Free is an absolute gem!
Thanks for the Vera Sola mention Mazzy, sampled a few tracks - sounds good!

Thanks for the heads up on the new Sturgill Simpson.
MJ Lenderman's vocal and guitar contributions to Waxahatchee's "Right Back To It" are perfect!

Great vid Mazzy
Will check out Vera Sola..I was disappointed in the new Ringo album..And T Bone’s production..interesting suggestions Mazzy..thank you👍❤️glen
Amanda Anne Platt and the Honeycutters are doing great, great Americana.
George produced Day After Day, and the dropped out of the Straight Up album. Rundgren was brought in to complete. The death of Pete Ham coincides with the less enjoyable albums.
At Target today, $39 for a new vinyl record. Living on Social Security, I can’t do that anymore. Thankfully cds are still affordable.
@@andrewt4042 i bought the Vera Sola record for $19. Not all records cost $40
@@mazzysmusicI have to journey to LA for better prices. In the desert, options are limited.
Great stuff, Mazzy! Why aren't you writing actual music reviews for some magazine or online service? That's your second act!
@@photogcw too lazy to write this stuff out and I don’t know enough flowery adjectives to describe the music 🤠🤷🏻♂️
Vera Sola sounds good on first listen. The drums mix is hurting my ears but she has huge potential. Thanks for the review.
OMG Mazzy ... Vera Sola is so much last year😃and now it will not make your list of best albums of 2024🥲But your right it is a damd good album.
@@anderssode-pedersen5817 yeah, it’s amazing you can listen and like records the year or years after they are released 😆😎🤠

Maybe if and when I listen to a physical album. I don’t showcase or review streaming 😎🤷🏻♂️
@mazzysmusic thanks, for your consideration.
