- In the fourth installment of Quest for the Best Subwoofer Edition, I feature the R-100SW by Klipsch. It's a ported 10" powered subwoofer. It's an excellent reference for ported subs! In this video, I have a fantastic conversation with Mark Casavant from Klipsch about ported subs and how they can be a formidable addition to your system!

Just ordered one today for my basement 2.1 system. Took advantage of Amazon Prime sale and paid $200, which is a steal, IMO.
Huge steal!!
I paired the Klipsch r-100sw with the fives, and they sound great. thanks for the great information.
No problem 😉
I have always been pleased with Klipsch product!
Audio Electronics same here!
Watching this video and listening through my own R100sw is very meta lol Great sub to be honest, very good for a low price!
Just ordered one, cant wait to hear it
It's very nice for the price!
I'm considering adding this subwoofer to my stereo which contains a pair of Dali Spektor 6s (floor standings with 2x6,5" drivers /pair). What do you think, will this 10" Klipsch be able to keep ut with them without distortion? I usually listen to music at high volume. The reason i'm not leaning towards the 12" version is the lack of space, however i'm still curious whether the 10" is powerful enough to deliver clean and strong bass without distortion at high volume.
Would it be good with a compact turntable setup ?
Is switching from 0 to 180 a bad idea while the Subwoofer is on while playing a bass heavy song?
Ahhhh yea
I’m one minute in and I’m already subscribed. You need more recognition dude. Quality content.
Awesome! Thank you 🙏
Would this be a good sub to pair with RP-600m’s? Thanks in advance.
Absolutely! It will provide that extra punch 👊 to complete the frequency range!
Audio reviewer guy opens up a package with a kukri. As a knifemaker, I approve.
Thank you good sir!
Using a Kukri to open anything inanimate is overkill. But it's an eye-catching weapon. Klipsch & their copper cones are visually distinctive, and very appealing musically.
Do I need to use a Y Split Tulp cable to connect the R-100SW to my Denon X1600H? Or should I just use the LFE port?
You can just run a subwoofer cable from your AVR sub out to the Red or White input on the subwoofer. If you are using this primarily for movies use LFE.
@@audioarkitekts I currently have them connect with a Y cable. You are telling me it's better to use a single cable and connect to the LFE?
@@MrArjanOskam its a mono signal so the Y cable isn't necessarily doing anything really. If you're watching movies, LFE is beneficial.
@@audioarkitekts No I've read it boosts the input signal.
So I'd be better off buying some simple RCA to RCA cable for optimal performance?
How do we setup the knobs behind the sub? I’m using this with the klipsch r-41m. What do I do with the phase button do I leave it at 0? Or 180, what about the other switch to the left ? Low pass someone told me to turn it all the way to LFE , do I leave gain at noon?
What did you find out? I want to pair this sub with R-51PMs.
I asked on Amazon if you need any receiver or amplifier in order to use this subwoofer with the Klipsch R-51PM. The answer was this: "The sub has to be connected to a receiver or amp in order to hear it! The r-51pm are bookshelf speakers which also need to be connected to a receiver or amp! Without it, you will hear, NOTHING!!!"
I asked Klipsch, they said I don't need a receiver for this. Can you please advise which is the correct answer ? Thank you.
Whoever answered that question has literally no idea what they are talking about lmfaoo.
I own the exact setup you are asking about. The r-51pm's are POWERED speakers. You simply plug them into your wall circuit for power, plug your audio source into them, and plug the r-100sw into the sub out from the 51pms. You DO NOT NEED AN AUDIO RECIEVER OR AMP for these speakers. You were given incorrect information. The person that said that mustve been confused and thought you were talking about the r-51m's which arent powered
Maybe they thought they were talking about the non powered version (i think called R51-M)... but the PM model is powered which means it has a build in amplifier, and aswell it includes a preamp for that "turtntable ready" experience!
PM models do not need amp, it’s built in.. so just add the sub. Done
Had this sub for 1 year going on 2 now. awesome sub for the money appreciate the content my brother
Natedog1738 i appreciate the love
I second that! I’ve had mine for around 3 years and it’s been amazing.
@@kylesmith9048 what DB volume do you set yours on your Av receiver?
@@Lowkey_nxthxn Sorry for late response, I forgot, I’ll have to check when I’m back in town!
@@kylesmith9048 no worries appreciate the reply back, keep in touch with me and let me know what db you keep your’s at I she’ll see the comment when you get back to town thanks again 🙏🏼
Oh Mike. Excellent production once again. A little jealous but mostly proud for your work. And yes this content is pure fire. ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔊🔊🔊
HEAR DIFFERENT thank you my friend
Love the kukri!! Funny i just used my cold steel scout to open packaging today also, little overkill lol!!
It’s always fun to play with different types of unboxing tools 😂
Yes it's an expensive past time lol!!
do u think the r100sw would sound ok with a Denon 50.3 and a pair of b&w 683s? I might by one tomorrow
6:00 I'm confused. The captions say R10SWA but the video title is R100SW? These are different models.
Do you think this Klipsch Sub will be good to pair with the Kanto YU Powered Speakers?
I just picked one up yesterday from Best Buy for $200 👍
Great video. What's the recommended distance that the back of the sub should be to a wall... more or less?
All depends on the room, might have to do the subwoofer crawl and see how it all works out
Can this subwoofer be hooked up with a powered party speaker? ( I have a ION total prime speaker). The reason I ask is because I like to have more base in the parties I have and throw at my house
Great video Mike! I have really enjoyed my R-100-SW's.
Hi-Fi Haven thank you! I really liked it, great sub!
I just purchased a Cinema 600 series soundbar from Klipsch. The sub is not ported... You say it's much better, so I'm not sure why. However, i just added the R 12sw ported in order to run dual subs. Huge difference in bass output. What i do notice is distortion on the main 600 wireless sub is higher, and it works harder than the R sw12 to achieve the same bass output. Knowing what i know now, the 600 series sub should have been ported. Sounds great for the money, value is fantastic, just should have ported it.
It’s not that ported is better or worse, I actually did a video on the subject. However if you want to get louder with less distortion the cinema 600 has a sub out which is a great feature because you can then add any sub you like 👍🏻
A bit confused - my receiver has only one RCA output for the sub, this su has 2 inputs - L and R. So I need a Y ended RCA cable? Or what?
Thanks, bit of a novice in subs.
No, you just connect the rca cable from your receiver to the white input which should read L/Lfa.
Great video production! I own one of these. Amazing output for it size.
Thank you! It’s a great unit!
I don't understand how to output from this subwoofer. If I have a RCA equipment for output, the RCA should go to the input RCA of the subwoofer, then output to the stereo device, I see the input RCA but how to you get the output?
you need a sub out from your avr or powered speakers to go into the sub.
Anyone else stop & block when they pulled the knife out?
nice video, good job!
Thanks Leo, it's an old one, but I still stand behind the review! Thank you for the support!
I'm new to home audio pretty much and looking to go with Klipsch. I'm looking for 2 subwoofers for a room 17feet by 10feet. Would 2 of these give me great performance? or I was also maybe thinking about 2 of the Klipsch R12SW instead. My main use would be for movies and gaming and tad bit of music if that helps any. I really like to feel the bass with explosions etc.
I would go with the 12’s since it’s a bigger room and you want that nice deep bass. However SVS also makes some really nice subs like the SB1000PRO and the PB1000PRO I would look into those as well!
@@audioarkitekts Thanks for the quick reply. I will def look into those as well as trying to do as much research as I can before I pull the trigger.
That’s the best way to do it. The Starke Sound SW12 is also a really good buy and I think it’s in sale at the moment!
Live in apartment, still about to buy this
I have ran 2 15's in an apartment. I'm sure you'll be fine 🙂
@@audioarkitekts Thanks!!
@@audioarkitekts Bought it and currently enjoying it since last night. No complaints yet :) I use EVA mats under it so the wave doesn't travel through the building structure
I need a Subwoofer Sound Dampening Pad or use foam and place it underneath Subwoofer because it rattles my Walls and I know it’ll travel up to the 2nd floor easily
Hi ive got the r100sw sub plugged into r51pm speakers. What would i set gain and crossover to? Thanks
I have the same setup, do you need to have a Y cable rca out to rca for it?? I plugged in a sinfle rca sub cable from the sub out on the 51pms to the white rca line in on the 100sw and its getting signal but not NEAR what it should be. Im wondering do i have to have a y cable that plugs from the sub out on the 51's into BOTH the red AND the white input on the 100sw?
Did you figure it out? I have r51pm & want this sub
Do any of the Klipsch subs have a polarity switch so you can 180 the polarity? I have a polk audio sub PSW108 (pawn shop $40) I rebuilt the amp and got a 10 inch Klipsch sub off ebay for 30 bucks. $80 sub with the inverting polarity option. I also sold the polk sub on ebay for 20 bucks so $60 sub.
Yes, this model has a polarity switch. Sorry noone responded to you in 3 months LOL
@@CeeStyleDj That's how Klipsch works, they get back to you in about 3 months.
@@ranbymonkeys2384 LOL but Klipsch didn't make the video.
@@CeeStyleDj If you watch the video he has a guy on from Klipsch LOL.
@@ranbymonkeys2384 I know. But the Klipsch rep guy is not going to come back to this guy's video and answer people's questions. But I agree, pretty much all audio companies are slow to respond to emails. Yamaha wasn't too bad as I recall. Klipsch did take like a month now that I remember! Lol
This video answered my question awesome. thanks you got a new subscriber i will be buying a second Klipsch R-100SW
Nice! Its an awesome subwoofer!
In the video you show 10 in the captions but the 10 and the 100 are two different models, the R-Sw100 being the newer.
Dali e9f or Klipsh r100 to match dali speakers?
What one did you get? I have dali speakers and want a sub
Mark really imbedded a curiosity in me. I was on the edge..should i get a sub?! I never felt the pump of a subwoofer, so to speak
This is a great place to start 🙌
i have the klipsch r-10sw subwoofer but also i just purchased klipsch r-100sw subwoofer on black friday deal $200

Guys, I did the worst mistake of my life. 12 years ago I bought the Logitech Z-5500. The quality of that system for a PC is literally unmatched. I bought them 320€ and as I said, did the mistake after 12 years to sell them for 400€. I enjoyed the system for 15 years and sold it with profit. BUT, I still cry for the mistake I did to sell it. Now, since I don't know much, if I buy a subwoofer only, will it be able to play sound normally on my PC without speakers? Sorry for the novice questions. Thanks in advance!
I'm sorry you sold your favorite speakers. Unfortunately, you need a pair of powered speakers with a subwoofer output to run all three to get the best sound. The subwoofer will only reproduce the low-end frequency.
Looks like a nice subwoofer.
FYI. You text is incorrect is says R-10SW not 100. Great video otherwise
Noticed this as well and was confused as they are different subwoofers with a substantial price difference.
FYI, YOUR spelling is incorrect...😁
@@americanbuffalo7802 not so much just the price, but its the 12" woofer...not the 10"... LOL

That’s not a dagger. That’t Khukuri (Kukri), a legendary Nepalese knife wielded by the Gurkhas.
I just used it to open a pair of Aperion Concert Towers ;)
@@audioarkitekts The rule is that once Khukuri comes out of its sheath, it must taste blood. 🤨
@ 3:41.. during the product overview, what mic are you using?? Because, its so sensitive I can hear your tongue clicking with your teeth and spit while your talking... and thays through my phone speakers!... its so sensitive, its almost distracting.. Lol
That was a long time ago. Things have improved since then. Lol
So the Klipch employee would recommend the most expensive model (SPL-150), and not only one but 2 or rather 4? Riiight....
Funny as hell.
Two subs is optimal for dispersion. Doesn’t matter the sub. Everyone except you knows that. Also the spl 150 isn’t their flag ship. You were wrong twice.
Keep in mind Klipsch takes about a month to loosen up and break in little they are stiff from the factory. Well, drop klipsch an email and when they get back to you it will be well broken in at that point, two months to answer an email, rediculous.
they answer me same day.
@@carlos_al With an email that says they will be getting back with you soon?
