I had the same build up which I don't like looking at and removed it with Invisible Glass cleaner. My spray head leaked the first time I used it. Because of the build up and leaky spray head I returned it and did not replace it. The water shedding was not any better than other products. I give it a thumbs down.
Bought this from local WalMart. Used it twice to be sure. I've recommended to WalMart they should remove it from all stores. Hard to use. Hard to apply. The regular yellow bottle is much better, IMO.
I wouldn’t waste my time or money, not now after what I seen after the wipers made a complete mess of the window!!! Thanks Brian, you just saved me more money again!!!
Brian, I appreciate you taking the time to test and review so many detail products. It allows us to make better choices, when it comes to buying those products. I've used the original Rain-X in the past and it has always worked well. This product appears to work the same, or slightly better. Keep up the great work.
Gtechniq G5. I rarely have glowing recommendations for protection products because I'm usually disappointed. But this stuff lasted me 9 months through 40in of rain accumulation on a daily driver. A bottle ~$20 and is gives 10-12 coats on all windows, will last several years. Seriously good performance and value.
I used this stuff, extreamly disapointed. It went on streak free just fine, but after a few rain showers the whipers create two strange lines were it stops. I'll be sticking with the OG rain X.
I have found the need to thoroughly cleans and polish the windshield to get any product like this to actually work as it should. I tried just cleaning and claying, but that wasn’t enough.
Yup I had the same issue with it when i applied it very disappointed will stick with the original or some of the other car pro products works much better…
Reminds me of the Armor All Ceramic glass cleaner. Tried that once and threw it away. Wipe off was a mess, it caused wiper chatter, and it got pushed around by the wipers on the windshield just like is shown here. It also seemed to make the window fog on the outside more than normal. I tested it in the bathroom on the mirror and confirmed that to be the case. Into the garbage it went. At least it wasn't expensive.
You're right about "The build up Line" that these types of glass cleaners leave. I think products like Invisible glass or even just simple Waterless car wash sprays are best for windows.
Yep yep. I’m getting some wiper ghosting lately. Best to just polish the windshield with CarPro Essence then spray something slick on it the next morning. So many options.
I too applied this product after similar prep. I saw the same buildup at the stopping point of the wipers. In central texas, during the "winter," it was only useful for shedding water on side and rear windows during the many rinses due to our heavy pollen season. I got it because I work in a retail parts store and got it cheap. I'd never seriously recommend it, but I also wouldn't warn anyone against it. Thanks for validating my methods and feelings on this product.
One product that is marketed for a simple quick install which I have used is Gyeon Quick View. With the good prep, it is a simple install and seems to last a couple of months. They don't make any wild claims. Actually it's time for another application. Thank you for the great video.
The best way I like to use rain-x is once I've done a car wash if the windshield doesn't bead anymore I would just spray the entire windshield & use the wiper blades to remove the product then dry with micro-fiber getting product on entire windshield I found this will make it easier to remove streaking. Another technique lets say on a rainy day you find it doesn't bead anymore - park away from the rain and spray a straight line above the wipers and it will spread and dry the product on pretty quickly - It might not last as long but it gets the job done when you are short on time to apply this product, my main goal is to avoid streaks just apply as needed. Great product overall & I don't need to have my wipers at maximum speed anymore.
I use a similar product from Griot with the same results. I find I just have to wipe the windshield once to remove the product line. I do like the clarity it gives my windshield, and enjoy it when not raining. But it works great on the rear window and side windows.
It's nice, but is it worth the overhead to carry a separate product when you can apply the same sealant for the paint, such as C2V3, and still get some good results? No need for an extra product to buy and time spent changing up product and towels... Just seems a better way to go and still leaves the up sell for a true ceramic coating.
Gosh I wish I had read these comments before I bought this instead of the regular Rain-X. I had the hardest time getting this streak-free on my windshield.
Hello Brian from Australia 🙃 I ordered 2 Glassparency windshield kits back in Jul 2020 and it's still working a treat with 1 maintenance treatment applied. Shipping cost $50.00 to get it here though..
I just bought some today instructions call for one Applicator to put it on and another towel microfiber to wipe off I see you using same towel . I had no problems with streaks it was very easy to put on and take off I wiped it around with the first applicator and then polished it off with another clean towel my windows came out shiny crispy clean now I’m waiting on rain in Oregon so it should come fast will see how it works.
The fact that there was a noticeable difference in color, and also the product buildup, makes me wonder whether it was buffed off sufficiently. I'm using Angelwax H2GO these days - judging by your video, I think H2GO is probably more hydrophobic.
Great video Brian (as usual), the build up from the wiper and added glare at night is why I don't use it on my windshield, however use it on all the other windows of my vehicle. Thanks again.
@@sjb3460 If you're using the original Rain X (yellow bottle), then your issue is how well you're buffing it off of your windshield after application. I had the same problem until someone showed me what buffing it off was supposed to look like. It takes quite a few 'clean side of the rag' (or paper towel) surfaces before you're done with a coat. I prefer the bottle without cleaner in it and I apply 2-4 coats on our windshields at a time (maybe twice a year in our dry west Texas weather) depending on how sore my arms are that day. 😂 I just bought this CeramiX variety today and I will NEVER do that again. I almost want to see if I can return it and get a bottle of the regular stuff because I cannot get this coating to buff out at all. I've been working on a rear passenger window for an hour and there's still a build up of product on it. I quit and came in to see if I was doing something wrong. 🤷♀️ Doesn't seem like I am, so I'm at a loss for this particular product. 'Stick to the original' is definitely my opinion.
Brian, only looking at your video, this product just works the same as the standard Rain X, except standard Rain X does not create a wiper line build up. I'll stick with the standard Rain X.
I find the new gen. Ceramic, on a brand new windshield, to be extremely disappointing, whereas 20 years ago on a fast XC trip from Colorado to Minnesota, a violent rainstorm was reducing my visibility to dangerous levels, and literally lifted my wipers off the glass on my old Subaru GL in the crosswinds. I finally spotted a Walmart, took the exit, and then thankfully found the original Rain-X bottle. I had to sit under a gas station awning to dry the glass, and then apply the solution, dried and buffed it, repeated. Back on the road, I was literally passing Semis at 75, the rain so hard it washed over the hood, but the water just blew off with the wipers just on intermittent. Since then, the only product as good was small spray can of No Touch, which even worked on wet glass, but I don't see it any more. It is hard to fathom why Rain-X changed for the worse, as the only minor peeve was the application process, yet many new far pricier "wonder products" are even more tedious, in line perhaps with the notion that the extra labor, and cost, for the DIY obsessive must equate with a superior result - which tests do NOT necessarily support.
The remaining residue is a huge issue, Ive used this product and had to stop due to the residue left all over the windshield after using the wipers. Its easy to clean off though with invisible glass...but the RainX does create quite a mess. For me not worth the time and effort. Switched to silicone wiper blades and no longer have any issues.
it happened to me too! residue like beads quite sticky! Had a hard time cleaning my newly washed car! I'm going to return this product as its a waste of money and time.
I believe this new Ceramic Rain-x is just the same old Rain-x. I have put it on my 2017 Escape and my old faithful 2005 Ford Taurus. I cleaned both windshields. Sprayed on the new Rain -x. It will not quit streaking. It Fog's up your glass and attracts dust. When it rains it's great! Same old Rain-x. Can not get glass clean. Must wear off. Don't waste your money. On the new Rain- x! I detail on the side. I would not put this product on a customer's vehicle. Shawn.
I think the use case of cleaner/repellent is the best for this, especially if you're caught mid rain (I remember seeing it can be used while raining where normal rain-x can't)
If you're looking for products to try for windshields and rain, I like to use the DSX defender II wax. It has been pretty effective for me in Florida with all the love bugs.
The new aeresol spray can of Rain X Water Repellant makes all previous versions of Rain X obsolete. So much more affordable, easier spray on wipe off done, and last 2-3months depending on your environment.
I think they missed the boat entirely with this one. Trying to enter the ceramic market is pretty futile and I'm really not a fan of ceramic coating the windscreen anyway to be honest. The Original Rain-X product works extremely well and there's no need to reinvent the wheel so to speak. No need to get fancy. Keep it simple Rain-X. You already have amazing product that can challenge and beat most ceramic coatings for a fraction of the price.
Do you ever detail glass with buffer polisher and cleaner wax; let dry and remove wax with a razor blade. Buff with terry cloth. Removes every embedded imperfection. Never seen it done but it's my trick.
I have that line on my windshield...i dont use a dedicated glass protection but i do use drying aids.. thats where the line comes from... obvious once you mention it
After cleaning glass with cleaner and then soapy water, it's been hell for me to remove the graphene residue. Never had this issue with any glass product. I'll stick to the old RainX
I had the same issue with the lines popping up from the wipers but was able to buff it out with a dry cloth fairly easily. I wish I’d stuck with the original.
Not available in U.K however armor all just joined the ceramic and graphene game in U.K. and the ceramic glass cleaner is available and ceramic leather , ceramic wheel cleaner and ceramic and graphene spray coating for paint
i use Griots Garage Glass Sealer, i get better results then was showed in this video. and it last pass 3 months easy.. up to 5 months on less driven cars. ;-)
I tried to use this stuff but there was something in the bottle, and the sprayer kept clogging up, so I ran it through a paint strainer and I pulled out a handful of what looked like wet toilet paper. I just threw it away
The real question is how much better is the fancy new stuff than the old regular cheap stuff? I can tell you that just going out with windex and old rainx (two steps) produces pretty much the exact results I saw you get with the new stuff and the 5 or 6 steps it took.
AquaPel lasts 6+ months on the windshield. Gtechniq G1 lasts a year+ on the windshield and forever on the rest of the glass. Can’t bring myself to try the rain x.
Call me crazy but I noticed VERY little difference from the treated and untreated side. I'd stick with regular old RainX if I had to choose. This stuff seems like garbage. You were WAAAY too nice putting it above average.
@@apexdetail85 that's fair of course. However from the video it looked like there was very little difference while you were driving and it was raining between the treated side and the untreated side. Combine that with the product building up on the side of the window and in the middle from the wipers, it's hard to understand how this would be rated above average when the repellency seemed unbelievably weak.
I'm going to stick with rainx purple in the winter and rainx orange in the summer and you don't have to do anything but push a button to re apply 😅 to much work for what it does and no one has time for that!!!
Hey Brian..I just wanted to let you know that you can experiment with my vehicles anytime your in the neighborhood lol..but really a great video..Thanks !
It's crap. Leaves a greasy film on windshield that is impossible to remove. I should have read the negative reviews on Amazon (there are a LOT of them) - all those reviews mention the lines left by the wipers at their turn-around point (from one direction to the other) and most also mention how the smeary mess causes very bad light-glare at night. Garbage. On a scale of 1-5 it's a 0. Amazon issued a refund for it - they don't want the product back.
This product is no good, I've been using Steel Wool 0000 to clean the glass, apply the RainX original, let it haze over, then wipe it off with a damp microfiber, then buff it off with a dry microfiber, way better results, and it lasts from about 6 months depending on weather conditions. An old school detailer showed me this trick years ago, been doing it ever since.
I picked up a bottle of it today and I'm not impressed. It was VERY streaky and difficult to remove. While I have not tested it in the rain I did pour a glass of water on it and saw no beading and it didn't appear to be very hydrophobic. I would not recommend it to anyone.
I'll stick with regular Rain-X. I've tried the yellow bottle Rain-X / cleaner. It didn't work as well as the straight Rain-X. In fact you can feel the difference in the glass the regular Rain-X / cleaner this doesn't work that well there's a definite difference you can feel the difference when touching the glass. Here in Arizona at last quite a while course it depends how often you wash your car
I am in West Central Florida/Tampa Bay Area. Just used the RAINX Ceramic-X on my windshield and after a couple days of Florida rain showers I have smears all across the entire windshield and that WIPER LINE on the driver side that is driving me crazy!! The line is smack in front of my eyes at an angle from bottom center to top left of windshield. I have used Vinegar solution, Denatured Alcohol, half dozen various window cleaners and even used the Rainx on the same area and can not get the junk off my windshield. I guess I will have to go get some soft polish cleaner to see if that works. Totally useless product in my opinion and on your chart it is THE DUMPSTER for me. . . 🤨🤔🥵
Back in the 80’s RainX was awesome but only lasted a week at best. You had to apply 10 coats to get two weeks protection. Looks like the formula is improved but still based on the original formula. Then again I did apply RainX to my racing helmet plastic part which went over my face and it did work. What product do you recommend to clean glass with once the glass is coated? Thank you for the video.
My first try in a Walmart parking lot is a disaster. What were the "magical" things you used to clean the windshield first or do you have a video on cleaning a windshield for real? Thanks for the information. (edit) PS: I think using it to clean the inside was my biggest mistake?
Thanks for conducting this test Brian. It maybe just my preference but I like the water repellency of the original Rain X. Too bad they don’t make a product that repels water like original Rain X for the painted surfaces of the car
@@ohboy2592 BTW, ceramic coatings seem to bead the water on the surface which eventually dries on the paint and leaves a residue. The only products that I found which repel water seem to be for a windshield, not the painted surface.
I used it and it was so hard to wipe off after I applied. And then the lines it's left made me go crazy had to stop in the rain and wipe them off. Not a fan of this stuff.
Good test Brian, stopped using Rain-X years ago, roughly same time i started using *AM Rain* {AMD Details}, haven't found anything to beat it yet, came close with Infinity Wax's *Diamond Vision* and Angel Wax's *H2GO* . Interesting fact, they are all Scottish detailing brands 👍😁 Flip-top lids work best on the products and do not clog, i apply with MF applicator and buff with glass towel or short weave MF cloth.
There were several products that were used to prep the windshield before applying the rain X product. He did not show us what those products were, and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Are use this product and it’s horrible.
Rain X Has been busy lately!! What do you think of their newest additions?
Rain x use to make a pretty good wash. I don’t remember if it was a wash and wax or not but I do remember it would really look great after rain.
They can keep that 1.ill still 2 ASP sheet it.😁😁

same here!!!!

My experience with Glass+ from IGL has been great.
11 months on a garage kept example. ~10,000 miles per year. Sees rain
I prefer installing a good sealant or coating as base layer. Then a product like this for maintenance and extending the life of my glass protection.

Brian, although you are my mentor online, I find that you do not do hardly any follow up reviews of products, as promised. Could you do more ?
Great video! 👍🏽
Doesn’t look any different than the untreated side. What’s the comparison to original?
Should we get a sample? Or we can see how it goes after your shower?
Do a review on the rain x waterless wash. Or comparison. Thx.
I picked up a bottle of it today and I'm not impressed. It was VERY streaky and difficult to remove. While I have not tested it in the rain I did pour a glass of water on it and saw no beading and it didn't appear to be very hydrophobic. I would not recommend it to anyone.
Thanks for sharing, Btw , did someone told you that you look alike Bruce Willis 👍👍
My 2013 Subaru legacy 3.6 R has the same mirror as your Nissan how funny how manufacturers Paul from the same parts bin!
I got this stuff and it was super gritty , is it supposed to be like that, it was a big mess
If I want RainX.. I will buy RainX..
Why does my own leave like a white dust residue or white beads after wiping? Is that normal? Or is the chemical bad already?
That wouldn’t be my cup of tea. Lines on the windshield would drive me up a wall. And I probably won’t like it either cause I live in PA
Looking good
I just used it on my truck and I can’t get the film off. I’ve wiped my damn windshield 10 times! Am I doing something wrong?
Awesome video and product review good friend. Let's hope shop Mgr doesn't find out ur driving not workn.we will keep that a secret lol
My first try in a Walmart parking lot is a disaster. What were the "magical" things you used to clean the windshield first or do you have a video on cleaning a windshield for real?
Thanks for the information.
(edit) PS: I think using it to clean the inside was my biggest mistake?
i use rainx washer fluid, seems pretty close to me with zero effort
Great vid!!👍🏻
Thanks for conducting this test Brian. It maybe just my preference but I like the water repellency of the original Rain X. Too bad they don’t make a product that repels water like original Rain X for the painted surfaces of the car
There’s hundreds of products that repel water for your paint.
@@ohboy2592 Name the top 3 best products that repel water on painted surfaces of your car, in your opinion
@@ohboy2592 BTW, ceramic coatings seem to bead the water on the surface which eventually dries on the paint and leaves a residue. The only products that I found which repel water seem to be for a windshield, not the painted surface.
@@pasqualepisani Adam’s does a really good job but you are correct, repelling water on horizontal surfaces is almost impossible.
Have you ever tried CSI Ceram-X Car Polish? It claims to be a one step polish product. Thank you.
Thank you for review. Seems about the same as Rain x.👍
Again for me, if I'm going through the prep work of cleaning, I'll probably use something more durable and not so "smudgey". Is that a word? Lol.
Understood. 🙂👍
There were several products that were used to prep the windshield before applying the rain X product. He did not show us what those products were, and I have no idea what you’re talking about. Are use this product and it’s horrible.
