      Can we use this pedal straight into a Clean channel of a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe V3 amp which is already set up for a super clean sound style???

      I own the this pedal also, I just love it. It has such an amazing range, I keep the drive pretty hight up and the level kind of low. Sounds great played through a clean blues jr ltd.

    That Phat setting took away the “ice pick” tone from the Strat bridge pickup! Nice!

    I own this pedal and love it. One thing I always look for is how well a pedal gives a singing, round, almost vocal sustaining single note on the neck pickup (I use humbuckers), and the Super Phat Mod does this wonderfully. Very musical pedal. Highly recommended.

    I got one. Best bluesy overdrive IMO. Really full range when it's on phat mode. Helps to get that Mayer sound. Goes from smoth drive to a great distortion or kinda. Great pedal.

    Great Pedal Shane ! I think its based on a Boss Blues Driver its great for a strat in positions 2 or 4 for that John Mayer sound.

    I think that pedal really helps the single coils on the Strat ! Keeley makes some great stuff for sure. Great demo mate as always ! ( That V really does sound killer !)

    I have this pedal and love it. Basically it is always on. I'm usually running a Tele or Strat into my Mesa Mark V 35. Let's me leave the amp setting alone. I use it to get a clean boost with the level up and gain down or lower the level a little and boost the gain for some grit. Also works well with my other pedals.

    Great review man! Love those tones!! Listening through my Jaybird ear buds, it kinda reminds me of a OCD pedal. Glad to see the MIM Strat getting some love! 🤙🏻😎🎸

    • @RobertKeeleyTV
      @RobertKeeleyTV 5 лет назад

      The OCD is full and flat like the SPM. It is a killer tone, very simple circuit in comparison, but none the less similar. I think the SPM cleans up extremely well and has a more woolly fuzz-tone than an OCD can get.

  • @binface9
    @binface9 5 лет назад +1

    The flat mode sounds way better in the mix than the Phat mode, showing that Boss made the right call when designing the BD-2 (also in including buffered bypass). Quality content as always, Shane.

    • @RobertKeeleyTV
      @RobertKeeleyTV 5 лет назад +2

      It makes the right kinda difference when you have a tele or thinner strat. That is where it should be used. Then it makes sense.

    Love strat style guitars with matching headstocks. Just like the old fender Mustangs. Such a great look. Great playing, sounds great! Also great amp! I've said it 1000x but I own the DSL100HR (100w head version) and love it. Out of all the amps I've owned in my 18 years of playing it's my favorite. So much fun to play with so many great tones. You've got the classic channel with clean and crunch which sounds great with a tube screamer or klon clone (I build my own) and you've got the ultra channel with od1 and od2. Od1 is like the crunch channel boosted by a tube screamer and od2 is like od1 boosted by a tube screamer. So if you don't have any pedals you can still get all those tones. Such a great fun amp to play through. The combo version has its own great tone aswell. They really matched the speaker well this time with the new CR version. Sounds great right out of the box, no upgrades or changes needed. I did put in a couple mullard cv4004 preamp tubes so it's JJECC83 in V1, Mullard CV4004(lowest gain of the ones i have), CV4004 in V3 (but the stock 12ax7b Shuguang sounds great herd also), and then the stock Shuguang 12ax7b in V4. Also o replaced the JJEL34's with Electro Harmonix El34's which helped tame a little fullness when using lots of gain. But sometimes I like to put a jjel34 and a EHel34 on each side of the power amp (So one of each on the push side, and one of each on the pull side so they match, DON'T DO THIS UNLESS EACH SIDE MATCHES, only mix power amp tubes if you know 100% what your doing or you'll just put too much strain on one tube and blow it among other things). But anyways with 2 JJ el34s and two EHel34's it gives it some more power and low end but without being too full and warm like it can get with just JJ'S. The stock tubes were absolutly fine but after a few months I had the v5 tube fail and it took out the HT fuse like it was supposed to. So at first I got a replacement set of JJEL34'S and they were ok but just a little too full (I use mainly high output pups so I can control the gain with my volume knob on my guitar) and high output pups with the really full higher wattage JJ'S wasn't as useable. That's where the Electro Harmonix tubes come in. They are lower wattage and still sound great so it really cleared things up. I Also tried a ton of different preamp tubes like tungsol 12ax7, sovtek 12ax7LPS, EH 12ax7, and the Mullard Cv4004's amount others. And I have to admit while they all sounded good they didn't sound better than the cheap stock low gain selected Shuguang 12ax7b's. And I've talked to other guys who own this amp who felt the same exact way when they rolled their tubes. These new DSL'S must have been. Designed around those preamp tubes or something cause they just sound the best. Another theory of mine is that they work as well as they do cause they are a little lower gain than other 12ax7's. The Dsl's already have a lot of gain in tap if you need it (they clean up excellent thpugh) so maybe I should try a preamp tube that it considerably less gain like a 12ay7/12at7. Similar tubes of the same type by different manufacturers vary in how much gain they have compared to their output but they all have a similar gain percentage. A 12ay7/12at7 on the other hand has significantly less gain. 12ax7's have a gain factor off 100% but 12ay7's or 12at7's (I forget which one) have a gain factor of 70% (and one of them is lower than that I believe). Anyways my point is I'll have to try some preanp tubes with different gain factors just for fun. But if my amps tubes never went out id be perfectly happy keeping them how they are now.

    Not bad Shane! Sounded good with all guitars, but with that LR, it sounded a lot more refined than the PRS!
    But, old mate, you might want to give that Strat neck a bit of a clean up! It looked really gunky! Looks like you've been playing it a lot!
