My Van Halen Playlist! • Van Halen
In this Women In Love guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this classic off of the Van Halen II album note-for-note.
The tuning is Eb. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.
The intro to "Women In Love" is a fan favorite. It contains a very challenging tapped harmonics sequence, followed by a gorgeous section incorporating picked arpeggios and natural harmonics.
For the tapping section, there is a delay that is creating some of the notes. However, the way I have chosen to teach it is as if you weren't using a delay and were simply just tapping every note you are hearing. It sounds great either way, but this way, you don't have to rely on the delay settings being perfect in order to get the part to sound like the original recording. It is just a few extra tapped notes anyway. :)
The intro section really is the star of the show for most guitarists, so a lot of the lesson will be dedicated to it.
When the full band kicks in, things get quite a bit easier. There are some great straightforward riffs throughout the song that are not very difficult to play. I will cover each riff in the order that each appeared on the original recording.
Eddie's solo is also one of his easiest. It contains a lot of trills though, so it is a great workout in getting those up to speed.
Have fun learning this incredible song from the great Van Halen.
Rest In Peace Eddie! We love you and always will! Carl...

Yes! A great way to start off our Van Halen tributhon! I’m so excited you decided to do this Carl! I’m gonna try to learn all of them 😈
Legend
thanks for always making this key jamison!!! its helps me so much
@@dzydzy101 glad to help!
Probably Eddie's most beautiful piece of music IMO. Here About it Later intro probably second. He would have gotten an "A" from a college music professor.
Hey Carl just read an old interview with Evh and he said he double tracked the guitar part for the intro to Women in Love. Which might explain the cool delay effect.
Eddies best stuff always reminded me of pure sunshine. The intro to Women In Love is a great example. It almost sounds like some music that would be created in the Caribbean. But Eddie was not there, he was surrounded by pure California sun. What a HUGE influence he was to my generation and I hope every generation to follow. This is the best lesson on RUclips for this song I have seen. Great job man.
Wow...OK ILL MARRY U ❤
Oh my stars, Carl Brown. You saved me. literally the greatest intro of all time. Cause I looked at songsterr and whoever made it just kinda had it wrong. I always come to you man.
That intro tho. Unreal. Eddie was so amazing. You nailed this one Carl.
Dreams or Summer Nights! Keep up the Van Halen
A lesson we all truly appreciate. The Loss of Eddie is still hurting within us, and I don't think the we won't stop hurting, but his legacy lives on for bring guitar to a level that no one ever imagined.
Eddie's solo from "Live Without a Net"
Whether you know the song or not, Carl's videos are always worth watching.
Especially when it's a song you know you can't play but you watch Carl nail it anyway
Carl is just the nicest coolest guy, an awesome guitarist and teacher... Just love the way he teaches...
And the Van Halen streak starts!
I have watched that intro over 20 times I'd say love well done carl
Can you do a lesson on Feel Your Love Tonight by Van Halen
I second this. That one's probably my favorite 🎸
I also would love to see this one!
Yes, this is a great suggestion!
@@Michael-ml4xq agreed, it is some of Eddie’s best work
Let's be honest. This one is a bit of a must do.
Eddie was such a legendary genius we're all going to miss the beauty in this music
"Judgment Day" and solo from "Live Without a Net".
Thank you Carl. Outstanding choice
As a 57 year old life long VH fan, I dont think it could have been played any better. Killed it.
I bet you can do “Cathedral” next
Thanks for posting the Van Halen lessons Carl. May his great work not be forgotten.
Little dreamer off Van Halen one
that intro was really fantastic
YES! This is amazing!
Dreams by Van Halen next. That song almost drove me to tears when I heard it after Eddie died. One of the greatest Van Halen songs ever made. Please Carl!! 😔😔
Thanks Carl we needed this in memory of eddie... we miss you
RIP the GOAT !!! Very solid lesson Carl, thanks !
"Cathedral." Because I want to learn it. And I want to see Carl play it.
Thank you Carl!
Great lesson Carl Love Van Halen as always! Rest In Peace Eddie
Hi Carl. Could you please do a lesson for "JUMP" with all the guitar parts in it? I really want to learn the whole song. Your previous lessons on the song are mostly the keyboard parts for the guitar.
I noticed this as well when I went to learn it. It's probably not too hard to figure out the missing guitar parts. But it would be cool to have a complete lesson.
Thank you Carl.
Hello again sir. If I may I'd like to request "Top of the World". Peace out. W
Thanks Carl! The Van Halen lessons are helping me grieve. I never met EVH but ever since I heard he passed I realized how much he inspired me and how much he changed the world. The stories you told about meeting Eddy definitely show how great a person he was. I’ve been listening to everything I can find on RUclips from live shows, interviews and lessons. I’ll have to put a lot of hours of practice to get this down. I can’t imagine learning this without your instructions. You must put a lot of time into them as well!
God I love how many Van Halen lessons this guy does
Each one of his songs is a happy place for us all, especially guitarists. It’s when we’re learning his tunes we tap into the best of our purest selves...
Good job. One his most difficult taping intros. What a genius he was. Thanks Carl.
Thanks Carl! Good thing you are making Van Halen’s songs. Rest in peace Eddie... :(
THANK YOU CARL BROWN! "In Heaven the frets never end" ...RIP EVH The Atomic Punk 🔨
Any VH lessons are awesome!!! Carl you rock brother!!!! EVH Marathon!!! Yessssssssss!!!!!!🤘😎👍🎸👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
Do Cathedral Carl! Or anything off the first album that u haven’t done
Yes he must
He did it!
More Van Halen great lesson
Carl you are the man! Loved the Eddie stories! Eddie was my inspiration on the Guitar. I started listening to them back in 1980. Coincidentally, about a month and a half ago I started listening to the first 6 albums over and over again. Thanks to your lessons I have been playing a lot of his stuff and loving it.
I know you asked for requests so how about these:
Take your Whiskey Home
Where Have All the Good Times Gone
"Top of the World", "Live Without a Net" solo. Pleeeeeeeease! x
thanks for this carl!
Yes, yes yes!!!!! This is going to be an amazing few weeks!!!!!
Excellent!
THANK YOU CARL
Carl you have no way how much we appreciate you💚thank you for paying attention to our requests
Another fantastic lesson. Thanks, brother. Eddie will always be king.
I'm so glad you did this lesson I was gonna ask
I think what makes even more sad for me was that I was learning Van Halens 316 from Carl on the day of eddies death, I didn’t know about his death until I had finished my shift at work when my best friend told me, I was in shock and awe and I shed a tear but it still hadn’t quite hit me. The next day was the toughest where I just began to cry, especially listening to Dreams which is my favourite song by them. The day after eddies death I learnt 316 and did a cover of it and put it on Facebook as a tribute to Eddie. Thank you Carl for being the best guitar teacher out there! I’m looking forward to more van halen lessons.
Congrats on your 1mill subs! You rock 🎸
Anything off of the first two VH albums are fantastic. Hoping the entire first album gets completed at some point. Thank you for getting the courage to do this so Eddie lives on. Much respect.
Feel your love tonight, im the one, atomic punk!
Great New Video Remembering Eddie!
Wow, one of my absolute favourite
Carl thx for honering the quintessential guitar God that changed the very scope of guitar playing. . .🎶👍
An amazing lesson to go with an amazing song can’t wait learn it
thnx for dis one. The best intro of any Van Halen song for sure.
Honestly any Van Halen lesson would be amazing. Keep up the great work!
How about D.O.A? Love that song
Quality, just quality - thanks for sharing!
Losing Eddie has been brutal, he touched so many people that never got to meet him with his amazing playing, huge smile and just flat out cooler than cool vibe he had, hope you are well Carl this one hurt a lot and thanks as always, like he said keep playing don't ever stop playing.....
Thank you!!!!🙏🏼
Atomic Punk or I'm the One, please :)
Atomic punk would be awesome!
Yes please!
There is a really good lesson on atomic punk by yourguitarsage. I love Carl but there is a good one from that other guy
👍 YES
You're awesome Carl. Thank you for all of the Van Halen lessons, and honoring the king!
Love walks in, would be pretty cool. Great lesson!
Youre the best!!!!!!
Atomic Punk and Dreams next!
Thanks so much for the marathon Carl:) were all running with you and his legacy!:)
I feel your emotion far away here in Brazil. Top job as always. Rip evh
I remember listening to this song for the first time as a 13 year old, in my Sony walkman headphones in the 80s, and it was so intriguing as there are so many intricacies in this song. There are so many music layers in this (and every) VH song. Ed truly was a master songwriter. Carl does this song, and Eddie proud.
I remember having to rewind the cassette tape a million times to learn riffs. You guys now have it easy. ; )-
Some of us had to pick up the needle on the record and keep bouncing it back! Damn kids today! (raises fist at the sky, lol)
Still hard to believe he's gone. Great lesson. Very heartfelt. Thank you.
Those triads show up everywhere and Carl has lessons on those in his academy. Helping me tremendously!
In my top 5 favorite Van Halen songs. Great intro and I love the vocal harmonies.
Thank you Carl !!.....Next 'ON FIRE' Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!
I've never known how to tap harmonics before, watching your lesson is enlightening into the genius of EVH
Remember coming to this channel in 2012 when I was 13 just starting out on guitar too and started listening to Van Halen too and learned Panama from you. Nice to see you still doing it. Panama was the first song I learned on guitar from you so thank you brotha
Carl! Thank you for this one. Awesome song!
Hey Carl! Thank you for finding the strength to get up there and make your videos (this one and the one where you talk about your memories of Eddie). Truly makes this a bit less rough on all of us, and the best thing to do to remember Eddie... is to play! I'm grateful that I found your channel a few years ago, to this day it's still a blessing.
For an EVH request I'd say... how about Atomic Punk? Thank you!
Thank you for that Carl. I’ve been brushing up on Van Halen the last few months during the pandemic watching your videos. This is a great choice of song. Thank you 🙏
Dude! I was gonna request this one of my favorites! RIP to the man who inspired me years before I ever picked up a guitar
Can you make Top Of The World please 🙏 Really nice lesson!
Carl, I am so glad I searched this out on RUclips. I've been playing guitar since 1979, and I still suck to this day. But, thank you SO MUCH, for confirming one of the only EVH songs that I ever got right (even without a delay pedal) in 1986, BTW!. I showed it to a guy that was so much further ahead of my skills, and he looked at me as if I was some kind of alien. Of course, he picked it up after about three times of me showing him. That really pissed me off!! GREAT LESSON, my friend! You are a great teacher! God Bless and Godspeed...
Can you PLEASE do "Top of the World"? I want to learn it correctly, Please.
I second this! Awesome song!
Awesome lesson man!
let me just say this is my favorite Van Halen song of all time I'm and there is absolutely no way I will ever learn how to play it.... It is phenomenal. So I will just listen to it and weep. My heart will hurt but my ears will be glad.
'ON FIRE " Please !!
The perfect song Carl... Eddie !
Eddie Van Halen meant so much to me I was a young kid when he 1st came out he blew me away with his guitar! So glad your doing these lessons 🎸🎶🙏
Almost two years on and Eddie's absence is still so much bigger than most guitar players presence. Thank you so much for this brilliant lesson. You're helping a lot of wounded EVH disciples finding a positive distraction. You're the goods.
Really jonesing for "Poundcake" and "Judgment Day".
yes poundcake!
The two finger tapping bit on Judgement Day is jaw dropping to this day.
no van hagar
DOA by Van Halen Please!!
That intro is gold, especially the picking.
This is a true demonstration as to why he was the very best. I started watching and learning then just had to quit. It's simply too much for me. He has always had my highest respect and I also can appreciate the talent of anyone who can play this. Well done !
Been dying for a good lesson on Girl Gone Bad by them.. I’d love to see it!
Thx as always!
Im 57 , VH was my 1st concert , 1984 tour my sister took me and a friend of course we had snuck and took a hit of acid lol but was one of the great experiences of my life because it started me on a road to playing which i still do , just purchased a MIJ EVH , what a awesosome musician and person, weve lost the best but his legacy will never die
Carl, can you please do a lesson on Everybody Wants Some!!, for the marathon.
R.I.P Eddie
This man is an angel! Teaches us so damn good yet very fast
wow this is great! thank you.
This is my favorite #1 song. Being able to learn to play it means a lot. Thank you.
