Same here. I had no idea! But that could explain why my first projects struggled. That and thread quality, too. I learned so much in less than 10 minutes!
This is a beautiful machine. My last sewing machine was a Singer Touch Tonic 2010 (purchased in 1982). It had the easiest bobbin winding ever and I don’t understand why Singer changed that feature. It was brilliant. If you ran out of bobbin thread, no problem! The bobbin just stayed in its place (under the needle) and you just press a button.
I also have not sewn in some years and was using an older 1940's model, that broke on me and so I gave up. My husband surprised me with this new machine, so now I am back to learning all about threading the new machine, and it is a bit frustrating for me cause I have ADD, plus I have the beginning of cataracts as well, so my vison is a bit off , so trying to stay calm and try and see how to thread this machine, and have save this video to get back to learn this later. I learn by watching things shown to me, [ have always been this way ] so very happy for the videos to help me learn. Thank you so much, appreciated.
Wonderful presentation !!!! I was so happy to find this video as the booklet was no help. After being shown how to use such a lovely machine I will be on my way thank you
I recently purchased this machine and was extremely frustrated when trying to thread it. I couldn't get it to sew correctly. I now understand between this video and another that the pressure foot must be up when threading to "seat" the thread correctly in the upper discs. After doing that, it sews fine. Thank you! I was ready to return it.
Great video! Even 3 years later, I picked up a trick or two. I’m not new to sewing but I am new to Singer machines. I’m used to Brothers drop in bobbins and picking up the thread was giving me a headache. All the directions I’ve seen said to turn the hand wheel and that just never worked for me, not right away anyway, but your needle down/up method was a game changer. Never even crossed my mind to try that before storing in the closet and buying another Brother lol 😂 the things we do for convenience! I miss the thread cutter that my Brother didn’t have so I dragged it back out to give it another go! Thanks again for such a great tutorial! ❤😊
Merci ! I just found the trouble thanks to your video. The scissor button was causing the bobbin thread gets tangled, once I watched your video and use the size cut, did work very well. So grateful for this video
Hi maria.. I just bought this machine and I'm self-teaching myself how to sew.. I'm lost with what kind/size of thread to buy for this machine.. Can you help me?
Thank you!! I was going to sew a pair of curtains with my mom's sewing machine but I had no idea on how it worked. This has helped me so much and I learned new things that my mom doesn't even know herself! Thank you again for making this video! I'm very thankful. ❤
Hi.. I just bought this machine myself and I'm lost as to what type/size of thread to purchase.. can you help me? I'm a newbie to this sewing thing.. Thank you.
Lourdes DeJesus Hi, so I’m pretty new too, I do like little projects like hemming or little repairs and am working towards bigger projects. For right now I am using Coats XP All Purpose thread kit 50 Spool Box Assorted www.amazon.com/dp/B00275YTH6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_MX0XEbPWWTEFR From amazon. It has pretty good reviews. I haven’t used it on any heavy duty material myself yet but it works well.
@@jass8748 Thank you so much..!! I truly appreciate your input. This tutorial stated the quality of the thread makes a big difference. I'll order the one you sent me for now until I get the hang of it.. I'll have to purchase a sewing book for dummies.. LOL.. Stay safe..
very simple but nessary except refreshing corse and very clear easy to understand showing clear what to do love love your tips have this machine love love it.
This is great to find! I am totally new to sewing, but my mother left one of these machines behind and I want to learn how to use it. I will subscribe, hopefully I pick up some good tricks!
I feel so embarrassed to be at this particular level because my mother tried to interest me as a teenager in sewing and I wanted no part. Thank you for being here at this time.
Thank you! I was a little rusty and this was a terrific tutorial! I need to use clear nylon thread on a flag. I practiced on regular fabric and the back side was loopy. Is there a trick to using nylon thread? Thanks!
I just got this machine for Christmas. This video is a good teacher. However, I do not the hook above the needle on my machine. I wonder if that is missing from my machine.
Hi, I have been using this machine for afew months and love it. Lately I am having an issue eher there is an extra loop of thread when I am stitching. Also there is puckering and the stictch is loose on the right side. What can I do. I have tried cleaning the bobbin area as per instructions. Please help.
I have watched many of your videos on the Singer Quantum 9960 and found them very helpful. I just bought that machine in July. But I am having a problem maybe you can help me with. I will be sewing along just find when its time to stop and adjust my seam. When I start up again the machine stitch has changed all by itself to #9. I haven't touched a thing. Of course, when I start sewing again it's in zigzag and it breaks my needle. I even broke a plastic presser foot once. It doesn't happen often but I've broken several needles. Any ideas?
Hello there, I have a question. I'm waiting on my new qs9960 machine. I do alot of sewing with my other machine, that I use the the bigger thread spool and I used a Cone threader, can I use that with this machine, because it threads differently from my other singer
Does this machine use the Bobbin class 15? I am trying to order extra bobbins and can't find what size to purchase....thanks for any help you can give me.....
This machine has given me issues with tension. I’ve tried everything to fix it. My bobbin thread still shows on top. Manual says it requires class 15 bobbins, and I’m using the correct ones. I’m also using good quality thread, tried new needles, tested using two pieces of cotton fabric. I tried going slow, fast and in between. Polyester thread was worse, it was splitting it. There’s noise when the bobbin holder is in, but not when I remove it. My manual says it does not need oiling, but is that supposed to help if I try it? I’ve cleaned it so lint or dust is not the problem.
Does the way you load the thread matter? It looks like it is loaded opposite of what the diagram shows (diagram looks like it should be unwinding from bottom whereas how you loaded it it is unwinding from top.
I am about to purchase a replacement for the needle threader and notice a small number 4 on it, the replacement I am trying to buy have either a 2 or a 3, will this make a difference? Does anyone know what these little numbers mean for the replacement part?
Sarah: I recently purchased this machine and the manual doesn't state whether the machine uses class 15 or 15J bobbins. Do you know the answer to this question? I'd really appreciate it. There isn't any information on the Singer website about this.
I have tried it twice and for some reason my machine doesn’t tell me when it’s done and it ends up binding underneath outside of the plastic bobbin. Please help !
Keep sewing....it will come up automatically! I had the same question, but it is normal to not be able to see the bobbin thread after the cutter snips!
I've got to say I apologize in advance but I've had 3 other machine and never had such a hard time this machine is not very well made like my other ones . I figured since it was newer and more expensive it would be better but I was mistaken.
I saw some bad reviews on this and it’s discontinued. Anyone had a bad experience with this? I also purchased this just now for $400...... wonder if I should cancel. I’m a beginner
I purchased this machine about 2 months ago. The needle keeps falling out no matter how tight I make the set screw. I am using genuine Singer sewing machine needles.
Try taking machine to local sewing machine repair shop. May be quite simple fix, if not, they can give estimate for repair. Should relieve frustration and not make issue worse. 😇
I've broken 3 bobbins in a row now just trying to wind this bobbin. Why are these made of plastic? Why is my machine not alerting me to STAAHHHP???? WTH Is going on with this machine? Ive been using it for 3 years and never had this problem before. What is going on here? I've tried switching thread types and brands. I don't understand why it's not prompting me to stop winding.
The instructor goes way too fast through the threading processes. I had to go back so many times through the steps to follow her. Slow it down a bit lady for those of us who have just bought one of these machines!
You can change the speed of your own video. Or pause as needed. Not everyone needs to go super slow! That’s why they have a speed feature on each video, u can set to your own needs. Hope that helps!
This was so incredibly detailed for my new 9920. There are no videos for my machine specifically, but this is the closest🎉
This is the first time I heard about putting thread vertical or horizontal based on how it was spun. Great tip.
Same here. I had no idea! But that could explain why my first projects struggled. That and thread quality, too. I learned so much in less than 10 minutes!
Really😊 Me too. She dropped a couple of jewels in this video.👍🏾

This was amazing!! I haven’t sewn in YEARS and forgot everything about threading a machine. Super easy to follow, thank you!!!
This is by far the best instructional video I’ve seen on the machine. The only way I could ever get this thing figured out. Thank you for making this
Thank you for making this video, it helped me to understand the auto threader.
This is THE BEST video! Thank you for making it.

Hi Maria my sewing machine 9960 is not pick up the thread underneath so anything wrong with it thanks.
Thank you!! I was going to sew a pair of curtains with my mom's sewing machine but I had no idea on how it worked. This has helped me so much and I learned new things that my mom doesn't even know herself! Thank you again for making this video! I'm very thankful. ❤

Are the class 15 bobbins the correct size for this machine?

Good quality thread: Can you give more info on the brand, etc?

What’s a good quality thread for this machine?
Does this machine use the Bobbin class 15? I am trying to order extra bobbins and can't find what size to purchase....thanks for any help you can give me.....
Bless you
Does this apply to the Singer C9920 I can’t seem to find a video for it but this machine looks the closest to my machine
This machine has given me issues with tension. I’ve tried everything to fix it. My bobbin thread still shows on top. Manual says it requires class 15 bobbins, and I’m using the correct ones. How do you set up your threading for Aurafill, can’t get it to come off the spool smoothly
Does the way you load the thread matter? It looks like it is loaded opposite of what the diagram shows (diagram looks like it should be unwinding from bottom whereas how you loaded it it is unwinding from top.

Is this considered a "good" machine? One that has metal gears and will last?
My automatic needle threader is broken. Can you tell me how to get a replacement?
Help which direction does the needle eye face. East and west or north and south?
Sarah: I recently purchased this machine and the manual doesn't state whether the machine uses class 15 or 15J bobbins. Do you know the answer to this question? I'd really appreciate it. There isn't any information on the Singer website about this.

I don’t have a little felt pad. What should I do?
I just bought this machine and I'm self-teaching myself how to sew.. I'm lost with what kind/size of thread to buy for this machine.. Can you help me?
Standard all purpose thread works well
I have tried it twice and for some reason my machine doesn’t tell me when it’s done and it ends up binding underneath outside of the plastic bobbin.
Please help !

The Bobin thread keeps breaking. How can I fix it ?

Thank you, Clair!

why can I not get by the threading. no matter what needle I use, the threader will not work. the singer 9960
Unplug foot and press yellow start and it will wind while you do something else.

These machines are fragile like eggshells. Breaking down after a few months, no replacing parts, no service.
HAHA I just found the trouble, the blade knife is unsharp
Ma machine indique problème de la bobine du fil et s'arrête
Needle threader wont grab the thread
Great but it’s so far so can’t see the video clearly
It doesn't come out tight and straight
