I recently purchased a big box of mica powders and have been using them to paint fishing lures. I also purchased a couple of different color-changing pigment powders like they use in automotive paints. I can't even begin to express how cool it is working with all these powders. I use an Iwata Eclipse airbrush and mix powders into Createx Transparent base to create the colors I want as I need it. I dip my lures in KBS Diamond coat clearcoat. The results are incredible. Now, I'm pretty new at this and can't offer much in the way of expertise, but I highly recommend to anyone that is into painting that you give the powders a try. I think you'll love them as much as I do.
Thanks for the video. This was really helpful. The mixer looks cool but shaking the bottles is my workout 💪. I need to practice switching arms or people will start asking uncomfortable questions 😅.
Perfect timing on this video..just got my first bottle of mica to try out tonight actually, and this was very helpful..that bottle shaker is awesome. Thanks
Just mixed up 5 different colors of Eye Candy pigments like you showed in the video Frank. I took some spoons and did a basecoat of white, then sectioned off the spoons and sprayed black, purple and moss green and left a strip of white on the spoon. I then sprayed the 5 different mixed colors onto the spoon. I'll use those as a reference going forward. Good information and thanks for showing me how to do this. There are some interesting and unique effects with these pigments! Oh, and I have that same 4-E's mixer and it's worth every penny and more. Good stuff as always Frank! Thanks again.
25 years ago I bought a whole set of powder pigments. I've always mixed the powders in my clear coats usually some 2 part urethane or lacquer clear. Along with that I used to mix my glitter thing with my clear codes also something no one seems to go over on these airbrushing sites. Can save yourself a lot of money on buying color-shifting paints which I find is kind of amusing. There's a lot of people out there that have been airbrushed in for a long time anyways you have a good Channel I've always enjoyed watching.
I’ll second you on the best investment one could make is in that sonic mixer. I got one off Amazon hoping I could restore some unopened FW inks that had separated and solid on the bottom. I was blown away at how fast and how thorough it’s blended the separated ink. Think I paid like $48 for mine off Amazon
You can also use cheap necklace beads from hobby lobby or Michael's that are heavy to put in paint bottles they work very well and don't have to worry about rusting
Love your vids, I want to learn about transparent paint for some of the ghost patterns you make, not much info out there about using clear sealer or 4004 transparent base, have you done a vid on these yet, would really help. Thanks.
Frank, have you tried any products from solar dust? I mainly use them in my clear coats, Green/Gold/Purple shifts, Grey/Blue/Purple, etc etc. They are amazing. I'm sure Eye Candy has something similar. Love the videos. Keep up the good work sir.
Hello Sir, I was wondering if you just Paint your Baits then lay your Color Shift Clear over it to get the Shift Change? I tried to mix the Pigments with Colors like Black and the Color Shift didn't really turn out well
The Colorshift usually works best over black, I layer and blend as I go depending on the pattern I’m trying to achieve, you really just have to experiment with the paints and your style of painting
@@customlurepainterah I see, I just noticed you switch guns while spraying these custom colors. I’m new to the airbrush lure scene and creating colors no one has is awesome. Thanks for sharing
I would think using UVLS would give you a hazy finish somewhat, its not gin clear! Pledge renew it, hardwood floor coating would be a good carrier for the colored pigment, it’s a good clear coating, plus it’s hard when dry so it protects before putting a clear coat on! I use it over the Spaz Stix Mirror to retain the shininess. Your right when one likes to experiment with this hobby it is a black hole for one’s money! But still cheap entertainment!
You can get those pearl powers and color powers at MF Mfg. their in Haltom City Texas, their in 2oz. Bottles they sell to the public they Mfg. every thing used to make soft plastic baits. I use all these powers

That powder would work good for my softbaits also.
Yes! You can mix it straight into the plastisol! Looks awesome!
Thank you
4Ez definitely helped my mixing, have you tried spraying kbs yet?
I have not, do you like spraying kbs
@Clarks Hill Custom Lures I've seen a few add xylene or KBS thinner for airbrush! It looks pretty damn good!
Thanks for the tip

What size airbrush needle you recommend to shoot these custom colors
I use .18 but it really depends on your experience on the airbrush

I bought 6mm ball bearings and found that they stickup in the nozzle. So, now I will have to go with 8 mm bearings.
How do you like the mixer I'm interested in one of those
One of the best things I have bought, you won’t go wrong.
how quick does that pigment settle in the bottom of the spray cup, or does it suspend in the UVLS
If your talking about airbrush cup, it shouldn’t settle that fast, I’m only using a small amount
Can i use ivls clear to paint with?
You can use as a medium, with candies, or paint.
How well does it spray?
Sprays well, if it sits it will go to bottom and have to be shaken well
Have you got a Facebook page or eBay page
No

I’ve done lures with pigment and UVLS comes out crystal clear
