The first time I heard that album I liked a couple songs but overall I wasn’t sure how I felt. I had to sit down and really listen to it before I realized it was because I wasn’t prepared for what Kendrick was trying to tell me. It really is an amazing body of work.

Mr Morale is severly overhated. It is a very important album for hip hop, he went to places of vulnerability few artists has ever gone, and in just 2 years we've already seen its influence with how much it inspired Tyler's Chromokopia

I felt after Morale (a masterpiece) that whatever he was gonna do was gonna be a break from what came before, stylistically & so on. Morale felt like the last of a four-piece set started by good kid maad city, TPAB and Damn. I had no idea he was gonna do _this,_ tho! He snatched the throne (which I already considered his), showed Aubrey and Jermaine for who they are AND took his sound _all the way_ West Coast 🥰😁 This is astonishing... but I knew he'd show everybody. One of the great years of any artist in HipHop (or otherwise) ever, with the beef, the Pop Out and everything after. I told people TDE wasn't going anywhere. Turns out Dot wasn't really going anywhere either... and now LA IS UP, running 2024, already one of the best years for the music and the culture since the '90s, with Dot, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Doechii, Tyler, Vince, Jason Martin/DJ Quik, and more. I grew up on HipHop from '89 to the early '00s, when everything became club bangers. I never thought the culture would be so vibrant again 🙂🙃🙂
This video makes me think of how Kendrick moves very similarly to Beyoncé in how private they both are but still psychotically passionate about their crafts while pushing themselves to constantly evolve and recreate themselves with each album trying to reach that Michael Jackson level. I would love if you made a video breaking down the synergies between them as artists and how they both serve as juxtapositions to the mediocre dominance of Drake and Taylor Swift. "Brian Eno and Talking Heads understood the magical power of African music, but instead of trying to clone it, they created their own style based on the hypnotic rhythm patterns of Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat" Fela Kuti is great by the way. Definitely check him out if you want good Nigerian afrobeat music. Angélique Kidjo also did a cover album of "Remain in Light"
I feel like every musician worth their salt eventually finds themselves infatuated with African musics at some point. The most apparent examples of this being David Byrne, Paul Simon, and assuredly many giants of Jazz. And for good reason! African styles are absolutely fascinating. The way they use guitars and percussion down there is enchanting.

If Kendrick ever drops anything that outdoes TPAB & GKMC, I will be incredibly impressed, because TPAB was his peak for me imo. He's made many hits since then and & enjoyable thought-provoking listens, but I haven't been creatively wowed since 2015.
Can’t be thriller. Thriller was a crowd pleaser, a frontier breaking production master class. He needs to assemble the best team of producers in the game and pump millions into it. Nah, we defiently getting something around the Super Bowl. There are ways too many hints, and way too many people in the know who are hinting at it as much as possible without confirming it. Kendrick means business, he seems to be working with a purpose and sense of urgency, and now that he has the top spot I think he plans to use it as much as he can to benefit the culture. This is way bigger than just him now, and he is fully aware of that. The way he has moved in the past year is something NO ONE could have predicted. He is on a truly legendary run. I just think we have to dismiss how he used to drop when on TDE. He is on a whole different wave now. I think its been happening ever since he started his own label, but the beef made us notice. He is moving like someone who has immense urgency and purpose, and the new Kendrick could literally drop whenever randomly, where the old Kendrick was far more predictable with releases.
