They also need to reload, leaving small pauses in their fire rate.

you can do well with acrid, even if behind, cause your main damage - poison - scales with mobs hp, rather than your items. All you have to do is run in circles and apply R and then just 1 kill while having some AOE item like gasoline.

I'd love to see a "masochist's guide to melee in Risk of Rain 2." To me, it seems unreasonable. I see that everyone says it's fun, but I'm not convinced they're not getting some sick pleasure from the agonizing pain. I tried mercenary, and just got frustrated with wisps, and pretty much just wisps alone. I haven't figured out how to effectively take them down, yet. I know the secondary can do a vertical slash that can help, but there's gotta be a more optimal solution to situations like that. Loader is the last survivor I have to unlock, and after unlocking her, I'd like to become decent with pretty much all of the survivors, but melee just seems so impossible. Would love to hear more about specifically playing melee and how people go about it, and how they get around the pain of just being unable to reach flying enemies half the time.
i have a question, i didnt see you mention that poison can critical strike? was that on purpose, or not? as crit poison does, well ya know, OVER 100 DAMAGE EVERY 3 TICKS IN THE EARLY STAGES OF THE GAME! which basically means... Ocular HUD kills bosses in about 0-10 secs, its very useful
As someone who plays this game medium casual. What the fuck man? How does one person dedicate themselves so completely to helping people get better at such a seemingly simple Alpha game? You are a LEGEND and should be getting paid by Hopoo for how instrumental you are at disseminating info about this game.
you go upward when you land a melee so you can do safe melee attacks late loop if you have high enough firing speed because you will hover at the top of the enemy
I do super enjoy playing him as a super brutal bos deleter by jumpin on them and whaling on them. But i find i struggle getting the health back to safely sustain it
Personally, I try to get fresh meat and sustain items to go melee and stay melee and jump out if things start looking hairy... like a tanky lifedraining build. I've not played enough to say if ranged is more successful, but I still think it has been fun to just stay amidst a huge group and just claw everything. It does turn out into mostly ranged after second and third loop though- and definetely don't even think about meleeing imp overlords. Even if you're flying above their head, just don't. Also you can hold both left click and right click simultaneously. The right click doesn't interrupt the melee combo.
We unlocked acrid for our group and started messing around. One guy found a Shrine of Order and popped it for shits and giggles. His items sucked, as you can very much guess. But on that same level we found a Focus Crystal Printer and then later we found a Guillotine printer... It was kinda stupid after that.
Single item I look for the most is bleed chance, actually. I find that being able to get 100% bleed makes it so much easier to deal with wisps especially
Jade Elephant is pretty much necessary to get any use out of melee acrid late game, but if you get it then he will SPIKE since you can more easily get those on-hit procs with meleespam and power crystals can finally get some use.
I prefer the default shift because the field can take out enemies with only 1 hp left and can deal good damage to weaker enemies. Additionally, it is better for simple mobility, which is VERY important to gather items in the whole run, especially in the beginning. The 6 second cooldown makes it so worth it for me over the 10 second cooldown of the alt. (That isn't to say that the alt isn't insanely fun and effective on weak swarms though)
Hey Woolie, How would you rank Acrid in a multiplayer setting? I know you said it doesnt really matter after first run and we know that. But we are try hards. I mean Engineer is gonna be incredible regardless from killing the 1hp poisoned mobs etc etc. What would you put together in a 3 or 4 man with Acrid included?
@@RealRustled anyone that hits rapidly and has good AoE, so Huntress, MUL-T, Artificer and Commando would all work well. Poison gets everything low and they finish em off
updated team comp vid? also is visions of heresy worth getting on the engineer since it affects the turrets as well? is it better or worse than the default turrets damage now that i think of it, any advice on getting huntress' 3 shot special attack on the current version of console since we're behind
I seen you mentioned something about being interested in Hades in one of your other videos. That game is pretty dang cool, I would love to see you make some videos on it I really like what you do.
If you manage to get a Brainstalks (red) drop, and have decent survivability, and even one item that can finish off a poisoned target, Acrid becomes a nigh-unstoppable mob clearing machine. Get a chain going and that Epidemic is rarely ever going to be on cooldown.
I think the visions of heresy is insane for acrid because the impact of the shards does like 1 damage but if you have a crowd of enemies on one-hit from the poison it will insta kill all of them
Found a crystal printer on stage 2 my first game as him and was downing every boss in 2-3 seconds with the 4-5 crystals I had. He is absolutely insane melee if you get the stuff for it. The poison aoe keeps shields so high. If you have aegis you will not die late game as long as you are fighting. At least not until it starts to only spawn bosses.
Also, Brainstalks with acrid easily bumps it up from a B to an A if you are acrid, since acrids R is one of the only in the game that doesnt just reset itself if you use it twice while active (like how you cant have 2 pylons out at loader at the same time with brainstalks, but with acrid you can hold the button down and use it multiple times to rack up huge damage) Also Question on acrid, if you are getting to the point in the game where melee is essentially suicide should i take strides instead (assuming that I have visions already)
All you need is a Hardlight afterburner and cooldown reduction. *AND THEN YOU JUST HOLD DOWN SHIFT TO LITERALLY JUMP EVERYWHERE AND ON EVERYONE* (use alternate jump to reduce need on cd reduc)
Using the tonic plus the shell thing and à transcendance actually makes Acrid’s melee viable, at least it did for me. I coucou of just tank up, press r and shift, then melee away as as wait for my abilities.
Brainstalks feels great with Visions. I just hope they fix the interaction with Bandolier (Only gives 1 stack and refreshes the cooldown, which would really hurt anyone running 2+ stacks of visions)
Why was Blight not even mentioned? Was it not out yet? People have their preferences between poison and blight but I think it is at least worth mentioning because it can actually kill enemies instead of leaving them at 1 hp.
Blight wasn't an option upon Acrid's initial release! I talk about Blight in-depth in my 1.0 best loadouts video, starting at 2:21: ruclips.net/video/u7Yaw5iZj2M/видео.html
Watched this video after unlocking playing through a run with Acrid. Found out about the sprint cancel on my own, which means even now, they haven't patched that, lol
I just want to add a comment on a completely different topic. Stick your mines on beetle guards to give yourself kamikazes. Might also be an interesting synergy with the default mines, give them a chance to prime before sending them into battle on beetle back. Niche combo, but no more niche than getting rejuv rack with n'kuhana's.
Could you please make a video on unlocking Rex's Dunked achievement and the mercenarys prismatic trial one, I know the trials change but I think itd be fun to see you do it again
When you get a dune Strider spawned finish the teleporter timer so there are no enemies spawning. Lure it close to one of the holes (The one in the open desert area is easier imo) Use your R against the side of the hole its close to. Then rush over and try to dunk it. Might need to redo the same step multiple times until its flung into the hole. For merc I can't give any advice though other than be mindful with your cooldowns, make a few runs to know which items you can find and prioritise topaz brooches at all costs. If the challenge lets you take the Preon go for it. Don't waste too much time on each map. Only collect the items which you don't have to backtrack a lot for and find the optimal crystals to destroy on your path to the teleporter. Also keep in mind the enemy spawns are always the same at the same time, depending on where you are on the map. It still took me multiple hours of actualy tries after I had worked out a route for me that seemed to work consistently.
Gotta say, I hope they hotfix that animation cancel out, the fact you need to crutch with it doesn't really tell me you really know he can be good with his melee, I do just find jumping in after sending out poisons getting some swipes off and jumping out or just keep jumping into bosses that you actually collide with to stay in the air with m1, you can use m2 and R WHILE swinging so it's just icing on the cake.
I wouldn't do it because of the 3 secs of doing nothing that comes with Strides. Leap is better for raw mobility, which is the only case where I'd take Strides
How would you recommend to use Loaders new shift? I feel like it’s a lot easier to get caught out by enemies as you stop moving on the first enemy hit. I love your content Woolie, keep it up :D
thanks for the kind words :) yea, the new shift is for people who want to play the "true" melee playstyle, so you can't really use it like the default.
Even in RoR1 I found doing melee range to be kinda ballsy and relied more on his range skills so in all honesty it feels like he never changed, with the exemption of his utility skill leaving a trail of acid as he moved faster vs a pool of acid as he leaps and smashes the ground.
I may if some radical changes come through but you can already get the info on which loadout I suggest and why in the Best Loadouts video(s) (for the current patch)
I'm not 100% sure but I'm like 90% sure, but I think leech seed is triggered by his poison as it's not an on hit effect, but rather just whenever you do damage

you can do well with acrid, even if behind, cause your main damage - poison - scales with mobs hp, rather than your items. All you have to do is run in circles and apply R and then just 1 kill while having some AOE item like gasoline.
Out of curiosity where is it said Acrid is a she? It doesn't say Acrid is a he anywhere either. I know it's not a big deal but these little things interest me a lot :>
not sure but i think people caught wind somehow that acrid is a she, was from ROR1 iirc, wiki states acrid is an "it", though i digress
What are you talking about? Acrid is gender non binary...
like i said, i never was sure until i checked, its been years & years since i played the classic
i can see this conversation derailing already so lets just end it here no?
I like sticky bombs because the slight delay gives the poison a chance to work, increasing the chances they'll finish the enemy off.
Poison is unaffected by crit, as it has no proc coefficient.
Can't wait for you to get 1M+ subs and still promise to read all comments :) nice vid as always tho and thanks!
But i find i struggle getting the health back to safely sustain it
Same. Did you figure out a method to deal with the health?
Personally, I try to get fresh meat and sustain items to go melee and stay melee and jump out if things start looking hairy... like a tanky lifedraining build.
I've not played enough to say if ranged is more successful, but I still think it has been fun to just stay amidst a huge group and just claw everything. It does turn out into mostly ranged after second and third loop though- and definetely don't even think about meleeing imp overlords. Even if you're flying above their head, just don't.
Also you can hold both left click and right click simultaneously. The right click doesn't interrupt the melee combo.
Interesting that you suggest a range build for arcid. When I played with my friends, we fed acrid focus crystals, other melee items and aoe items too
We unlocked acrid for our group and started messing around.
Thoughts on alt shift vs. the default one?
I prefer the default shift because the field can take out enemies with only 1 hp left and can deal good damage to weaker enemies. Additionally, it is better for simple mobility, which is VERY important to gather items in the whole run, especially in the beginning. The 6 second cooldown makes it so worth it for me over the 10 second cooldown of the alt.
(That isn't to say that the alt isn't insanely fun and effective on weak swarms though)
The alt is bigger and does more damage, but the original is better for items
Hey Woolie, How would you rank Acrid in a multiplayer setting? I know you said it doesnt really matter after first run and we know that. But we are try hards. I mean Engineer is gonna be incredible regardless from killing the 1hp poisoned mobs etc etc. What would you put together in a 3 or 4 man with Acrid included?
Seems like he would fit very well into MP
@@Woolie Well I mean which characters do you think he would benefit most by being with?
@@RealRustled anyone that hits rapidly and has good AoE, so Huntress, MUL-T, Artificer and Commando would all work well. Poison gets everything low and they finish em off
I noticed that red whip was NOT CANCELLING when I took damage from ENEMIES. It's not just fall damage as you said in a recent video.
Yeah, red whip is actually viable. Woolie is pepege
yep, I will fix this when I put out my item tierlist :)
Also, for Visions of Heresy, you don't have to use the full clip before it reloads. It just starts reloading the moment you stop using it.
(Though I don't see why not just pewpew the entire clip haha)
soo if you doing a run with the artifact that lets you choose your items.. what should be prioritized from white, green, red, yellow. would you say??
7:46 what he is saying lines up eerily well with the facecam it jumpscared me
updated team comp vid?
also is visions of heresy worth getting on the engineer since it affects the turrets as well? is it better or worse than the default turrets damage
now that i think of it, any advice on getting huntress' 3 shot special attack on the current version of console since we're behind
I seen you mentioned something about being interested in Hades in one of your other videos. That game is pretty dang cool, I would love to see you make some videos on it I really like what you do.
I may make some content on it in the near future :) right now, RoR2 is gonna keep me quite busy, tho
Also, Brainstalks with acrid easily bumps it up from a B to an A if you are acrid, since acrids R is one of the only in the game that doesnt just reset itself if you use it twice while active (like how you cant have 2 pylons out at loader at the same time with brainstalks, but with acrid you can hold the button down and use it multiple times to rack up huge damage)
Also Question on acrid, if you are getting to the point in the game where melee is essentially suicide should i take strides instead (assuming that I have visions already)
All you need is a Hardlight afterburner and cooldown reduction.
*AND THEN YOU JUST HOLD DOWN SHIFT TO LITERALLY JUMP EVERYWHERE AND ON EVERYONE*
(use alternate jump to reduce need on cd reduc)
Ayy, the caustic beast came back from the rain, this is gonna be awesome
Using the tonic plus the shell thing and à transcendance actually makes Acrid’s melee viable, at least it did for me. I coucou of just tank up, press r and shift, then melee away as as wait for my abilities.
thanks for the video really helped me +1 subscriber lol. Gonna try my best at melee doggo ill let you know how that goes if I see you on twitch.
nice video btw!
im wondering if you need to m1 to apply bleed and fire dmg or any skill can apply it?
Brainstalks feels great with Visions. I just hope they fix the interaction with Bandolier (Only gives 1 stack and refreshes the cooldown, which would really hurt anyone running 2+ stacks of visions)
What's visions?
Why was Blight not even mentioned? Was it not out yet? People have their preferences between poison and blight but I think it is at least worth mentioning because it can actually kill enemies instead of leaving them at 1 hp.
Blight wasn't an option upon Acrid's initial release!
I talk about Blight in-depth in my 1.0 best loadouts video, starting at 2:21: ruclips.net/video/u7Yaw5iZj2M/видео.html
@@Woolie Ah, thanks for clarifying!
Crazy how you weren't lying when you said you read all comments, you earned even more of my respect! ^_^
Watched this video after unlocking playing through a run with Acrid. Found out about the sprint cancel on my own, which means even now, they haven't patched that, lol
3:13 How do you cancel with 100 soldier syringes?
You should also point out that all his abilities exept M1 can be used while sprinting, even shift does not cancel your sprint
Cool vid btw
Could you revisit this? Maybe discuss the other ability’s, or at least what’s your opinion on blight
Can we get an update on this video?
I like the fact that every move you make the sfx is that of a real horse lol
I just want to add a comment on a completely different topic. Stick your mines on beetle guards to give yourself kamikazes. Might also be an interesting synergy with the default mines, give them a chance to prime before sending them into battle on beetle back. Niche combo, but no more niche than getting rejuv rack with n'kuhana's.
I think if they made the radius of the slime dot-trap area a bit bigger, then Acrid would be perfect.
@@gosucab944 Thanks man, I got Rex's done but now i'm working on merc, appreciate you
Gotta say, I hope they hotfix that animation cancel out, the fact you need to crutch with it doesn't really tell me you really know he can be good with his melee, I do just find jumping in after sending out poisons getting some swipes off and jumping out or just keep jumping into bosses that you actually collide with to stay in the air with m1, you can use m2 and R WHILE swinging so it's just icing on the cake.
So wait would the brittle crown be really good on him? I've been having decent luck.
poison wouldn't proc the item, if that's what you're thinkin. so brittle crown would be just as "uesful" (read: not very) on him as everyone else
@@Woolie Ahh, gotcha hey thank you for your time.
Great video as always. Btw guess what type of Bullets engineer turrets shoot when you pick that lunar item that makes you shoot lasers ^^
An item you always take, is 57 leaf clover.
Not because it is good, but because it looks adorable.
(But it is still very good.)
Woolie, how do you feel about taking Strides of Heresy on Acrid, replacing your damaging leap with the invis., move speed, and heal over time?
I wouldn't do it because of the 3 secs of doing nothing that comes with Strides. Leap is better for raw mobility, which is the only case where I'd take Strides
How would you recommend to use Loaders new shift? I feel like it’s a lot easier to get caught out by enemies as you stop moving on the first enemy hit. I love your content Woolie, keep it up :D
thanks for the kind words :)
yea, the new shift is for people who want to play the "true" melee playstyle, so you can't really use it like the default.
Even in RoR1 I found doing melee range to be kinda ballsy and relied more on his range skills so in all honesty it feels like he never changed, with the exemption of his utility skill leaving a trail of acid as he moved faster vs a pool of acid as he leaps and smashes the ground.
Hey, I play a lot with my friends and love melee/"suport" (because of poisn) characters, which one do you recommend?
@@martinmaboge3907 id Say Rex is a better support because of the debuffs
Hey Woolie I'm interested in risk of rain 2 and wondering if it's worth buying it?
it absolutely is!
@@Woolie Thanks for your response! I've heard this game was still in development and I wasn't sure to get it now or wait.
How do you unlock the alternate leap? I would ask on stream but I don’t get much free time. :(
poison enemies 1000 times
Will you eventually update your older guides to include the new abilities??
I may if some radical changes come through but you can already get the info on which loadout I suggest and why in the Best Loadouts video(s) (for the current patch)
How is loader a ranged character? 6:50
Would you suggest Jade elephant or the primordial cube on acrid?
When will the stubby tail be coming to console?
I need it to keep my sanity
ninjageese today
You can use secondary while sprinting by the way
I'm not 100% sure but I'm like 90% sure, but I think leech seed is triggered by his poison as it's not an on hit effect, but rather just whenever you do damage
Do you have a strong preference between his two utility skills?
Hay anyone else read the item vision of heresy talking about a being that was split in to 4 pieces? Here's some for shadowing I'm going to call right now that we will be getting the other two with in the next two updates and that the next character that will be unlocked by collecting all 4 at the same time and coinsadintly enough the next character unlock is two updates away. That of it will simply transform the character your using at the time and you can simply call it a extra character. My money is we get the M2 change next with the R being last.
Can we see an uncut run with acrid, post 1.0 update. Melee and ranged would be great. Or at the very least an item list for melee acrid? I would appreciate it a lot!
Do you have any inclination on when this will be to coming to console? I really want to play acrid
Acrid feels very good and a lot better than his ror1 version.
Just watched this because i
really like him. Didn’t think i‘d learn something new, but the M1 Cancel thing was absolutely worth it.
I like the Merc skin best. Commando rank 2, rex recolor is ok, the others are just kinda lame
best skin 100% goes to commando. also personally i dont really like visions of heresy on huntress because you mostly lose the lock on that she has which can be annoying when youre trying to manage everything in her kit
