I do the same thing with my Garmin Fenix 7, take off the bands and install it exactly like that. Better GPS, better battery, syncs with HRM, Power meters, etc... granted it might costa touch more ;)
Yes, you will need to have your phone paired with your device for the GPS signal, once you have planned and started your ride, you can pop your phone into flight mode and keep it safely in a pocket or bag! Can we use it on a motorcycle ? I really like the fact that you can see the differents streets, istead of simply te arrow... Like on the motorcycle, below a certain speed xe should see the streets and then only the big arrow...
