How to Strip Paint from Wooden Furniture

  • When I brought this old painted wooden dresser home from the Restore a couple of months ago I had NO idea what I would find underneath all that paint. I'm still SHOCKED by the grain I uncovered after removing the paint. I had to prep the dresser, apply stripper and removed all the paint before treating the entire piece of furniture with tung oil. I love how a thrifted treasure can be such a work of art with a little elbow grease!

I’m furniture painter, the only time I paint furniture like this is when the veneer is beyond repair. In some cases I go with the two tones and they come out beautifully. I use the same stripper and it’s best to leave overnight. Great video... refreshing indeed!

Omg you are a life saver! I HATE that literally almost every home for sale on the market, people thinking painting their old cabinets WHITE is OK. Like. If you have a good colored wood, DO NOT COVER THAT UP! Wood is so beautiful! You save me lots of time brainstorming when I decide on my new house. Plus all white in a home makes it look sterile and lab-like. Gross!!!

You're so right! After 'flirting' with chalk painted/'shabby chic'
      furniture makeovers for years,
I'm now the happy owner of a
      $15.00 Goodwill walnut bow
front dresser with claw feet that
needs just minor cleaning/polishing! Also, refinishing an
      antique mahogany drop leaf
      table with deep red/purple hues.
Beautiful table, but too "old-fashioned" for my good
      friend's liking so...Thank you!

Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

How did that end up working? I just read that they changed the formula sometime last year or so and it's nowhere near as good now. Sucks, because it seemed great and videos and articles from only a couple of years ago now recommended it so highly. When it was good though, based on most reviews I see now. Apparently it used to smell great and work well and now it stinks and doesn't work.

All of my pieces had been stained so dark (cherry, black) that you couldn't see the grain.
