How to Strip Paint from Wooden Furniture
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 1 авг 2024
- When I brought this old painted wooden dresser home from the Restore a couple of months ago I had NO idea what I would find underneath all that paint. I'm still SHOCKED by the grain I uncovered after removing the paint. I had to prep the dresser, apply stripper and removed all the paint before treating the entire piece of furniture with tung oil. I love how a thrifted treasure can be such a work of art with a little elbow grease!

So glad to see someone getting rid of the paint and letting that gorgeous wood shine!
I couldn't believe the grain underneath!
I’m furniture painter, the only time I paint furniture like this is when the veneer is beyond repair. In some cases I go with the two tones and they come out beautifully. I use the same stripper and it’s best to leave overnight. Great video... refreshing indeed!
Not hard? Try it on deck?
Yes!
I love it!!
finally! somebody went the right way and stripped paint instead of applying. so refreshing!
The right way? Some people have been living with a piece of wood furniture for decades and they’re ready for a change.
Beautiful piece under there too😊
Omg you are a life saver! I HATE that literally almost every home for sale on the market, people thinking painting their old cabinets WHITE is OK. Like. If you have a good colored wood, DO NOT COVER THAT UP! Wood is so beautiful! You save me lots of time brainstorming when I decide on my new house. Plus all white in a home makes it look sterile and lab-like. Gross!!!
It's utterly criminal that someone would paint over that veneer. Gorgeous. Thank you for this!
I know this is a year old but I was thinking the exact same thing, I know to each their own but man it should be a crime to cover such gorgeous wood.
Funny how everyone is painting their wood white at the moment. In 10 years after the hampton style is done everyone will be wondering who the hell painted all their beautiful wood.
You're so right! After 'flirting' with chalk painted/'shabby chic'
furniture makeovers for years,
I'm now the happy owner of a
$15.00 Goodwill walnut bow
front dresser with claw feet that
needs just minor cleaning/polishing! Also, refinishing an
antique mahogany drop leaf
table with deep red/purple hues.
Beautiful table, but too "old-fashioned" for my good
friend's liking so...Thank you!

I love some white painted wood furniture but there’s a time and a place for it for sure. Never quality wood furniture.
I'm wondering this right now. Lots of people are flipping historic, 100-year old houses and painting the old growth trim white, and I'm just like, save some for me if I can ever afford a house!
I love to paint furniture, but basically small pieces (frames, for instance: I can't stand to have different tones) to give a touch of color. But, full wardrobes or dining tables it's just tacky
@@Ratplague707 it makes me cry seeing people painting old Victorian homes like that
this looks like Brazilian Rosewood. Excellent finish, well done!
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
WOW! What an outstanding beautiful job!! This morning, I wanted to cry, after I'd begun to strip my dresser from its white chalk paint! "It's too much a huge job," I said. But 3 years ago, It was my own idea to paint them! I've changed my mind and want my wood-look back! You've given me hope!! Thanks!! I think I can do this...Let's hope. You made it seem so easy!!
Good luck!
This is so nice to see a redo of furniture brought back to its original state, especially such beautiful wood grain, the glass knobs add such class to the piece also, I don't know how anyone could have painted that dresser in the 1st place. CRAZY
Such beautiful wood. Why would anyone ever paint this in the first place. Love it!!!
fashion trends, over here (UK) we are fitting Matt black taps left right and centre, They will all be coming back out when the trend changes in a year or two.
@@marksmith5237 taps?
@@floridagirl9064 Sorry faucets are know as taps in the UK. Hope you are well.
@@marksmith5237 thankyou for replying! Much love ❌❤❌❤
That white paint makes it look so basic and same-y...the wood is what makes it stand apart!
So nice to see the new trend to strip off all the paint madness that has been going on for several years now. Not all wood furniture is beautiful, but this certainly is and I'm so happy to see that fantastic wood grain brought back to life. I would jump at the chance to have this in my home!
Agreed!
one of the best videos I have watched as a first time paint stripper.
THANK YOU
for acknowledging the beautiful wood!
Who in their right mind would cover up that beautiful wood??... It's absolutely beautiful, now it has been restored to it's former glory, well done on this project, you did a wonderful job, it looks stunning.
The wood is stunning!
Very rare to see a reverse paint job!! So wonderful to see furnitures true color being appreciated.
The dresser is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad you restored it back to it's original glory! You did a wonderful job!
This is one of the most satisfying paint stripping videos
Awesome! I have a great mid century dresser that I painted in my youth (stupid, young me), that I really want to bring back to life. This video was so helpful and I will definitely be getting that Mohawk drawer lubricant! Didn’t know that was a thing!
I want to see your dresser when done.
I love the fact that you kept it wood! I'm all for upcycling an old dresser, and do love watching those who paint and give new life to old furniture, but like others have mentioned, I also LOVE wood furniture. It looks beautiful!
This is beautiful! You did such an amazing job restoring it.
Thank you for putting in the time to restore that dresser properly. The book matched grain looks beautiful .
Holy smokes. This is stunning.
What a treasure under all that White paint
Thank you for refinishing to the natural wood. My favorite.
Thank you for this! I have a mid-century bedroom set with 3 layers of paint that I want to strip without the harsh chemicals from years ago. Brilliant.
What a pleasure to see you restore the finish on this lovely piece! I get frustrated seeing people paint (!!!) over gorgeous burled wood like this. Thank you for a refreshing new/old look for your dresser!
Wow. Beautiful. An heirloom piece.
Omg, You hit the jackpot! I would have been jumping for joy when I saw that wood grain!
Beautiful, simply beautiful. The graining is majestic.
Wow wow wow! What a transformation!!!
Thank you! What a quality video! I'm about to do this same thing and I'm nervous, but you made it all very clear and less intimidating. Thank you!
Good luck! It's not always this easy, but this is the general process!
I love the way that paint is coming off! Now to go get some CitriStrip!
How did that end up working? I just read that they changed the formula sometime last year or so and it's nowhere near as good now. Sucks, because it seemed great and videos and articles from only a couple of years ago now recommended it so highly. When it was good though, based on most reviews I see now. Apparently it used to smell great and work well and now it stinks and doesn't work.
the beauty of the natural grain, no cleaver painting can compete. x love it.
So beautiful!!!!! YOU DID SUCH A GOOD JOB!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful - I especially like the use of Tongue oil. My favorite finishing treatment.
Thank you Jesus! So wonderful to see that BEAUTIFUL WOOD! Thank you! Thank you!
What a gorgeous piece!
This is absolutely gorgeous
Bless the work you do. There’s too many people out here painting perfectly good wood furniture!
Thanks for giving this piece another life ❤️
That dresser is absolutely GORGEOUS!
Beautiful finished product!!! Inspiring for this 43 yr old man
I never did these types of projects till coming across these types of videos
I actually started getting into investing and being a obsessed type person I wanted to have a area at home I could sit learn and focus on investing into.what in.interested in and I found a free corner desk for my dining room my wife incurouged me to sand it and stain it turned out to come together very nice
And these videos with that desk has got me catching a diy bug !!! This.is good.for.me to.stay home save money stay busy sober and focused on positive things!!!
I appreciate the time you put into.your content thanks
I always feel that beautiful wood is a reminder of the great outdoors/nature in your home. Paint is only for the ugliest processed wood.
LOVE the results!!
We have a sad art-deco watching this, I'm confident we can bring it back to life. Will follow same steps. Thank you for sharing!
What an awesome find! Great job.
I too love to see the wood grain, and this piece is a prime example! Thanks for not repainting it, the tongue oil application is absolutely beautiful : D
THANK YOU for showing the end result first. It absolutely hooked me to see how you did it.
That is truly gorgeous! Wow!!
Wow. I can bring back my moms furniture back to life. Thanks for sharing this.
Also! The instant adhesive is amazing! The thin absorbs we’ll into wood and other porous surfaces. Then the activator to make it dry instantly. I definitely splurge on the glue.
Beautiful!
Thank you very much for your contribution! Thoroughly enjoyed that! x
This turned out beautifully! Great job. Tfs!
Turned out beautiful
Great straightforward video. Thank you!
Excellent job!
Whoa! Loved watching this video. Love refinishing Furniture too!
so cool!! beautiful wood!
This was great! I have never known what to do with the paste the remover and paint makes when stripped off. I thought since it eats through finishes it would eat through any container you put it in. Also, using the less toxic stripper and wearing a respirator if you need to work indoors is great information.
Oh my......I want it! It is Glorious!
Nice! That looks awesome!
Amazing! Great job. Thanks for posting. 👍
Beautiful piece! Totally worth the work. Great job!
Amazing!!! Love love love!!
I love it!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS
This piece is gorgeous! About to start my first wood painting projects an I'm a little nervous. It's good to know not everything will necessarily be perfect. It is a learning process.
This looks amazing !!
Beautiful job
Whoaaa! How lucky you got! The wood grain is absolutely stunning. You did a great job😍
It is so pretty!
That piece is incredible 👏
I bought a dresser that's painted white, it's solid so excited to see what's underneath, thanks for the tips. 😊
I always always sand the top of any furniture I'm working on. That determines whether I paint the piece or I let the glorious wood come through. I've restored a bird's eye maple dresser, a gorgeous British Walnut cabinet and an antique Tiger Wood humidor cabinet. All of my pieces had been stained so dark (cherry, black) that you couldn't see the grain.
Smart!!
It looks absokutley gorgeous😍😍🙌🏻🙌🏻
Love this.
Stunning.
Well done great job finally someone that doesn’t destroy great pieces of furniture with chalk crap paint
Love the final result
Beautiful
It bothered me that she didn't clean the sides of the drawers :( other than that, it was satisfying seen the paint go
Yup, I was going to say the same thing. Sides of the drawers and bottom edges on the front drawer panels. But other than, that how lucky she was with the wood in that piece. And the matched grain in the veneer on the drawers. Stunning. I wish I could go cheap furniture hunting and refurbish for my house (inherited childhood home), but I have all the "modern" furniture that was here when I was a kid and all of the antique pieces too ...... bought on the cheap, but nice pieces. I don't have room for anymore furniture ..... but it would be fun to do.
Me too. I'm a stickler about getting all of the paint off.
Noticed same thing…Non OCD people would never see that 😀
Lovely!
That looks amazing
This is awesome!
I know,right
OMG that turned out stunning! I am shocked that someone painted over that gorgeous wood. And with such an awful color too. $40 and a lot if elbow grease and it looks like a million bucks! I have a couple of things I hit from restore and yard sells that are painted and the color doesn't work for me. So I wanted to see the best way to strip off the paint and your video was the first one and I'm grateful it was. Bc I don't have to watch any others. I learned what I needed to from you. Thank you
Looks pretty good!
Wow we used to have tongue nut trees in our yard! Great Grandma planted them when she was still alive well over 100 years ago
Thanks for these tips! I will definitely use them when stripping my new Upcycle
Strip the paint! Yes! I'm going to rewatch and try that citrus stuff. I had to put my back into sanding this broyhill dresser. I'm going to stain it instead of paint it now that I see the wood🤩🤩
Very pretty.
Perfection!
This turned out s beautifully
I cant believe someone would pain over this beautiful wood. I just bought a dresser that was painted over. i cant wait to see whats under
Great video! Thanks so much for sharing.
I understand people pai to g really beat up furniture, but I love to see the beautiful wood color and grain. Soooo old world.
