Great show. Many thanks, Dan, Jon, Charlotte, Antony and Matt. The scariest moments for me as a kid were with the giant maggots, the giant spiders, and the Wirrn slug, things that might slither or skitter from under your bed or even the living room sofa. Before seeing these, I didn't watch from behind the sofa, I watched from under it. Afterwards, I knew I wasn't safe down there and moved to sit on the sofa, often cross-legged, with a cushion to hand, just in case of attack. These were things that worked so well because we'd seen them before the Doctor and companion(s) knew they were there, so that we'd know that they were lurking, waiting, and we'd anticipate the moment, the tension and fear rising, when they'd creep out to get our friends - "Behind you!" I watched Revenge of the Cybermen recently, and the cybermat did the exact same thing, slithering unseen through the plague victims early on, reappearing later in order to attack Sarah for the Part One cliffhanger. We could do with a return to this sort of thing in the show today. Any chance, Russell?
Yes, like Matt, I too was spooked by the Aggedor statue - because it was spooky! It appeared out of nowhere and roared and rushed at you and killed you. You weren't safe anywhere! An abiding memory was when the Doctor was sat at the controls, trying to use the apparition of Aggedor to aid the miners, as the Ice Warriors tried to cut through the door... And that was the cliffhanger! Oh, why did they always have to stop at the exciting bit, I'd always think at the time.
