Colin's 80's hair - is that perm real or designed?
To be honest I still think the first story of Trial was good, but it wasn't great or Robert Holmes finest moment. I agree with the hosts it was lovely to see Six and Perri getting on well together and Holmes created another cracking double act with Glitz and Dimmer. Holmes was of course not well, and it must have been a torrid time for all involved in trying to save the show.
The opening shot is stunning but then a bog standard over lit corridor. In many ways that opening scene stands up better than today's special effects - because it was a model it looks real still today. So much of today's effects are wow look at that but to an extent that the wow has now become just another over-the-top look. I don’t know if I expressed that well. But sometimes I think reality should be appreciated rather than the artificial. It was built and apparently very large and was constructed as four parts that had to be ensembled. I remember reading about it in DWM - DWM was great back then - enthusiastic but not sycophantic like todays Disney-who. Drax was impressive too - a cool design and with a quite unusual personalityy. Dominic Glynn deserves so much more recognition. His moody, menacing score felt outer world. Oh nostalgia is great.

I believe there was indeed such a thing as a designer perm in the 80s, yes.

Gee guys that was a bit of a group flop - Colin Baker is notorious for his ability to eat copious amounts of dessert - in fact he shows this in an extra on the DVD box set. One of the best extras ever where Baker, Michael Jayson, Bonnie and Nicola share a dinner together and reminisce. I feel sorry for Nicola Bryant though now knowing what JNT did to her. She and Colin though got on great together almost opposite to their first season on screen.

Clearly your cohosts haven’t watched The Colin Baker Years vhs tape. Colin says he wished he hadn’t have won it (the pudding-eating competition) but he did on that tape.

Look at the expression on Karan Gillians face at 19:30 into the video. Even whilst acting as Amy, she has this look on her face expressing what we all thought, 'What on earth is this rubbish?'

Loving your conversations, guys. Keep up the great work!
Yeah they tried to polish off Colin's Doctor and make him and Peri friends like Tom's Doctor and Sarah Jane but the writing, music, acting and special effects were pretty bad (except for the space station sequence which was so good it was actually recycled to promote the Paul McGann movie). I just wasn't a fan of TOATL. They could have fixed a few more things (e.g. his costume). Colin's Doctor was a wasted opportunity.

The fact that you are bigging up this rubbish is one of the reasons why the fans are partly responsible for destroying the Classic Show. The Deadly Assassin it isn't.

What is it we are bigging up that you are so disapproving of, precisely? On Type 40 we like what we like and are happy to explain why. Some of us; maybe most of us in fact, will prefer The Deadly Assassin. Does that mean the Mysterious Planet was rubbish? Or Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, for that matter?
      I'd say not.
