Okay thanks. So just adjust the spring tension till everything works and it is the way I want it, And if I wanted no pull pack it would be to crank it in till there is none.

I've not been very impressed with most guitars factory fresh in the box. They usually have no setup at all, or they just don't bother to do it right. Hell, sometimes the frets are unfinished. The store where I got my Fender Jag bass knows how to set them up right, though. Paid a little more than some cheapo online store, but it was worth it. Didn't have to do anything but tune it. Changes with the weather, now and then, but a small tweak fixes that right up.

Quick question about the 6 screw trems. I was looking at getting a Chapman ML-1 which has a Wilkinson 6 screw vintage trem. if I wanted to set it up so I could only get very little pull back but still be able to use it down would decking the two side ones work and raising the middle four work? That is what I was told and I haven't owned one before so I ain't sure, so sorry if it is far off of how it works.

I cleaned and set up a Squier Strat this weekend. Used a lot of the things you've shown in your vids. This was a turd to start with and now it's not too bad. Thanks for the guidance.

That's something I've noticed...how come all store guitars are slightly back bowed? Is it from the moisture and all?
    Great video by the way!

The Cobain Jag is MIM, isn't that ironic?
Those were the very guitars he would break.

hey Dave - if you change from 9's to 10's do the intonation change and the saddles need moving back and how come some guitars the spring on the low e saddle needs cutting or removing and not others ? cheers

Hey Dave I love your vids man.i just got a USA strat of eBay did all the measurements it was great on that.i set the tremolo floating like you do and it works great!i was just wondering if I add a spring and put 10's on can i still have 4/64 action with out rattle.i know I will have to redo specs after I change to 10's.i think the guitar has 8 or 9's on it not sure i don't have a caliper.let me know your thoughts thanks for all u do! Cheers!

I have the same exact guitar (color and everything, which FYI is Olympic White) but MIA. I'm thinking of trying to set it up for 10's as well. But I also want to hard-tail it...I don't use the trem. Haven't taken the back plate off to check how the springs are set up. With the trem hardtailed, the 10's setup would be resetting the neck relief, string height, radius, and intonation? Or what else do I need to check

Love your videos. Question: What do you do when a truss rod has no adjustment left -- when loosening it fails to get any neck relief, or conversely when tightening it fails to straighten the neck? I am under the impression that the fix is to replace the truss rod but that's too difficult and expensive to do unless the guitar is really special.

i prefer strings to have no radius, i drop the action to the deck and then raise it until there is no fret buzz on the d and g.

My 2011 MIM-HSS came with the same block, in Dave's video. It's the copper burst colored limited edition. GS told me the MIM's from 2010 to the present use them now. At least in the HSS series. I'd think it would be in all?

probably Arctic winter or some such shit. There are like a thousand names for white, thanks to the paint companies and fancy ass designers that think white is cool, so long as it's not just called white.

You mean floating the trem? original patents show the bridge with an eighth of an inch gap between the bridge and the body.

Are you sure that right out of the box? Mexican Strats don't use a big block. Ever.

  • @IPushHard
    @IPushHard 11 лет назад

My biggest prob trying to do Strat set up is that I don't know when the neck angle is wrong and needs a shim.
Seems to me that neck angle is the first thing (along with relief) that needs to be correct.
So how do you check neck angle on a Strat?
