    Got it! Nice clear and concise demonstration. And you're the only guitar tech on RUclips that I've come across who advises stretching your strings. An essential step unless you want to be constantly re-tuning for days. I subscribed for that reason. Thanks Rusty.

Your video is the first I found here on RUclips that shoes the entire string change process very clearly and completely understandable from A to Z including string stretching. I appreciate your effort very much and with your help I was able to change my strings successfully on my strat a few minutes ago 😊.

    awesome simple video. i had no ideal the locking tuners were so easy to deal with. strung it up np, great vid. only thing i'd suggest to add is to remind people to clean up the guitar once the strongs are off--dusting etc in detail--otherwise it never happens and it does make it look so much nicer.

    Remember if you have a left handed guitar to order left hand locking tuners (Fender offer their locking tuners in both left and right handed versions). I have put locking tuners on my lefty American Professional Strat and Tele and my Mexican Player Strat and Tele. Highly recommend this upgrade (no drilling involved, the locking tuners drop right into the holes of the original tuners).

  • @allenwhite1978
    @allenwhite1978 3 года назад +3

    Locking tuning keys. Picture the headcap of the neck as the face of a clock, with the top being 12:00 and the nut being 6:00. Line the six tuning machines so that the first string keyhole is set at 1:00, the second at 2:00, the third and fourth at 3:00, the fifth at 4:00, and the sixth at 5:00. Pull the strings through tautly and tighten the thumb wheel, locking the string in. Now tune to pitch.

    Thanks for the demo 👍🏼 So basically these are just to make restringing easier, which isn’t a bad thing. I just thought locking tuners had some way of magically keeping the tuning more accurate.

    • @martgryfny
      @martgryfny 2 года назад +1

      It keeps the tuning more accurate, because in general the string is shorter, as you have no wraps on the tuner. The strings gets extended under the tension, especially if you bend the string or use the trem, so there is allways some movement on the wraps as that part of the string is extended too. Because there is some friction between each wrap, the tuning is unstable. No wraps - better tuning stability. On regular tuning peg you can get a little improvement on tuning stability if the string is evenly wrapped. If it scatters, its terrible. Also staggered tuners sometimes still needs the string tree, but there is smaller angle on the tree, so the friction on the tree is smaller, so the stability is better. Same thing about the nut - less friction, better tuning stability.

    Looking to get a Tele with these so thanks for the video. Am I right in saying the pistons which pinch the strings are to stop slippage around the machine head? I’ve not used these locking tuners and before the video wondered if tuning had to be done with the locks unscrewed first. It makes more sense now that you say the ‘piston’ holds the string tight, while the actual tuning just deals with the tension of the string - if I’m right.
