- Learn how to replace the track belts on your John Deere 8RT! The process is the same for all 8RT models. In this video, you will learn how to jack up and support the tractor, how to detension and tension the tracks, how to take the tracks on and off, and how to properly align the tracks for maximum tread and belt life.
Learn the tips and tricks! If you own an 8RT, it is important to know how to do this task because you need to either align or rotate your tracks just like you would your vehicle as you start to notice abnormal wear.
A track tractor definitely has more maintenance involved with maintaining track components but their performance in the field is unmatched. More traction, less compaction, greater maneuverability, and better auto steer performance makes them very popular with today's farmers.
This trade in tractor had 24" tracks on narrow track frames and it didn't take long to completely wear out the treads in the middle. Since this is a super clean nice tractor, we are going to upgrade these tracks with 18" Trackman belts from Loc Performance. These belts have fully molded guide lugs and tread bars, 50% more wires per inch over previous designs, consistent rubber thickness, wide center design for better clean out, and come in 16", 18", and 24" sizes. Trackman belts are designed and manufactured in the USA and are now available to buy through your local John Deere dealer!

I’m glad to see you taking time to teach the next generation..little moments like this is where they sponge up good information and build knowledge.
Better yet that someone has a lot of interest in learning this stuff!
Very patient and polite.Just what you want when you're learning.
Hey, that’s me!!! Thanks for teaching me Zeth
You’re very welcome!
This video is so amazing! I'm a Territory Manager for Rubber Track Solutions. I love watching a new set of tracks being installed. We are the premier Camso Distributot. Of course, i would have like to see Camso tracks installed, but Loc makes a good track as well.
Great to see a young lad interested that involves getting his hands dirty and ready for a hard days work.
👏👏👏👏
It’s always great to see you helping others and especially the young people. You are a great encouragement and excellent teacher. Love the channel
I dont work on heavy duty vehicles nor farm equipment but this channel is definitely educational
It's great to see sincere young guys like this so interested in learning a mechanical career. It's also wonderful to see someone who isn't so interested in having a cell phone or computer game in their face 24/7.
Another Master on his way. Wish we saw more kids taking up the career. Most don't know what they're missing!
I only did this twice as an apprentice, haven't had the luck of doing it as a technician so far, but this is amazing. You are the best Zeth💫
What a great kid, and a great mentor to have! There is still hope for the industry. Thanks for another great video!
My mentor was fed G sanford (Red Fox} , I became a junkman for the last 40 years, I wish I could have got into this field, which is a lot more interesting and lucrative, the ladies would like you better being a john deer tech VS a junkman, thats a fact
What an awesome video to watch with my Sunday morning coffee! I'm always so impressed by the work that you do on those big JD machines. Hat's off to the owner of that tractor, the original tracks were super worn, but the tractor looked factory fresh! Great job being a mentor to Brandon. 👍
watching your videos your getting me wanting to join john deere myself and be a good mechanic thank you for all you do keep up the great work :)
Du bist ein fantastischer Mechaniker! 🇨🇭
They sure take some good care of their machines. That thing looks immaculate on paint and such to have worn out tracks. Hats off to them for maintenance. And thanks for the great video!
I just got a new job at my local Deere dealer as a service technician cause of the videos you’ve posted
This is why i do what i do! Congrats!
Nice to see some young people learning a trade!
It amazes me how that entire beast is held of those 2 beams and one shaft. Amazing.
Great job Zeth, as always looks like Brandon has an opportunity of a lifetime working with the ZK Mastertech. And eventually becoming a JD tech
That’s so freaking sweet I wish it was that easy for trac loaders/skid steers it takes forever taking tracks on and off of them
Another great video. Josh is so good as a helper to you. He knows how to handle a forklift too! You have patience, which is needed to teach and guide the new generation of techs. You can tell the eagerness of your student.
this just gives me flash backs of changing track on the M1A2 Sep abrams MBT it was hell using that dog bone dealing with the idler wheel and track tension
Great comprehensive install video. Thanks Zeth!
You’re welcome!
You guys make re-tracking look easier than busting tires on and off rims.
could not find a better mentor....wish the young guy the best
I work for Quinn CAT which is a AGCO dealer and I have worked on many challengers and fendts. After watching this track replacement video I noticed how similar john deeres track systems are to challenger and fendt roller frames. Really cool! Thank you for the video!
Just got a new set of 16" wide for our 8360RT. We used to have the local dealer swap our track as we would change from 16" for row crop to 24" for tillage/planting with a grain drill. only going to use the new 16" tracks that we just got and put them on ourselves after watching this video. We just need to invest in the correct tools. Thanks for the info and effort you put into this.
When I was a whipper snapper I don't think I fully appreciated the senior engineer's who unselfishly taught me all they knew. These kids are the tomorrow, well done with the succession planning Zac and thanks for the informative video. I'm no farmer, if I was I don't think I would own one of these tractors.
Wow, way to teach the upcoming future John Deere Tech. The college is going to probably want you to teach when you retire. Awesome content.
A great teaching segment.
Another great tech in the making 👍
Could've used this video a couple summers ago! Thanks Zeth, love the channel
Zeth, thanks as always, another very interesting video. Was also great to see you giving very positive encouragement to some young blood wanting to get into the AG industry and wish Brandon good luck next Fall. Those new tracks look great and are more in keeping with the narrow running gear.
Thanks for another great video.
It was interesting and enjoyable.
Thanks for taking us along on this journey. I have never seen tracks changed before so found this most interesting.
Takes a little work and fine tuning the adjustments. Not just a on and off thing.
Josh and Brandon did a good job of helping and learning. Well done.
Thanks ZK.
The Iowa Farm Boy.
Great information. Excellent teacher as well.
If he keeps on track he has a opportunity with a great future ahead of him
You have a great channel. Exceptional content! Well explained. You know what you’re doing for sure!
Thank you so much 👍
Interesting video. Greetings from Ireland...
That 370 is spotless!
Awesome seeing a High School kid wearing Cowboy boots and jeans WANTING to work and become something!!! AWESOME TO SEE, especially getting greasy and dirty at that!!!!!
I need to move the tracks on our 8360rt in to load on a trailer. I’m just waiting on the drain/ fill hose to come in. This video will help. Thanks!
Good luck!
Thank you for this knowledge! 👍
i need one of these tractors for my garden!!!
I got the knowledge that i needed. Thanks big bro.
Another awesome vid! Keep the deere's running! Have fun
You 2, sir, made it look easy !
That thing is sweet with those new sneakers on it
First, I always enjoy watching and learning from you, you do a good job of explaining what you are doing and why. Second, it is good that you are training young people the right way to do a task. Third, it is nice that Sloan allows you to take the time to document and share what you do. Thanks and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.
Thank you!
Gracias por sus videos. Saludos desde España.
Merry Christmas to You and Josh and Families!👍👍🎶🎶⭐️⭐️😇😇🇺🇸🇺🇸🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Merry Christmas!
Very educational! Nice Job!
Not suggesting anyone would want to do it, but how different is the tractor frame whether it is on tracks or wheels? The rear mud guards look as if they are for a wheeled tractor and towards the bow there looks to be the location for a front axel. Thanks for sharing, it must take time to set up to film and I do appreciate that.
Oh to be young again. Little man looks like he hasn’t grown any facial hair yet but his enthusiasm for the work is on point! For now. Lol!
Stay on the straight and narrow path young man. You will go far.
Good luck with your future jobs.
Nice video. Thank you for making it & happy holidays to you and yours
Same to you!
Good for Brandon !!
Hello Zeth, I hope you are doing okay. I love your sharings and they are very informative. Thanks for your efforts to create good contents like that. I have a question to ask you and mind your opinion as I think you are equipped enough to give a good answer. The question is;
•What’s TORQUE ?
• What increases it in a tractor ?
Thanks, all the best. 🎉🎉🎉
The best way i can easily explain it is this: toque would be how much weight you can bench press and horsepower is how fast you can bench press that weight.
The main way you can increase torque is an increase in engine displacement, an increase in fuel and air, and more compression. The bigger the boom inside the cylinder, the more force is pushed down in the piston = more torque.
@@ZKMasterTech THANKS FOR YOUR GOOD ANSWER, I GOT THE POINT AND WISH YOU GOOD LUCK 🍀 TO KEEP THE GREEN IRON MOVING. 👍👍
I love how the spacing is way out. I work for a JD dealer in California our spacing are usually 80 inches or narrower. It’s a little more fun to get the tracks off 😂
These tractors look brand new like they have been used to go to church on sunday. 🤣
That tractor looks too new to have worn out a set of tracks. I will probably never see a tractor that big but I enjoyed your RUclips
Finally a well made instruction on this job! Thanks Zeth. Question….I assume the SVC setting at half and 5 minutes pressure time during reassembly is the same on all generations of track machines?
Thanks! Yes same setting.
Great awesome video zeth . I Witt Deere would do that with there excavators and dozer tracks
Belo trabalho. Ainda aguentaria mtas horas de trabalho a esteiras substituídas . Quantas horas de trabalho dura esses esteiras ...pois o trator está mto novo ? .🇧🇷
Have you done a video on removing the track tensioner cylinder? Our pins wont budge wondering if any tricks before turning them into liquid
Why did you replace with 18” tracks? Good job and good luck to the young man that was helping!
Because it has narrow track frames.
THAT'S ONE MEAN LOOKING MEACHINE. THOSE TRACKS SET THAT RT OFF
Nice Vid
Could you setup some kind of wireless camera and mount it where you could see if the track lug is offset?
It's great that there is a way for the next gen kids can get a good start at becoming a tech...they didn't have this kind of thing in my day.
Just curious...what do you do with the old tracks? Are they recycled or something?
Teach the boy that pushing down is easier than pulling up when tightening or loosening.
I really do like that torque wrench who makes it
Does anyone know why the 2 track machines aren't priced less than the rest of the lineup ? Seems to me that the absence of a front drive train and its associated running gear would save a commensurate amount of money . Just wondering , keep up the good work Zeth .
Tracks themselves are expensive, track frame assembly is expensive and it attaches different than other drive option
Great video that machine looks like new, tracks not last long? or a lot of road running? Tracks are big $$$ but what isn't these days!
Good informative video! I noticed the tracks are spaced out all the way out do you happen to have a video showing how to space the tracks in and out ? TIA
Not yet!
Not yet!
@@ZKMasterTech okay thanks bud
👍
I saw that you removed the outer idler wheel. Have you ever tried removing the outer drive wheel instead? If it had idler weights, it might be a good alternative. I believe that pulling the drive wheel is the way it's done on Challengers when the tractor has a stack of idler weights.
Good day do you work on john deere construction equipment or just framing equipment
Just ag
Great video Zeth! What’s book time to R&R tracks? How many hours of this tractor? What were the tracks replaced? Thanks for the video!
Exact question how much does a set a tracks or per track how much do they weigh I know you’re using a forklift also I like the hydraulic tensioning system they have on that I’m used to a skid steer’s and excavators that use a grease cylinder in there that is pretty bad ass
Much easier than changing a tire.
Gotta convince your boss to get a RAD torque systems digital B-Rad
IT was nice to See how He stand on the groud without the midrolers
Because i think the tension of the Rubberchains is so strong that the John Deere can Drive without it
Can you try this and Take a pice of Wood under the Chain
Just use a forklift to lift/push the front idlers back.
Got any tricks to get the oil back in the hubs without making a mess?
I'm a bit shocked seeing such a "new" tractor getting the tracks changes. We got a 12 year old 200hp tractor at 4600hours with it's first tire change coming up soon.
Trevor again from England .I’m not sure but in the last few seconds of your video did I notice a tear or a crack in the rear tread
👍👍👍
May I recommend you take the ring off the finger before the ring takes the finger off. The ring could cut the finger clean off or be crushed onto the finger. Safety first!
You need to cut you a piece of that track or something like it to put between the drive wheel and the track itself and then you’ll have it when you’re doing this kind of work
Holy crap that is a big torque wrench! Do you know what brand it is? I am trying to convince my shop to get one for the 9RX's so I don't have to lug a torque multiplier with my torque wrench under the tractor when I do inspections. Does it matter how fast you go when driving your 150 feet? I have had difficulties doing track alignments on the 9RX tractors but that may be because I am new to Deere.
@KAL1080 I’m not sure off the top of my head what brand it is. I’d have to look. I usually go 2-3 mph when driving back and forth.
I changed a front tire on my X300...only took me half a day.
The first time I aligned tracks it took me 3.5 hrs lol they can be a pain sometimes
Would these tracks need conditioning before being sent out to work?
I know absolutely nothing about tracks, so I’m just asking. Wouldn’t you get a more “true” torque if you torque it while it’s still off the ground?
Nice job why do trackers run on tracks in the US?
Hay Zeth grate video! Question what kind of air Jake are you using?
Emerson 20,000 lb.
Thank you
how long does those tracks last for and how much do they cost each
What is the life expectancy of those tracks
Do the tracks need periodic adjustment as they wear?
Yes the alignment needs to be checked to catch something wrong before it’s too late. Should check them about every 50 hrs.
I would think after a 10 to 50 hour run time you should do that again.
At least check the clearances
What keeps that tractor from falling on its nose?
That heavy engine and all those weights can't cantalevering forward of the front idler by almost 10 feet ...??!!
Inconceivable!
How many hours do tracks typically last?
How does your shop charge for the variation in times that it takes to adjust the tracks?
