    OOOPS NO actors Do not write "non-union" on a resume. If the actor is not SAG-AFTRA we know they are non union. We don't write it on resumes. - Hollywood Talent Manager

    Could you please make an acting video about Headshots? Like what to do, what not to do, where to get them done, you know, that sort of stuff. It would really help me, (and I think), a lot of other people starting with acting. Thanks!

      You can still audition without a agent! If you make The audition you can find a agent because ur agency will start to recommend you to DIFFRENT agents

    I bought a book that a casting director wrote and I notice that a lot of times you tend to tell people to give their age.. Well in the book it said you shouldn't give your exact age, and if you do give an age range of ages you could portray. And when you go into an acting room slate in character and she said that directors and all aren't supposed to ask you your age so if they do tell them the age of the character you are auditioning for and stay in character..
    Example : if your 17 auditioning for a role of a 15 year old girl and they ask the age .. Stay in character and tell them your 15
    And your resume shouldn't have your age on it or if it did have a range like 15-20

      I know its 2 years late but Crystal Reed was 25 or something and She was acting as Allison who is 16... So I dont technincally think you should Lie about your age.

    • @dee.2848
      @dee.2848 6 лет назад +21

      I think you are a bit confused. Anyone under the age of 18 has to slate their real age. What you are thinking of is a PLAYING age. This is the age that you LOOK/ can play, for example if you are 13 but you look about 15, you would state you real age, but also your playing age/range.
      So an example of a proper slate would be this:
      Hello, I am *your name*, I'm 13 years old with a playing range of 13-15 years old and I am *your height*. It is optional, but if you are managed by a talent agency you can also mention "I am represented by *your agency*.
      What you've just kind of implied is that you should lie to the casting directors about your age to increase your chances of getting a role, which seems tempting to do but then can spiral out of control, especially if you lie about being older than you really are and then are asked to do some scenes that are too mature for your real age. Casting directors find lying a HUGE turn off and you can end up getting in their bad books and ultimately not booking work if you start to build this bad reputation of lying.

    My tip for beginning actors:
    To expand your resume start doing local theatre or a studio that automatically cast you. It allows you to gain experience as some places won’t give you a main role if you have no experience!
    I was Matilda in Matilda in DFW and auditioning for Little Elsa on Broadway in April

  • @LisaRent
    @LisaRent 6 лет назад +24

    I had a casting director tell me to never put a headshot on my resume. I was auditioning for a film in Hollywood and he said it made me look like an amateur. I was very new to the LA scene and felt chastised and embarrassed. Maybe things have changed.

    • @dee.2848
      @dee.2848 6 лет назад +14

      no, you're very right indeed. this video is VERY old, so putting your headshot on your resume was considered the industry norm... not anymore! instead, staple your resume onto the back of your headshot (which should be 8" by 10" on photo paper) and cut it down to match the size of it. I'm really sorry about your experience, but let this be a learning curve for us all! Good luck!

    I'm filming myself doing monologues from books, movies,tv shows, random online ones, & some monologues I made up and I'm posting them on RUclips and TikTok so I'll be able to reference them. (I'm mainly only posting them on TikTok because it's such a big platform right now and if they go big on there I can direct people over to my RUclips, which I haven't posted any of the monologues on my RUclips yet.)

      Every actor has the exact same fear. Every single one. The great ones, are the ones who do it anyways. The ones who go up and are willing to look foolish. To put their heart out there when they perform. What's the worst that could happen? You go up and do horribly. Or, you never even try and don't get to find out all the ways you could have great at it. Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. You got this!!!

    I was wondering what a union was?

    • @rubyconnell3654
      @rubyconnell3654 7 лет назад +8

      i looked it up cause i was curios to its basically being a union member means you are a professional actor. You have the card to prove it

    • @PatrickWeekstheamazingpatrix
      @PatrickWeekstheamazingpatrix 6 лет назад +1

      Not necessarily; you can be a professional actor without being a member of one of the unions. There are benefits and drawbacks to joining some of the acting unions, depending on how you join. You do have to get cast in a professional production in order to be eligible to join a union, but that does not by any means mean you are required to join. Some examples of some benefits and drawbacks of joining a union: with any of the unions, as a member you are protected from being mistreated, underpaid, overworked, etc. while involved with a project. However, depending on your union membership type, you may be required to only accept union contracts and will be unable to do nonunion work without the risk of losing your union membership. Unions are essentially groups that protect the workers in an industry from mistreatment of any kind, and they exist in a large variety of industries, from acting to construction to unions for people who work in mines. But, as I said previously, you don't necessarily have to be a member of any of the acting unions in order to be a professional actor. You might not be able to take union contracts, but there are a large number of projects out there that are nonunion and paid. The distinction between a professional actor and a non-professional actor (by that I don't mean an actor who doesn't behave and act in a professional manner) is simply whether or not the actor has been paid for any of the roles they've portrayed.
