The wedding ring - i see this topic from a different angle of view: Marriage is one of the most important steps in your life.
And the simple golden wedding band ist a powerfull symbol.
A show-off ring with big diamonds is the opposite: is the love greater, when your ring is more expensive?
And in the near past it was custom, that husband and wife get the same rings. And on the inside of the rings is a smal insciption with your names.

On the wellness hotel, we have many more days of holidays a year compared to Americans. 25-30 vacation days per year. We do go to Spain, South France, Thailand, etc…, but adding 1-2 days of holiday to a weekend (especially and extended bank holiday weekend) can get you 5 days of dedicated time to relax and indulge in your well being in a luxurious/healthy environment, which is another type of holiday to have in one’s year.

Meat vending machine: It´s in front of a butcher .. most probably run by this butcher. For sure it is not focussed on vegetables.
For vegetables you go to a local farmer shop. Often a hut, open 24/7, and often just a box where you put your money in. No personel.
7:44: "there is no ocean by Germany". About 1600 km is "no" coast? Then there are the 300 lakes (out of a total of 12,000) where you can go swim.
Spa-Hotels: There are hotels with spa area. Often in cities where you go when you travel for business. Spa-Hotels are mainly used for vacation, and usually are in areas with much nature - you may also enjoy - around.
Engagement ring: If you are a gold digger, you probably are after an expensive ring. If you are the opposite, then the "promise" is all you need. The spent money is nothing but a "show". It does not make the partnership more serious. Divorce rate is higher in the US.
Taxes: Don´t get me wrong: I don´t like to pay taxes and I think the regulations are just crazy. But you get a lot back (especially when in need). Wheter it´s public transportation, clean environment, social security, subsidizing green energy, free/cheap kindergarden, schools, universities, protecting the nature, public parks, volunteer fire brigades and their expensive equipment, good roads (compared to other countries), sewage treatment plants, high quality of tap water and it´s continous monitoring, museums, maintenance of historic buildings, monuments and memorials, technical research programs, social workers, ... a lot you don´t see now, but you would miss.

These food* vending machines are a way for producers to market directly without having to stand in the store. My experience is that they contain excellent quality.
*It's not just meat, it depends on what the farmer, fisherman, fruit farmer, dairy, winemaker, cheese maker, etc. produces!
Weddings in the USA are a huge industry, here in Europe not so much.
With the stove, you just have to get more involved with cooking, different cooking methods (steam cooking, low temperature cooking). Is something like Thermomix a thing in the USA?
Everyone would like to pay less tax, it always depends on what you get back, doesn't it? Like in the store, I buy the more expensive stuff or the cheap junk and then buy 2-3 times.
    IMAO

Traditionally there were no engagement-rings in Germany; after engagement you used to wear the ring on the left hand and changed it to the right with the wedding

Yes, engagements weren’t really a thing (as my partner told me)

    • @martinjunghofer3391
      @martinjunghofer3391 3 месяца назад

@@ZoieMarie Wrong, engagement was/is a big deal, but mainly internal. When you get engaged, it has a big influence on your attitudes and behavior towards the opposite sex! You stop looking for another potential partner and you prepare for marriage with all its advantages and disadvantages. That is extremely important, but it happens primarily in your own head! So I don't have to show it off to the outside world. And besides, only women wear that huge and expensive diamond ring - do you need that? In my opinion, that is macho behavior and sexual discrimination at its finest!
Cooking is something completely different than warming up!

The whole Dating, Engagement, Wedding, Ring.... thing is just not thaaaat important in Germany. If you get a big ring for your engagement and you show it to friends and colleagues, everybody will think: what a bloody show off! And why do they get engaged anyway? They just want the presents and the attention,....what a waste of money! Haha, as a European you just dont do that stuff or its very seldom....It may have something to do with gender equality , too. Women here do not expect the future husband to give them such expensive , not necessary gifts for their wedding...you rather buy a nice car or a new kitchen together..

    • @ZoieMarie
      @ZoieMarie  4 месяца назад +9

You’re right! In Germany these things like rings, engagements is not that important. The people I know who got married rather put their money into a home together or traveling the world than spending it all on a ring or a massive wedding.

When it comes to engagement rings America has had much stronger marketing about them and they used to be the only way to support for women in case of divorce. In Europe engagement have never been a huge thing, marriage was the real deal and it was celebrated with just a simple wedding band.
In the USA the diamond lobby also used to advertise that a guy needed to get a ring for at least 3 months of salary.
Most women then found out the at their ring are worth a fraction of what their partners paid for it

Why you re paying so much taxes? Cause Education is free, Childcare is almost free depending on your income. You pay for healthcare to your insureance comp ( so no tax) and no one pay tax for the first 11 k/year. After that you pay a little percent for the next 100 Euro/month raising in steps up to 45% when your income is over 277 k/year. So if you pay the max you own a lot more than the everage ppl. So reduce your income under about 800 € and be happy not to pay anything and get free education, heathcare, daycare for the kids, payed materal leave, even free public transport and housing aso. So yes ritch ppl pay more cause they can afford it. So don t be angry about it you will help someone else like the single mother that is a half day working cashier with minimum vage.

Many young ppl nowadays consider engagement an old-fashioned tradition. Regarding engagement rings, I'd say, it depends on the income of the groom and the bride's taste. I think European women tend more to simple, classy style and find these fancy, big rocks a bit exaggerated. It should be a ring for eternity and everyday life as well.
Wellness hotels are for short vacations, e.g. a weekend, and for physical and mental wellbeing. Is there a longer vacation, e.g. one week or more, Germans and Austrians love to go to Italy, Spain, Greece, etc. in summer and to Egypt or Canary Islands in winter. Or they go to the Alps for skiing.

Smoking in venues, outdoor restaurants, around children, etc. I now have to keep an inhaler with me every time I leave meine Wohnung. @LarimaBeyondBorders 3 месяца назад

@@tic-tacdrin-drinn1505 I was born in a time where cigarette smoking on airplanes was still allowed. With the advances in science, it is undeniable second hand smoke has harmful effects. As adults, one should be able to inhale and/or inject whatever substances they want into their bodies but others should not be subjected to those harmful effects without their consent. It’s a matter of personal freedom and public health and protecting individuals, especially vulnerable populations, from exposure to dangerous substances is essential for a responsible and respectful society. This is a matter that I take very seriously as I had an aunt who smoked probably a pack a day inside her home back in the 80s. Her daughter died of cancer at 26. About 6 months later my aunt grieved herself to death. Tobacco companies concealed for decades how dangerous their products were back then and it cost the lives of thousands of people.

engagement rings and wedding rings: there is a very practical side to it which we efficient Germans think about: a) engagement rings are very expensive and young couples would rather spend a lot of money on their three-week honeymoon to Bali or invest in a new home or furniture than on a ring that is essentially meaningless. b) most women work hard every day (in former times mostly in households or in menial jobs and lets face it - even working wives spend a LOT more time on child care and household chores than their husbands do - today more so in regular jobs, yet) you do not want to scratch up or loose (even when washing hands), a ring that has a very emotional meaning to most people or was very expensive. A simple ring without major stones will usually be on their finger for life (or for as long as the marriage lasts), whereas a fancy stone ring will often just lay in the jewellery box….
About dogs: when dogs are so unsanitary, why do so many people have dogs in their homes, around their kids, next to their kitchen table, in the U.S.? Most Germans take dog training very seriously. They (or rather their dogs) attend dog schools and know to behave in public spaces and among strangers….

Oh yes, taxes. We really like to complain about them. They are shocking when you see the pay slip.
    But we also have free
    - health insurance
    - unemployment insurance
    - long-term care insurance
    - state pension (used to be higher - boomers like me need too much of the pension pot)
    - free schools and universities
    - toll-free roads and motorways
    - security
    - cleanliness in public spaces
In many countries this is not so common. There you have to pay for everything yourself from your income. Zoie has also mentioned this several times in her videos.

Why a wedding ring on the right
Christian faith: The tradition of wearing the wedding ring on the right goes back to the Christian faith. In the biblical quotation Exodus 15:6, the right side is described as the “good, auspicious side”. Accordingly, the wedding ring should also be worn on the good side.
(my faith) Germanic tradition: The Germanic tribes believed that the vein of love (vena amoris) ran through the right hand. This belief may have established the wedding ring on the right hand.
Protestant tradition: Protestant churches wore the wedding ring on the right hand to distinguish themselves from the Catholic tradition. Martin Luther is said to have worn his wedding ring on his right hand and referred to the Bible.
Cultural tradition: In Germany, Austria and many other European countries, wearing the wedding ring on the right hand is a cultural tradition. It is passed down from generation to generation and is part of traditional wedding customs.
Symbolic meaning: The wedding ring on the right hand can also be seen as a symbol of fidelity and love between the couple. It is seen as a sign of the commitment and eternity of the marriage bond.

Maybe for American cooking, it is not so important to have so many different settings in one oven.
But it is good that there are ovens that allow this: for better results some dishes require grilling from the top, others from the bottom, others need air circulation, etc.
If you know what you need, all the settings are just as important as temperature and baking time.
