Good question
Yes we do! We only text in German and we speak about 50% German 50% English. It helps me a lot because I can say what I want and not feel judged or embarrased about my 'bad German' and he helps me and corrects it.
That questions sounds wrong. Important is not the kind of relationship but the language you communicate it. You can really learn a language without having a intimate relationship with somebody of that language (•‿•)
