Favorite past time of many middle age men on sunday having annoying wifes is to wash their car for hours every time the sun comes out, just not to be with her 🤣

Not attending church services was even a thing back in the 1950s for men in some Catholic villages. While the women and children listened to the priest's sermon, the men would stand outside, gossiping, and only enter after the sermon was over. And for some farmers the only reason to go to church was the traditional "Frühschoppen" (roughly "morning pint", whereby in the Southwest and the Palatinate a "Schoppen" refers rather to a quarter-liter glass of wine) in one of the village's inns, where they met to gossip after church.
Not attending church regularly has always been a thing everywhere. Go to virtually any European village or small town. How many people does the town church seat? 200? How many people live in town? 2,000? There you go.
@@MichaEl-rh1kv Sure, but the village in which my mom grew up has had more than 1000 inhabitants for centuries. Yet the village church never seated more than 200 people at the very most. Near-universal church attendance has been a fantasy for a long time.
