  • Test riding the legendary / un-killable KLR-650. I enjoyed the bike for what it is and imagine it’s dual purpose abilities would make it a really fun all around bike.

Shifter is the first thing I noticed on my 2023 ADV model. I actually like it on the road except for the front nobby more than my 99 or 2000 (whatever the first model year was) XR650R Desert Bike. We rode lots of asphalt and dirt in California City back then. Wish I kept the Honda but I am liking my new KLR so far around town and some dirt roads. But I am old. I will keep it for my fun low tech utility machine but I will need a street bike with a 6th gear too.

I got a 2012 with 5k miles on it and new knobby kenda and Bridgestone tires, I went from my 03 1600 Roadstar to this, and it is definitely a taller bike and yes you definitely feel the need to go off-road almost everywhere. It’s perfect for me , I ended up selling my big bike and use this bike almost daily… its what it is and I truly enjoy it . Oh and I’ve learned that with the new shenko 804-805s it likes to lean so far over into turns that it turns itself and I scrape the pegs. Even when standing, you can lean these little tanks way further than most would think.

You guys in the US don't get them but the single most reliable truck in the world in production today is the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series. It has been in production for 40 years with minimal updates. Toyota don't make bikes. The closest thing to a bike version of the 70 Series is this Kawasaki KLR which began 37 years ago, it's the Land Cruiser 70 of bikes. The design brief is go anywhere and never break down.
