@@JaysNest thank you! 🥰 I’ve literally been watching your videos since 2018 before we even started TTC so it’s a little surreal that I finally get to use all my cloth research on a newborn ❤️
Love this content! We are about to start cloth diapering our second when he arrives in a few weeks! We cloth diapered our first child as a newborn and had NO IDEA what we were doing.
I would love any and all content on newborn cloth diapering! I'm still trying to conceive, but I've already started my NB stash! If you have any tips for the very new NB days, I would love to hear about that. I can imagine how hard it is being a new mom and trying to figure all of it out. I love watching your videos!
Love seeing that you are continuing the cloth diaper videos. Jay Jabbers is my favorite series! DD2 is expecting twins July 24th deciding to give cloth wipes and diapers a try. ❤
I LOVE OBV and OCV! My favorite cloth pads are topped with those. In 2019 I bought a box full of fabric scraps from Sassy Flats and sewed up a ton of 2 layer inserts/boosters from the different fabrics that brand uses for their stretchy flats. I was using them as boosters for my (now 2 and 3 years old) kiddos, but I imagine they would be excellent for our newborn due in June!
Those are my favorite type of cloth pads too 😍 seriously the best material and so comfy! I love that you were able to buy scraps and use them as boosters. That’s actually a really great idea
Aww I love that he’s gotten so much good use out of his nb diapers! Having bamboo & hemp inserts makes a huge difference to extending the absorbency of diapers 💖
The alva plain bamboo inserts in the newborn size make great little newborn boosters and were fairly cheap from what I can remember. They are narrow which is good but in some diapers they were a little long but they were thin enough that I could just fold a bit over without any bulk. I'm also a fan of cutting up things for boosters/wipes. Things that were destined for the trash anyway so I don't bother hemming and I can just dump them after a wash or 2 when they start fraying. I mostly use old pajama bottoms and t shirts. They make good cleaning rags too!
I just wanted to say you are such a life saver for a cloth diaper mom! I am currently pregnant with my second, and with my daughter I didn’t cloth diaper. Thanks for your straight forward advice! 🖤
I found some bamboo newborn inserts and I had some small Birdseye flats that I wrapped around the bamboo, and that combo worked for my crazy heavy wetter until we could fit OS. Microfiber and FSTs were just too bulky with not enough absorbency.
I used FSTs wrapped around mf when i first started cloth and whew it was so huge on a little baby😂 but I had no clue what I was doing lol Bamboo & hemp inserts are great for the absorbency without the large bulk 👏🏻
Love this one. We did newborn cloth, but I was so new I didn’t consider wetness sensitivity or boosting. We were changing pretty much every 45 minutes, because baby girl would soak her cotton prefolds! Can’t wait for the opportunity to cloth another fresh baby bum. 💗
You're the best! I was just thinking these days how not to have one million different types of items to cloth diaper 🙃 I really like to keep things simple and I hate hate hate sorting and folding laundry. And since I'm diy-ing and repurposing I was thinking preflats made of old t-shirst and 2 or 3 different size and material square inserts/wipes/i'm sure i will find another use for those... and see how it goes 🙃 Respect and lots of love from Slovenia ❤ you really are a big inspiration!
@@JaysNest you know Slovenia? I love living here. People not so much, some can still be so incredibly closed-minded it hurts 🤫 but the landscapes 🥰❤🥰 I think cloth diapers and repurposing go hand in hand 😊 saving money and caring for environment. I'm slowly moving towards zero waste and expecting a child makes me want it even more. We're lucky enough here in Slovenia to stil have very healthy nature. But we need to seriously start taking care of it or we might lose it under piles of trash...
I never needed to add anything to my NB covers and prefolds, but I had a few AIOs that my guy would immediately flood. All I had on hand to add was fleece cloth wipes, and they helped for a bit, but soon they weren’t enough either. If I ever have another baby I’ll try to find some NB size hemp inserts.
The small hemp/cotton doublers from Green Mountain Diapers and preemie prefolds have been working well for us with newborn diapers. I didn't put much thought into boosters, but it worked out that I already had a random assortment including some Zorb boosters from training pants and homemade inserts. I didn't expect my baby to be a heavy wetter, but as a boy, all his pee goes right to the front of the diaper, so that area needs to be really absorbent. 💜 Heidi
Been through this stage too!!and tried all you shared, adding NB prefolds as well, and desperately cut my hemp inserts (Aliexpress ones) into half(vertically) and quarters just to fit under the tounge of grovia aio (my baby prefers to be dry)..... how crazy i looked back in those sleep-deprived times(what a memory)! 🤣🤣 edited again: i forgot,i even added my obv/bamboo-fleece pantyliner sometimes under the flap! lol!
oh and my babies are in smaller size,so they can fit the NB up until 6mo! definitely need those boosters and use the cute little NB aios a lot longer 🥰
Hello! I have been cloth diapering on and off with my first baby. I LOVE doing it and even the laundry. It just feels right and is kinda fun! Cloth just seems more intentional and special. I have trouble because my pocket diapers, when stuffed with a bamboo insert (deep absorbency) and microfiber insert (quick absorbency on top), are so puffy they keep him from lying/traveling well on the floor. I’m scared if I “downsize” my insert routine he will pee through. I guess I could change him more often? I probably change him every two-three hours. He is even good for his 5-7 hours sleep shifts at night. If you have a typical five month boy insert regimen that you could share I’d love that! In the meantime I am gonna try replacing the super thick microfiber with some baby wash cloths to provide that quick absorbency without the bulk. 🤞🏼
I’d say the microfiber isn’t necessary and I’d just move to 2 bamboo insert and give that a try to see if it’s less bulky. It’ll definitely be more absorbent and it’s always nice to have a variety of inserts as your baby gets bigger because their absorbency needs will change a lot over time (and leaks suck). The absorption rate doesn’t matter unless you have a flooder. I know a lot of groups out a huge emphasis on absorption rate but the absorption rate of a hemp insert VS microfiber is actually very minute! I’m talking fractions of a second
@@JaysNest ahh I’m honored you responded. I have ditched the microfiber and replaced with a simple folded baby washcloth on top of my bamboo/heavy absorption layer- looks like I can experiment even more with two bamboo layers- thanks!!
Hi! I love your videos, im going into my third time around cloth diaper trip now, and changing to flats from OSFM pockets (I used the same big stash for my last two and was bulky but worked, i have big babies 4,3 kg and they pick up weight quickly) I still have my pockets in case but im planning to use my GMD one size double weave muslin. I wanted simplicity so i went for all muslin, all one size, and all clotheez covers and woolen covers. I have quite a few inserts and boosters but they are bigger (the ones i used for my one size stash, they wouldn’t fit a newborn cover) and lots of wash cloths. Im hoping i can make it work with my one size muslins from birth... they will be bulky I know but hopefully that will eradicate the need of boosting? Any tips for newborn cloth diapering with one size diapers? I have some old receiving blankets ready in case i hate the big size and decide to cut up some newborn sized ones... so that’s my back up plan. I love the cute newborn all in ones though, those ate gorgeous but for me they would last a second before outgrowing them...
If you’re using flats there are some modified folds you can use to help make the diapers not so bulky. I personally loved the modified origami fold. I have a video of OS flats at 8lbs. I am not home right now but I can come back and link a few videos I did! There are a few fit hacks with OS diapers for newborns. I’ll come back link them a little later for you 💖💖 because you can definitely make OS diapers work on a newborn especially if they’re a little bit on the bigger side at birth. Newborn AIOS really do suck for babies who grow fast or are bigger at birth
Here’s a video on how to get the leg elastics tighter, it’s the bunny ear method. You can use this for both nb and Os diapers. Newborn origami fold m.ruclips.net/video/SMtJ0zeJHQs/видео.html Modifying this fold makes it less bulky and puts more absorbency in the front/center I have an old video on OS diapers on a newborn lol. With OS diapers you might have to ft them lower on the leg, especially with the umbilical cord. This might cause poop to get further down the leg but it still works! m.ruclips.net/video/ml507bHwqEM/видео.html
Hey! I just got that s'mores print newborn diaper and I can't wait to try it! I love that it is kind of in between an AIO and a pocket. Does anyone have experience with Thirsties hemp insert in a nb size vs the geffen? Because I have larger Geffen ones, and so far, I don't reach for them as much for boosting like I thought I would on a toddler. I also prefer smaller and thinner for boosting. For reference, I mostly have used strechy flats & a cover boosted and pockets with size small GMD prefold boosted.
I have a thirsties small insert but I think they do have cotton boosters 🤔 I haven’t tried the cotton ones. The Thirsties inserts are a bit wide, I’m interested on how that would look with a newborn diaper! Might be a bit bulkier. I love GMDs Sherpa doublers. I didn’t get to use them in the newborn stage but that would be awesome, too!
Im giving birth in a couple weeks and I got a bunch of kissaluvs diapers that seem to be Terry I have been nervous to put it right on baby. Do you have any suggestions
Do you have any fleece liners? That might be a good solution for the fitteds. i had a few kissaluv fitteds a few years ago and I didnt find them to be too rough, but I also like fleece liners for fitteds!
One fabric that is really luxurious is OBV and it would make an awesome liner against the skin! An OBV wipe or making your own liners out of them would be so comfortable. I love OBV on my cloth pads 🙏🏼
I’d skip microfiber and go with a good cotton or bamboo blend fabric instead. Natural fibers are where it’s at 🖤 Do you want to make inserts or flats? Natures fabric & Kinderel are great places to look for quality fabric by the yard
I’d love your opinion on making your own boosters! Ugh I hate the cost of boosters lol I’m thinking I could buy the bamboo or hemp fabric myself and cut it. Maybe sew some that are one layer, two layers, and some three layers. I’m going to make my own postpartum pads too (also the cost for such little use of them) and hoping I could use the same fabric. Any recommendations on the thickness/weight of the fabric? I’m thinking 100% bamboo fleece?
I don’t have much experience with sewing fabrics or inserts though that sounds like an amazing way to save $$! I’m only familiar with making my own stretchy flats but tbh that only required cutting lol no sewing. Bamboo fleece is a very thick material. I imagine it would be fine for an insert! It’ll just depend on what you want to do. I’ve seen some wahms make small pad folds and half flats with stretchy flat material. Those half flats make awesome boosters!! Most make them with 2-3 layers of fabric.
