I’m so excited to try stretchy flats. I just ordered a yard of Bamboo French Terry and a yard of Bamboo Hemp French Terry. Ordered white so I can dye them myself too. 😀
You will love it 🙌🏼 I can’t stop dyeing things since I started 😂 I found a new love. It brings so much creativity and joy to the cloth diapering experience. I’d love to hear how it goes once you’re done! Come back in a new comment. I don’t always get new notifications when there are replies to comments
Definitely trying some of these for my next child 🤗 I've only ever tried GMD flats and prefolds which Definitely did the job no complaints here...Want to add some Muslim and stretchy.
Love GMD products 🙌🏼💖 their muslin flats are my favorite cotton flats. Stretchy flats are definitely a different breed of flat tho ☺️ so soft and stretchy! I’d make a whole wardrobe out of it if I knew how to sew 😂
Hi! Thanks for the update on diy stretchy flats! I was wondering: did you end up making a video of you dyeing those white fabrics you bought? I’m really curious! Thanks!
I have a one year old and am pregnant with my second. I’ve been gathering information about cloth diapering and was wondering if flats could be use as inserts for pocket diapers??
I love muslin for flats! I loved GMD muslin flats when my girls were younger. It makes for an awesome and absorbent flat For huge muslin blankets you’ll want to sew the edges because it will fray and unravel
You said this material doesn’t fray when you cut it. Is that true even if you cut at an angle or only if you cut straight up and down? Basically I want to make preflats but wondering if that changes the fraying thing!
The nature of this fabric doesn’t fray at all which is one of the best parts about working with this fabric. I’ve made wipes, headbands, and flats from it with no issue. It’s the fabric blend in itself that does not cause fraying. These are awesome to make preflats with!
You can get cotton French terry or hemp French terry, too. French terry in general is a great textile blend to work with. Bamboo definitely has its pros/cons. It’s heavily manufactured through a chemical process. That’s definitely a deep dive in itself because we often consider bamboo to be a natural fiber, but in order to make it into a textile it goes through a heavy chemical process. Cotton & hemp are always great natural fiber options if you can find those choices! 💕
I remember watching a video where someone was absorbency testing and she got 27oz out of a diaper but that had to have been in 2018 and I cannot find it. Looking back, I’m wondering if the diaper was double layered. I feel like she had a flat bottom diaper but I’m unsure. They’re not even in business anymore. I feel like it was Jen Pickmann who made that video (she coined the pickman method for folding flats) I’m going to do my own absorbency testing because I’ve just been regurgitating what other people have said and I’d love to see some actual results. The fabric blend, the size of the flat, and the GSM matters so much In this context. Almost all of my flats are 30x30. Are you in the flat cloth diaper love Facebook group? That would be a good place to roam
Jersey is a smooth fabric on both sides. French Terry has one smooth side and one looped side. The weave of the fabric is looped. French Terry is often offered with higher GSMs which makes for a thicker and more absorbent fabric. The jersey I bought was so thin.. I don’t really like it for a diaper, TBH. So I kept 2 yards of the light teal into a blanket instead of cutting it into diapers. You can find thicker jersey. Always look at the GSMs for it! The higher the better when it comes to jersey material. Natures has a huge selection of bamboo French Terry. I was impressed to see how high the GSMs on their fabric go up to! Higher price point though
I will definitely going to order some of the bamboo stretchy french terry. I was just wondering wich of the two was the best one to buy for absorbency. I have a toddler that is a heavy wetter at night and this stretchy flat would help. Thank you so much! 💞
This is a wondeful video thank you so much for the good info and i love it was to the point when i just had some questions

I realize I am quite randomly asking but does anybody know of a good place to stream newly released series online?

Nice simplified explanation. I love that aqua color!

Does the hemp or bamboo stretch french terry curl at the ends? Any way to prevent that from happening?
I have a one year old and am pregnant with my second. I’ve been gathering information about cloth diapering and was wondering if flats could be use as inserts for pocket diapers??
Yes! That’s my favorite combo & go-to system 💖
When prepping the fabric does it need to go in the dryer?
No.
Do you wash 3Xs on high heat? What is your water temperature preference for this fabric?
Yes, I do use hot water for prepping. There’s debate if that’s even necessary lol, but that is what I like doing for prepping
Could you do this with muslin? I have a bunch of these blankets and would love to repurpose.
I love muslin for flats!

Do i have to get bamboo ft or can i get regular ft? I didn’t know if the bamboo is safer for the skin

You mention some fabrics holding 20+ oz. which fabrics have you found to hold that much?
I remember watching a video where someone was absorbency testing and she got 27oz out of a diaper but that had to have been in 2018 and I cannot find it. @@JaysNest awesome. Thank you so much for the info. I am not in that group, but would love to be
Is there a specific dye you recommend?
Companies I like:
Dharma Trading Co
Grateful Dyes
Pro chemical and Dye
Look for Procion Fiber Reactive Dyes
Do they need to wear a cover over the diaper ?
Yes, the cover is essential. It provides the diaper with waterproofing
What GSM do you recommend?
260+ is a great average gsm.
300-350 is really absorbent
500+ is super absorbent but also very very thick.
What is the difference between bamboo jersey and bamboo stretch french terry?
Jersey is a smooth fabric on both sides. French Terry has one smooth side and one looped side. The weave of the fabric is looped.
French Terry is often offered with higher GSMs which makes for a thicker and more absorbent fabric.

Yeah if you need more absorbency definitely go with bamboo FT. It’s my favorite for stretchy flats. You get a better deal for the absorbency, too.
Think I could make some from a used jersey flat sheet I found at a thrift store??
