For anyone interested in buying these. Yes, they are worth it. Only horrible thing on it are the stock shocks but otherwise thryve worked great. Never missed a beat. People treat crawler transmissions as if thry are 8s xmaxx transmissions. Hell most run just a small brushed motor. It isnt going to strip. And i have extremely heavy rigs as all the bodies are 3d printed with functioning canopies and all to the point where they make the stock stiff shocks too soft on full compression. People shit on them purely because of the price. And if a part breaks, just chuck a scx10 version in and give it a upgrade. The crawling community has become way too snobby
How would it handle a pre runner build? I’m thinking of using one for twin I beam conversion and swapping in a brushless sidewinder 3 setup. RWD only. Would it handle it do you think?
@@icebox829 I mean I can tell you the trans will most definitely not hold up. But the diffs and everything will. With some better suspension and a cheap all metal trans it's like any other scx 10 and far cheaper
In regards to the negative caster, I compared the front differential housing to a real AR44, they are identical. The caster issue is due to the links being an improper lenght. The axle that came with this kit has almost no play but missing the output bearings for the CV axles. Plastic gears in the trans was disappointing. Overall not bad but not for $120 taxed / shipped (this one came with knockoff Hyrax)...or $100. More like $50. The DS were literally Loctited in place, had to use heat to remove them along with the set screws. EDIT: Forgot about the shocks, holds oil just fine but gritty and clunky. Can be used for mock ups. Not totally garbage IMHO...though I personally wouldn't use them.
This chassis is really cheap like only 70 right now, if i wanted to buy it just as a basher because its so cheap and not do any crawling would it be fine stock? Thank you!
Has some issues, but it all seems to be things that people replace with after market parts anyway. The biggest issue is that gearbox. But again, something you'd upgrade on the real one anyway 😅
I saw these on eBay a little while ago and it looked like a clone to my untrained eye , I'm rough on anything with 4 wheels and love to modify with steel as well haha , I'm so glad you posted this thank you so much
I noticed the panhard mount on the axle is on the other side than the Axial and the steering link is also on the wrong side... I typically don't take a chance with these Chinese knockoffs. It seems that its always better to just support the real deal companies and enjoy a well built product. Good luck with it.
@@brianlongto866 I just looked and its an aluminum locker inside of a plastic housing. The ring gear screws to the plastic housing with 4 tiny phillips head screws. The axles fit loosely inside the locker. Not a good setup at all!
@@oddsandendsrc thank you for taking your time to check for me it's very appreciated. If I throw a scx10 skid and transmission I have already do you think it would be worth it for a 7 year old

Thank you. This is really a great comparison and review. I pulled the trigger on one of these to try out. It seems like it is very cheap plastic...so really curious on how it holds out.
@@oddsandendsrc Yes. This is definitely not a basher. I think it would be ok as a trail RC. I plan to work on a budget Jeep mostly for shelf display. Hope it doesn't fall apart..lol.
4 link only works if the servo is mounted on the axle. A 3 link and a panhard = no bump steer. This is why a new scx10 ii comes with a 3 link up front. I fix it and explain it in the next video.
In the Axles, there's a big fundamental difference.... Axial uses Helical Cut Diff Gears and a high Pinion. These have Straight Cut Gears, and the Pinion Gear is Centered!! It's just a small version of the SCX10 One Axles! 😖 I would actually get one - but replace the whole Transmission. I'm a Disabled Veteran, and just can't really afford much of anything! 😞 Haven't been able to get a new Rig in over 6 years. Can't even afford this, but I've got enough spare parts to make it work.... Carmine ✈🚂🚙
Yes, I was disappointed with the axles, tranny, oversized links, and no track bar. I know you get what you pay for, but I was hoping for a little more.
7 months on, mine is ready for a rebuild after only a few runs, front axle needs replacing - everything is loose, ends may fall off at any moment 😂 Center drive shafts fall apart. Shock towers are brittle. Shocks are rough as. Stock rims are flimsy. If i could do it all over again, i would have gotten the Axial SCX10 ii builder's kit instead 😅
I only ran it for 10 minutes or so, I didn't break anything but the shocks were horrible. It had bad bump steer before I added a panhard setup. All the oil leaked out of 3 of the shocks when it sat on the shelf. I have been upgrading everything in newer videos, the only Austar part left is the frame rails! Lol
I bought this 1yr ago at 100 bucks it's not to bad the only thing I replaced on mine is the drive shaft broke and the shocks made them internal, now it's what all the kids drive instead of my good ones.not Worth putting money into it. Buy the RedCat's Gen 8 Pak chassis way better
Thanks for this video, exactly what I have been looking for. You have convinced me that these are better off avoided. I have been considering one for a while now but I think I'll go for the Axial raw kit. Thanks !
Remo hobby 1093 is a way better starting platform. Good oil shocks, all metal gears, metal links, redcat Everest axles, 550 motor. Way better than this one.
If it has a chassis mounted servo with no track bar, it will have bump steer, like this has. If it has a axle mounted servo, a 4 link is ok and it wont have bump steer. To work correctly, it needs a 3 link front with a track bar, like a scx10 ii. I will be doing a upcoming video on adding the track bar.

They increased the price of this chassis. I got mine for $150. Basically following your build of the chassis. Doing the track bar setup like you did.
