Good comparison video. Shows clearly why too much out of focus can be distracting and why shallowest depth of field isn't always desirable. GH5 footage definitely more pleasing in this context.
Loved the comparison side by side. Really like the cinematic styled shot the S1h produces, but for my personal needs the GH5 is the clear winner.
Interesting. Of course the FF 50mm f1.4 has the better bookeh and can much better blow out the background. But you wouldnt want to frame this particular scenery with such a blurry background, that is why the Gh5 clip is much more pleasing to the eye. At least to my eyes.
that neck scene was so cringy hahaha
indeed hhh

Good test!
excellent tests-very helpful, thanks, I shall get a 1.2 for my Gh5!
Thank you for that! That was very interesting to see.
On the shots of this video, he could have matched the DOF by setting the 50mm to f2.8-4. Rise the ISO on that full frame and you won't notice a difference. Bigger sensors than MFT or S35 offers different possibilities. For example Bong Joon-Ho's Parasite was shot on ARRI Alexa 65mm to get that wide look without the distortion of wide angle lens.
The way I see it, FF offers better possibilities in the long run. Lenses for same FOV are cheaper, especially when you build a vintage set of lenses. For example a standard lens for S35 could be a 35mm while for FF is 50mm. Try getting a cheap good vintage 35mm 1.4/2 (Contax, Leica, Canon FD) and compare that to a widely available 50mm vintage lenses of all flavours. And about vintage wide angles there is plenty of good and not expensive 28mm for FF while 18-21mm good vintage lens for S35 are expensive (Leica R 19mm 2.8, Contax 21mm 2.8...).
Still depends tho. Lumix S 50mm 1.8 is $400, while their MFT 25mm 1.4 featured in the video is $600. Regarding S35 and mft, there are always speedboosters thanks to the world of mirrorless cameras!
@@zaymax_7 the S5 II has PDAF. Hard to justify going to a M43 sensor...
I'm the only one thinking the gh5 looks bether?
No.
LEICA DG SUMMILUX 25mm F1.4 won this test!
Very nice test, you need to add the price difference :)
try use f2.8 on LUMIX S PRO 50mm F1.4,
I love gh5 dof.
With full frame you never film below 2.8 which is exactly the bokee a mft at 1,4 gives you
The image quality is pretty much identical except dof.
if use f1.4 insted f.17 for fullframe cam what would be the result?
Even though the S1H was at a disadvantage (ISO320 - 1 stop less highlight DR in V-Log) it still blows the GH5 away in terms of dynamic range. The GH5 clips in every second shot.
According to CInema5D the S1H has almost three stops more dynamic range - so it kinda makes sense.
Can you link the article that claims s1h has 3 more stops of dr?

gh5 still the beast
S1H like my render on lumion :D
No neck please. That was disturbing.
Pretty unfair to campare a 2500$ lens with a 500$ one. Don´t matters the camera your´re comparing a 5 times more expensive lens will make the diference, but I can understand you´re only comparing the bokeh quality so it justifies a bit the comparation. Very nice video also!
damn i got such bokeh on 5d mark2 10 years ago!)
Difference in DR is very noticeable.
really, they are pretty much same here.
@@nightdonutstudio 2:56 there the difference is clipped highlights vs perfect highlights
GH5 is more like the film the TV contents. S1H just like for movies only.
Most cinema productions have been (and are still) shot with sensors/film of a size pretty much in the middle between full frame (SH1) and micro four thirds (GH5). And most cinema lenses are being used at narrower apertures than 1.4.
So the look of the GH5 in this video (regarding to depth of field) ist much closer to what we see in most feature films...
GH5 clear winner, more cinematic! S1H good for shots! The Summilux 1.4 has a tone of chromatic aberration,,,what is going on here?
G H 5 the. best
Good test!
