- On February 26, 1983, Queen Elizabeth II landed on San Diego's shores aboard Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia. The Queen of the United Kingdom and Prince Philip had a full schedule while in town. On the rainy day itinerary: The USS Ranger, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Old Globe, the San Diego Zoo, and dinner on her yacht. Since hearing about the Queen passing, I been having memories of when I went down to San Diego to see the Queen. At that time I was a military wife living in Oceanside. My daughter was nearly a month old then, and I considered it "baby's first outing." My best friend at the time and I decorated our babies strollers with American and British flags and set off. Mind, none of us got anywhere near the Queen, but we could see her from where we stood in the crowd. I was just happy to be part of the historic experience! After the parade, we all went out to tea at a tea shop that used to be up in Carlsbad, CA. Looking back, I have to laugh because I was such an Anglophile back then. Some of it could be genetic, I am about 8% British according to my ancestry DNA test. So nice to see this video and relive that experience again after all that time. May Queen Elizabeth II rest in peace.

Loud, obnoxious whistling is considered a jeer or a boo everywhere else in the world. You can see a look of mild alarm in Her Majesty's expression when she stepped off her yacht and was greeted by several horrible whistles. It is uncouth and makes the recipient sad. Cut it out, rednecks. ;)
