Typically after killing the enemy best practice to back as soon as you see them zipping in, its common for enemies to get aggressive in this situation. 6. Importance of not abandoning the lane and giving the enemy a free tower/walker if avoidable

I'm still figuring out how soldier aggro works. It seems like it is still easy to take soldier dmg when the lane is pushed towards your tower, which is another reason it feels good to push your lane instead of pull. Also, pushing seems to give you a bit more downtime to go back and buy at shop. And if you get an early tower, you deny their forward shop which is more impactful than it might seem, since it denies them those spikes from picking up quick 500 soul items. The biggest difficulty I have with pushing instead of pulling is ammo management, since the person who is only last hitting and denying will have more ammo to spare at the right moments, so they hypothetically should get ahead in hero harass and last hitting. But it seems like the pressure from being pushed under your own tower counters this somewhat. I've been playing a lot of mo, who has a shotgun and I find that focusing on denials and going for melees is great and then applying pressure on the enemies where possible. I find that when I'm playing in the solo lane specifically, I MUST be playing super aggressively as mo or I will get absolutely pooped on. The closer to their tower the better, because the middle has all of the good cover options with a lot of angles and near the tower does not. If you are playing below the stairs and they are playing above, you can go for sneaky around the corner punches, or as mo, hit them with a silence and punish and then dig to dive them at low health if they don't fully retreat back to base. As for denials, remember than you can melee to deny souls as well, rather than just shooting, which is great if you are caught in a reload.
As far as soldier aggro, it seems to be based on position alone like towers are. If you are past your minions, you will be targeted. Could be more to it though, I am not totally sure. If you noticed in this vid, sliding is important because shooting while sliding doesn't consume ammo. So if you struggle with mag sizes, try and harass while sliding to extend your clip. Could also buy melee charge or active reload, but those are more expensive. I also sometimes use quicksilver reload, but for whatever reason it seems no one else does. Could just be bad stats on the item or something.
Thanks for this video I was told to hold minions on our side similar to how it is in other mobas, but I felt like for deadlock that actually wasn’t the play and it always worked better being the aggressor and pressuring the opponent
regarding the vitality vs weapon when ahead, in my experience an early extra regen can actually allow you to be even more aggressive and put more pressure on the enemy than a 500 weapon item, they never get any space. Obviously if you're always max health you don't need it, but if going up against any harass I've been controlling laning phase very well after picking that up, forcing the enemy to return to base (or getting the kill)
What about a video on losing gracefully? Here you can sustain pressure and push the wave to their tower because you have a decisive lead. What if it's more even? What if you're behind? These videos are super helpful for a goal to works towards.
Great guide. I did not know you could teleport into your thrown jacket with that character. I'll have to test him out. I tried him last night, but didn't know how to do any of his fancy maneuvers. Would be nice to see a mid game and late game guide as well if you don't have one, or a how to team fight guide. This guide should fix my transitioning into mid game problems though so thanks!
Good guide someone said it also i saw a many Videos of this type everyone saying stuff i know from other Mobas ure talking about more specific stuff very good. I dont need an push wave poke enemys guide. And honestly some here are like ohh top 0.1% but im always like ahh an Deathy video this guy is really good at this game.
Thx lot it was very informative and easy to understand! Btw I am quite confident with laning phase but struggling in midgames. I win the lane quite often but find myself falling behind in growth after 15-20 minutes mark. Any guide in future regarding mid gameplay would be appreciated! keep up the nice work :)
The format you follow in this video - Topics finished with a quick commentary - is perfect. One point of feedback is to maybe add some text to the screen when you're in an enemy POV? May be a me problem
thanks for the guides deathy. appreciate all the knowledge your spreading to the new players coming to the game. It would be awesome to see a video on how to deal with tanks/sustain in games. i find myself winning most of my laning phase and even roaming pressure in mid game. however, at min 20 the enemies come online and i find them unkillable sometimes. anti heal and curse isnt enough, and im clueless what else is there. If im playing someone with alot of sustain dps and lifesteal then its fine, but curious to know what if im not.
I think you neglected probably the most important part of leaning; wave management and when to gank. Also you didn't mention monster rounds which is a great way to shift momentum if you're being overly pushed in, or want to aggressively keep them under tower and roam
This was actually very helpful man, very good guide. Maybe the only mistake I feel like was that when u spoke about Ganking I feel as if it should be stated more that your tips were specific for duo laning and not a solo lane. (Unless im wrong? And it is?) But I cant see rotating like that in a solo lane, maybe only after destroying the tower and shoving the lane in? Maybe u did say it and I didnt notice. Im not sure other than that great video man keep it up
Really great video. Been trying to learn with my friend and been doing most of this but didn't know how important health creeps were. My main issue is what to do after this phase of the game so I'll check out your other videos. Saw you have a Shiv build so definitely will check it out.
How to win every lane: -left click on your opponents and creeps -there are 2 different lanes, solos and duos -there are 3 different lane scenarios: winning, losing and neutral -it is better to buy weapon items because everyone does it like that idk why -if you die or destroy the enemy tower you can gank ally losing lane -if you are winning the lane buy win more items and if you are losing buy sustain
Spirt items scale insanely well is what I realized, every character uses a bit of both bullet and spirit but the gains you get from some of the spirit items are ridiculous lol
Some of this was pretty profound to me, definitely all helpful, thanks a ton. I see who you play, but I’d love to see what you are able to do with McGinnis. I’m getting better with her but still struggling to keep up
I learned about buying weapon items early and ive been dominating ever since. Just buy weapons every $500, heroes with self sustain like Lash w/ Flog, or Viscous Cube seem to catch people out, you outpace their damage and sustain like a champ.
an idea from high elo korean league is to itemize lane the opposite for matchups. if you have a winning matchup, no need to buy more instant power, go for greedier items. if you lose lane, look for as much damage as possible to try to enable more potent roams. unless a healing rite really saves a sinking ship then it might be worrh
This game is rly different itemisation wise because the 500 items are actually so much stronger relatively than the doran items in LoL for instance. You also keep them the entire game most of the time. In higher ranked games, they finish before 30 mins and you won't have more than 35-40k souls by that point on average, so they're just really handy to have. Tier 4 items have good actives for the most part but for some of them the stats are similar to the 500s which is pretty funny lol I mostly see people opt for gun items since the gun is better early for almost all characters. Spirit scales super well but is kinda meh if you get it early.
@@lukkkasz323 i mean dopa talked about it on huya in 2015 so i'm giving them credit unless you know of other people doing it earlier. also your example is kinda the opposite of what i'm talking about so it seems like maybe you didn't really get what i meant.
@@odonah He means the side that is losing does that maybe? That or if you win early greed to win harder and take someone out of the game so more immediate snowball.
to anybody new watching this, the advice at 2:28 is no longer true. firing on enemy players under tower causes it to draw aggro to you instantly like in dota, as of a recent patch
Hey, great video thanks :). As a little bit of feedback for the video it was a little bit confusing when you switched from your POV to your opponents' POV while still talking about yourself and your teammate. Maybe a little overlay showing that you are spectating someone else could help.
Amazing video, I was always league brained of wanting to freeze minions under my tower but there truly isn't a point since towers never do a lot of damage, and they don't aggro on enemies when creeps are there, No dedicated jungle so yeah Perma pushing really is the play. How do you feel about turrets as they are now? I feel like they need a huge buff to be more respected
Generally i always pick up scavenge ammo on most heros because it gives a huge spirit boost in laning phase which makes harassment from my abilities stronger. Also the idea of winning your lane and going to other lands isnt a good thing because it drastically reduces the amount of souls you're getting due to it splitting at worse rates sub 10 minutes so you really don't want to do that before laning phase ends
Very good guide. Would you mind going over some ideas on playing from losing positions? How to outplay or harass when your lane is pushed in and they're pressuring you at tower.
Finally what I was looking for. I kinda realized that getting preassure early is essential, but always fail to do so with Yamato. Also, could you do a Macro guide on Mid-Late game?
Yeah my bad, something seems to have gone wrong exporting. Fixing it right now, but the video will be weird for the next hours because RUclips. Sorry all
Thanks for the video. Would be cool to hear your ideas on support characters and what that role looks like in Deadlock. For example, I play Mo & Krill with tankiness and disruption with active items in mind. Am I helping or hurting the team by foregoing damage focused items? The answer is probably variable, but it would still be interesting to hear your perspective.
A very good guide. But you still missed some points like where to position yourself. How to position yourself with different Heros and I see no body mentions how to play around MID boss. But overall, a solid video. You earned yourself SUB!
Hey man, a jungle path/farm would be really nice if you can. Sometimes it's better to rotate cleaning the jungle or it's just straigh out dangerous to show up in the lanes.
Read this to save 14 mins of your life Push the wave towards the enemy tower. This will put pressure on them and make it easier for you to get kills. Deny creeps whenever possible. This will help you to maintain a creep advantage and make it harder for the enemy to farm. Gank other lanes when you have the opportunity. This will help you to secure kills and objectives, and put pressure on the enemy team.
Any other thoughts on duo lanes, specifically about whether or not roles or specific mindsets exist in deadlock? coming from dota 2 (but also applies to league), i'm used to lane roles and playing support. Spamming viscous atm and doing quite well but i'm still very lost in laning phase. Do you think duo lanes are different in any way than solo in this regard? should one person harass more and one person cs more or what? :) Appreciating the more advanced video though, please keep it up!
I was Ivy and up against a cracked pucket in a solo lane. I prevuously had DotA experience and applied that "close to tower farming = good". Could not even compete with the Pucket. Man was last hitting creeps with melee behind the stairs. I'mma have to try this next. I have to start melee-ing creeps because I have no chance to follow up shot the floating soul orbs.
Any advice on losing match ups or how to catch up when you get out pressured in laning phase? I feel like it's not too hard to keep an advantage once you have it but i struggle when they gain the advantage so a video on those situations would be cool. Thanks!
I always will ask my team to lane switch if my matchup is leaving me behind. Especially if you’re on a solo lane, you can get a teammate to come over and gank your solo fight and then make the switch. Mid-game is where the real eco starts, and it’s possible to comeback from a huge deficit if you pick your fights and farm your jungle.
Ganks and jungle are a way out of this situation. Keep playing safe and farming jungle and creeps where you can. Then wait for that team fight where you can get ahead.
I think it’s probably best to not take the tower so early, since it gives them time to just sit back and catch up on farm. Leaving the guardian up but low for a bit gives you time to gank other lanes and come back to pressure them and push the wave again.
@@Deathy That makes sense. I’m coming from LoL so leaving tower up is usually more beneficial because you get to control the waves and deny enemy from walking up and getting xp and gold. This is a much faster paced game so I see what you mean. Also gives you a flex slot faster if you can take all guardians.
I found letting there minions bounce back has worked for me when I'm very far ahead and they don't have much wave pressure. But I tried freezing a lot with very little success. I notice your head hides behind creeps if you are on the stairs and they have to last hit in the open if they want to melee when you push.
I really liked this guide! One thing I will say as a MOBA noob, when you say a lane is "pushed up", that term seems ambiguous to me. Does it mean pushed back to our sentry, or pushed forward to the enemy sentry? I think from context it means pushed back to our sentry, but it doesn't immediately make sense to me.
Please cover what to do when you're losing lane or playing a character that just doesn't lane well. Like if you have slow projectile speed, or you're squishy, or you can't melee creeps without two long range heroes lighting you up from opposite directions. Some heroes can just deny constantly so I have to get close, and it sometimes just seems impossible to get close without taking all of my health, so I try to play under tower but still can't even clear my wave because they might be chucking bombs at me constantly and headshotting me any chance they get.
My question with this tutorial as well as any other laning guide - how do you come back from a disadvantage? It feels like if enemy has one better wave, they suddenly now have an item AND they're closer to your tower, leading to more and more snowballing until eventually you and your tower are getting melted from every direction What do you do here? For example if you're the enemy Kelvin or Warden, what should you do to become even again?
Is there any reason why MOST Paradox builds prioritize getting the time shot over the grenade as the first skill when the grenade would CLEARLY help more in the first wave? Like landing a shot is such low chip damage while pressuring the wave seems WAY more valuable. When you get you second ability you can grab the shot and pressure them that way and upgrade it, but nade first seems to be the play, according to this guide at least.
@@Deathy would you make a video about what "the games intended pace" should be? Like time stamps for what's considered early game and where your creep score (souls gathered) should relatively be around or at, mid game etc.. Time stamps for jungle spawns, their locations, and respawn timers etc.. basically like an all-round beginners guide packed into one video? Would be a great source for info
For example, at 5 minutes maybe I should have half or most of my enemies first tower destroyed and I should maybe have 2k souls or something like that.
I have found success with healing minions or killing healer minions to set up large waves before mid fights or teamfights. Is this something which translates well into higher levels of play?
So at the start you say to push into tower during laning 'unlike other mobas', but then near the end you say/show exactly why this has major disadvantages. You get ganked easily (paradox pushing too far), and it's harder to get kills if they are under tower (like with Kevin) than if they have to retreat a long way to get to safety. Anyway, thanks for spreading this to make people easier to gank.
Of course, it's not all positive, but if you want to *win* your lane, you should be pushing. Yes, this opens you up to gank opportunities - but if your teammates are also pushing their wave and you're paying attention to the minimap, you can react accordingly.
@deathy Do high elo players also struggle to lane against bebop ? I Feel that this lane is so hard to manage with the 8 sec cooldown bomb spam with minion ! I can’t find a way to survive in this match up !?
question, with the game starting how does it determine lanes? and if knowing match ups and playing with a group is it worth swapping lanes at start for matchups + better solo players swapping with someone to duo instead?
Great intermediate level guide. I need more of these! Just a few small critiques. Avoid words like “they/them” and specify who exactly you mean (i.e. my team/their team) when calling things out. I found the ganking part of the video confusing because you kept saying things like, “when *they* are pushed up” and “go help *them*”, but you kept switching who you meant by they/them and it wasn’t always clear in context. Also, it wasn’t exactly clear who you were in the replay because you kept changing camera POVs, which also flipped the map view. Maintaining a consistent POV or adding some clear indicator when you are viewing from someone else’s POV would be helpful. Otherwise, great stuff!
For heroes like kelvin and ivy that pick up an early health nova rush, is that still viable if you have to solo lane on one of those heroes? Or should it be delayed till you group up?
There is one case in which I don't think it's a good idea to push to the guardian: laning versus Bebop. Getting grabbed by Bebop under his tower is very punitive. Do you agree?
I generally agree, I think if you can keep the wave pushed and stay behind cover constantly it can actually make things easier because you reduce their number of angles

@@rileybranting7099 it's also like of sight based, if the creeps dont have los on you, they will ignore you completely.
Remember: Your opponent is also watching this guide, so act accordingly.
Thanks for this video I was told to hold minions on our side similar to how it is in other mobas, but I felt like for deadlock that actually wasn’t the play and it always worked better being the aggressor and pressuring the opponent
There are some times where you should hold, but for newer players the default mindset should be pushing. Thanks for watching!
regarding the vitality vs weapon when ahead, in my experience an early extra regen can actually allow you to be even more aggressive and put more pressure on the enemy than a 500 weapon item, they never get any space. Obviously if you're always max health you don't need it, but if going up against any harass I've been controlling laning phase very well after picking that up, forcing the enemy to return to base (or getting the kill)
Yeah it's really situational, but you are right - sometimes some regen allows for more aggression
What about a video on losing gracefully? Here you can sustain pressure and push the wave to their tower because you have a decisive lead. What if it's more even? What if you're behind? These videos are super helpful for a goal to works towards.
Great guide, I enjoyed the more in depth look
Nice video! Perfect explanation 🙌🏻 keep it up, we want more uploads!!
Feel free to check out my video "How to get a lead in the mid-game" :) I think it'll help
best video on this game ive seen so far
Just want to say thanks. Your info has really helped my Yamato game. Feels good to finally get a hang of her with your landing info
appreciate the content! i am learning a lot from your vids
This was actually very helpful man, very good guide.
Maybe the only mistake I feel like was that when u spoke about Ganking I feel as if it should be stated more that your tips were specific for duo laning and not a solo lane. (Unless im wrong? And it is?)
But I cant see rotating like that in a solo lane, maybe only after destroying the tower and shoving the lane in?
Maybe u did say it and I didnt notice. Im not sure other than that great video man keep it up
Really great video. Been trying to learn with my friend and been doing most of this but didn't know how important health creeps were. My main issue is what to do after this phase of the game so I'll check out your other videos. Saw you have a Shiv build so definitely will check it out.
Drinking game: Take a shot every time Deathy says “Generally speaking”
How to win every lane:
-left click on your opponents and creeps
-there are 2 different lanes, solos and duos
-there are 3 different lane scenarios: winning, losing and neutral
-it is better to buy weapon items because everyone does it like that idk why
-if you die or destroy the enemy tower you can gank ally losing lane
-if you are winning the lane buy win more items and if you are losing buy sustain
Spirt items scale insanely well is what I realized, every character uses a bit of both bullet and spirit but the gains you get from some of the spirit items are ridiculous lol
this guide is fkin sick! finaly person who knowsa how to explain things right for beginners!
Much love, thanks for watching
Some of this was pretty profound to me, definitely all helpful, thanks a ton.
I see who you play, but I’d love to see what you are able to do with McGinnis. I’m getting better with her but still struggling to keep up
I learned about buying weapon items early and ive been dominating ever since. Just buy weapons every $500, heroes with self sustain like Lash w/ Flog, or Viscous Cube seem to catch people out, you outpace their damage and sustain like a champ.
another top teir deathy video, waiting for that goated vindicta guide soon tm
masterclass absolutely amazing
an idea from high elo korean league is to itemize lane the opposite for matchups. if you have a winning matchup, no need to buy more instant power, go for greedier items. if you lose lane, look for as much damage as possible to try to enable more potent roams. unless a healing rite really saves a sinking ship then it might be worrh
Tier 4 items have good actives for the most part but for some of them the stats are similar to the 500s which is pretty funny lol
I mostly see people opt for gun items since the gun is better early for almost all characters. Spirit scales super well but is kinda meh if you get it early.
that's def not a high elo korean idea, it's normal in League to buy more healing potions or even double Dorans to not let yourself be pressured.
@@lukkkasz323 i mean dopa talked about it on huya in 2015 so i'm giving them credit unless you know of other people doing it earlier. also your example is kinda the opposite of what i'm talking about so it seems like maybe you didn't really get what i meant.
@@odonah health potions, dorans = instant power
@@odonah He means the side that is losing does that maybe? That or if you win early greed to win harder and take someone out of the game so more immediate snowball.
the very first concept you mentioned of push is similar to other mobas, at least league. they can’t trade into your wave
This is a brilliant guide!
to anybody new watching this, the advice at 2:28 is no longer true. firing on enemy players under tower causes it to draw aggro to you instantly like in dota, as of a recent patch
Hey, great video thanks :). As a little bit of feedback for the video it was a little bit confusing when you switched from your POV to your opponents' POV while still talking about yourself and your teammate. Maybe a little overlay showing that you are spectating someone else could help.
I subbed so make everything about deadlock im now your prodigy sensei
id love a guide on when to farm lane/ neutral mobs during mid game. I feel like thats when i always fall behind.
Generally speaking, its a nice vid, thanks
Also, could you do a Macro guide on Mid-Late game?
half your segments are cut, I think something went wrong in editing. It happened at 2:20 and 0:27
Yeah my bad, something seems to have gone wrong exporting. Fixing it right now, but the video will be weird for the next hours because RUclips. Sorry all
@@Deathy It's ok man I still enjoyed the guide.
Yeah that'll be a cool idea for sure! Will address it at some point. So much content to be made - so little time
A very good guide.
Read this to save 14 mins of your life
Push the wave towards the enemy tower.
Thanks!
Check minimap for ganking opportunities and go for them
Yah feels like if you lose momentum you're fucked
I always will ask my team to lane switch if my matchup is leaving me behind. Especially if you’re on a solo lane, you can get a teammate to come over and gank your solo fight and then make the switch. Mid-game is where the real eco starts, and it’s possible to comeback from a huge deficit if you pick your fights and farm your jungle.
lane switch, ask for ganks, go jungle
Ganks and jungle are a way out of this situation. Keep playing safe and farming jungle and creeps where you can. Then wait for that team fight where you can get ahead.
Thank you so much, learning to play this game has been so much fun
You're welcome! Have fun out there
I think it’s probably best to not take the tower so early, since it gives them time to just sit back and catch up on farm. Leaving the guardian up but low for a bit gives you time to gank other lanes and come back to pressure them and push the wave again.
Tower gives you souls, always take it, if you take every tower you'll be so far ahead of them it does not matter if they get to farm a few waves
@@Deathy That makes sense. I’m coming from LoL so leaving tower up is usually more beneficial because you get to control the waves and deny enemy from walking up and getting xp and gold. This is a much faster paced game so I see what you mean. Also gives you a flex slot faster if you can take all guardians.
great vid as always
Great guide thank you!
I’m gatekeeping u, way too underrated but ur def the best deadlock content creator atm
Love games like this I can finally leave apex 🙏🏽, new things to learn everyday.
Thanks for the video bud
Great video dude
Recently you posted a guide on freezing, saying it is a powerful tactic to win games. When do we freeze and when do we push?
you can have a nice mix of orange green and purple 500$ item in lane with regen on it as well and get a nice balanced build up to 9,8 hp/s
Your shiv build owns
1:37 me pulling out with the ferrari
You usually add "they're pushed up" or "I'm/we're pushed up" to indicate if you're closer to their tower or yours
pushing the wave into a bebbebop or lash gonna get u punish
Please cover what to do when you're losing lane or playing a character that just doesn't lane well. Like if you have slow projectile speed, or you're squishy, or you can't melee creeps without two long range heroes lighting you up from opposite directions. Some heroes can just deny constantly so I have to get close, and it sometimes just seems impossible to get close without taking all of my health, so I try to play under tower but still can't even clear my wave because they might be chucking bombs at me constantly and headshotting me any chance they get.
My question with this tutorial as well as any other laning guide - how do you come back from a disadvantage?
It feels like if enemy has one better wave, they suddenly now have an item AND they're closer to your tower, leading to more and more snowballing until eventually you and your tower are getting melted from every direction
What do you do here? For example if you're the enemy Kelvin or Warden, what should you do to become even again?
Is there any reason why MOST Paradox builds prioritize getting the time shot over the grenade as the first skill when the grenade would CLEARLY help more in the first wave? Like landing a shot is such low chip damage while pressuring the wave seems WAY more valuable. When you get you second ability you can grab the shot and pressure them that way and upgrade it, but nade first seems to be the play, according to this guide at least.
Good tip on the early melee confirms i was up 700 CS by 6 min
Love to hear it! Thanks for the support
Has the lane phase of the game changed significantly with the new patch like a week ago? I keep seeing videos about farming boxes and those gold urns.
Im assuming thats hydration from overwatch league, dude is nasty at everything
I have found success with healing minions or killing healer minions to set up large waves before mid fights or teamfights. Is this something which translates well into higher levels of play?
Is there a good place for me to study the map, for example knowing where the jump pads are? Or do I just gotta boot up the game and look around?
I need a bottom 0.01% laning guide.
THERE ARE JUMP PADS?!
if a deny opputrtunity occours but the enemy is half health , would you go for the deny or pressure to get extra hits while enemy last hits ?
@deathy Do high elo players also struggle to lane against bebop ? I Feel that this lane is so hard to manage with the 8 sec cooldown bomb spam with minion ! I can’t find a way to survive in this match up !?
can you do a character specific guides for itemizations on all 3 possible laning outcomes
question, with the game starting how does it determine lanes? and if knowing match ups and playing with a group is it worth swapping lanes at start for matchups + better solo players swapping with someone to duo instead?
It's random, but you get duo lanes more often with duos. Definitely worth swapping at the beginning or even after a gank.
Or should it be delayed till you group up?
great video
Glad you enjoyed it
There is one case in which I don't think it's a good idea to push to the guardian: laning versus Bebop. Getting grabbed by Bebop under his tower is very punitive. Do you agree?
I generally agree, I think if you can keep the wave pushed and stay behind cover constantly it can actually make things easier because you reduce their number of angles
