Singkil is known as One of the most difficult cultural dance in the Philippines and i teach singkil Four times with 4 flying colors 3 Champions and 1 1st placer both Elementary and High School division in Cultural Folkdance Competition in different part of NCR Philippines way back 2006-2011.... If you were all Filipinos performing this piece, its so really proud to see FilAm doing our native traditional dances and if you were all foreign or collab. You guys did a good job 2 thumbs up! God bless! :-)
I remembered dancing this in high school “linggo ng wika” folk dance contest, luckily we were not supposed to smile during the dance, we danced on an open sunny quadrangle barefooted where we can feel the heat on our feet....we won second place😁
I remember performing this when i was 6 years old... this being a part of our culture made it natural not to fear the bamboos and helped to focus on performance
the datu is scared! remember to always hear the rhyme of the bambo ther is two sound the 1st is the bamboo or kawayan touches the floor 2nd is when both of the bamboo or kawayan hit together but still salute to this new generation bringing our culture to other countries watching from Qatar # frontliner # houskeeping supervisor # mabuhay ang 3 star and a sun
Many times i saw this dance when i was in MSU- Marawi..its always been my favorite folkdance and everytime i watched cant help not to feel nervous for the dancers..😅
I feel the nervousness too. Maybe tradition should include celebrating the end of performance with Oxtail Kare-Kare, Bagoong, & rice. Let everyone taste our Filipino-Indonesian connection.
The datu- is looking down so he does not suffer ankle injury from the bamboo clapping. Sense of timings important like my mom says. I once wore a sarong & clapped too. Anyway, on internet I came across the Javanese town- namesake of the Singkil dance name. Southwest Java. Again, our cultures- dance, food, weaponry, music the same. An Indonesian female once mistook me for Indonesian😄
The Datu should not look down on the bamboo. His eyes should only focus on the princess. And the bamboo should always get faster and faster as the Princess walks on the bamboo
Sorry, but singkil word is maguindanon tribe, not maranao only in maranao Muslim they called it singkir, but they should not only represent the maranao tribes ,in Philippines but maguindanon specially

Thank you and noted 😊
Must be nervous. Agree, good performance overall.

Andro Antalan ...you mean the "rhythm" of the bamboo, not the rhyme, that is for poetry or written words

Grace under pressure must be the goal of this particular dance. I only see pressure though.

Sana po kayo nalang yung nag sayaw
Just appreciate it. Mga half sila. Baka 'di sila nakaranas ng matinding training ng 'singkil'. Pero atleast they tried, right?
lousy
Not so impressive. Most of them are looking down.
But atleast they tried.
