Abu'l Hasan Yaminuddin Khusro, better known as Amir Khusro (also Khusrau, Khusrow) Dehlavi, was the poet laureate of the Indian subcontinent and enjoys ever-lasting fame as one of the most versatile poets and prolific prose-writers of the 13th and 14th centuries. He is traditionally considered to be the founder of qawwali and lyrical poetry in Hindustani (Urdu), credited with enriching Hindustani classical music by introducing Persian and Arabic elements in it. The invention of the sitar and the musical styles known as khyal and tarana are also attributed to him. His poetical composition, the amalgamation of Persian and Hindi in particular, was aimed at cementing the bonds of culture and friendship between the Hindus and Muslims of India. He was an intellectual giant of many languages, with knowledge of Turkish, Arabic, Persian and the vernaculars of northern India - the Khariboli, (Urdu and Hindi both being developed forms of it), Braj Bhasha and Awadhi. It was during his stay in Awadh, Delhi and Punjab that he learned these northern languages. He also learned Sanskrit which he placed before all other languages, except Arabic, the language of his religion. Above all, he was a most dutiful and devoted mureed of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, the spiritual monarch of his day in the subcontinent.
ज़े हाले मिसकीं मकुन तग़ाफ़ुल दुराय नैना बनाय बतियाँ। कि ताबे-हिजरा न दारम् ऐ जां न लेहु काहे लगाय छतियाँ॥ मुझ ग़रीब मिस्कीन की हालत से यूँ बेख़बर मत बनो। आँखें मिलाते हो, आँखें चुराते हो और बातें बनाते हो। मेरी जान! जुदाई की ताब सहने का सामर्थ्य मुझमें नहीं है। मुझे अपने सीने से क्यों नहीं लगा लेते! शबाने-हिजराँ दराज़ चूं ज़ुल्फ़ो- रोज़े वसलत चूं उम्र कोताह। सखी पिया को जो मैं न देखूँ तो कैसे काटूँ अँधेरी रतियाँ॥ जुदाई की रातें ज़ुल्फ़ की तरह लंबी हैं और मिलन के दिन ज़िदगी की तरह छोटे हैं। हे सखी! मैं यदि अपने पिया को न देखूँ तो डरावनी व अँधेरी रातें कैसे कटे! यकायक अज़दिल दो चश्म जादू बसद फ़रेबम बुबुर्द तसकी। किसे पड़ी है जो जा सुनावे पियारे पी को हमारी बतियाँ॥ जादू भरी इन दोनों आँखों ने अचानक सैकड़ों बहानों से मेरा धैर्य छीन लिया है। किसके पास वक़्त है या किसे पड़ी है जो जाकर पिया को मेरी बाते बताए चु शमअ सोज़ा चु ज़र्रा हैरां ज़े मेहरे आंमह बगश्तम् आख़िर। न नींद नैनां न अंग चैना न आप आवें न भेजें पतियां॥ मैं शमाँ की तरह जल रहा हूँ और ज़र्रे की तरह हैरान हूँ, आख़िरकार मैं उस बुत (कठोर दिल) की मोहब्बत में गिरफ़्तार हो गया हूँ। मेरी आँखों में ना नींद है और ना दिल को चैन है। और मेरा प्रिय इतना निष्ठुर है कि ना तो आप आता है और ना ही चिट्ठियाँ ही भेजता है। ब हक्क़े रोज़े-विसाले दिलवर कि दाद मारा फ़रेब ख़ुसरो। सो पीत मन की दुराय राखों जो जान पाऊँ पिया की घतियां॥ मिलन वाले दिनों की क़सम, मेरे महबूब ने मेरे साथ फ़रेब किया है। मैं अपनी प्रीत को अपने दिल में दबाकर रखती अगर मैं जानती कि मेरे महबूब से मुझे फ़रेब मिलेगा।

This series should be watched by every Indian. One of the gem of ancient India. People like Amir Khusro had laid the foundation of current democratic and secular India that was shattered by the foriegn invaders. A light in the darkness!
He definitely did not lay the foundation of a secular, democratic India.. He was secular sure but the foundations were laid way earlier and that is why the persecuted Parsees and Jews came to seek refuge here.. People even went from India to protect the grandson of Muhammad...

Nikhil Gupta only few chapters are NOW not accurate as Aryan theory has always had speculations about origin. But starting from Mauryan empire, it’s pretty much spot on. I just love how they covered South Indian kingdoms in details.

Kedar, not Hamir; Raag Hamir of Hindustani Music is a different melody. But that's a small detail, the rendition is beautiful
