I don’t think CSM necessarily needs to have a high fashioned visual style to be visually appealing for me atleast, it having a more trigger esc aesthetic to it would benefit it and look visually amazing , but I think mappa can handle the blend fairly well when it gets more lighthearted and wacky. Tbh I’m looking forward to the dark and despair ridden tone the show is currently going for. and I’m a bit worried as well about the public perception of denji , defintely has to do with how fujimoto writes his stories, but people are gonna see denji as just a sexual deviant for a while , even in the earlier chapters he has a lot of key character moments that might get glossed over heavily due to his overall personality💀 unless mappa expands some scenes for him here and there as they’ve stated
that's fair! I think it def looks great, but I think it would benefit from that classic Gurren Lagann-esque aesthetic. but I def get the appeal of what they're going for
This is all fair, ep 1 has had crazy reviews from What I read from the NYC screening and also mentioned of the “film look”. Can only hope the presentation can match the vibe especially with the incoming reception.
I like watching your essays, because you go into a kind of topic that's hard for me to consider: The Relationship aspect. I cannot ever care about this on my own, but when you delve into it, I melt and take in every word like it's some kind of treat. It breaks my barrier somehow. This reaction is consistent across all your videos. And the fact that you called Chainsaw Man adorable, I'm not sure how many other people will come to that conclusion (I haven't read CSM). Honestly, make videos about whatever you want, and I'll watch them.
As someone who doesn't have the best media literacy, it's awesome imo to see others express themselves in many different ways.(video essays, reviews, fanworks, etc.) So, it's good to see others (and you) express that way. . . . . . . . . . Also, when are you playing Danganronpa 1? /j
Looking forward to watching it tomorrow. I’m scared and worried that it’s gonna be bad but I still have high hopes for this anime. We’ll see what happens.
I think the style that Mappa is using for the anime isn't one that is dark, but one that is realistic (I would use the cinematography words you did but I don't think I would use them properly). I often found that art depicted with a more realistic color pallet is often conflated with dreariness and darkness, as that is when it is most often used, as well as the idea that "realistic settings work in opposition to fantasy, so fantastical ideas (and therefore bright colors) cannot be present in said setting". I do believe that even with the somewhat muted look of the CSM anime, in it's brighter and calmer moments it won't feel dreary, just "real". Or my extreme Chainsaw Man bias is not allowing me to think anything is wrong with the anime, who knows
well, that begs the question: should csm BE realistic? sure, the emotions are human, the relationships are real, and the dialouge is natural. but is realism the best way to depict this manga in the same way that the best ways to depict superhero comis is thru realism (man of steel, the winter soldier, etc)? idk if I would agree with that tbh lmaoooo
I still believe the people that animated monogatari series shaft could pull it off
