Memorable scenes of The Sopranos TV Series. It was more than 2 years when James Gandolfini passed away. I miss The Sopranos, I miss Tony Soprano, and I miss James Gandolfini so much.
Sometimes it's good to come back here, and watch his greatest scenes over and over again. He was a very talented and fascinating actor. I hope these videos help to keep his memory
alive.

The scene really shows how skilful a manipulator Tony is. He lets Junior feel the joy and relief of being boss before he tells him what the price is. Like how a sales guys would do it. In Junior's head he's already the boss, he's not going to say no and lose that feeling.
very nice
The funny thing is, his head is the only place he was boss. Tony manipulated him into letting him take over AND pay him for it.
I also like that the answer to "you speak for the captains?" Was "I can" rather than "I do". As in, this isn't a group decision and Tony's delivering the message, he's basically quietly saying "this is my decision and everyone else will be going along with it"

EXPLANATION TO ALL NON SOPRANO FANS: Junior is so concentrated and centered on being boss that tony uses it to his advantage. Tony never wanted to give junior power. By appeasing junior with boss entitlement, tony asks for the rights to the paving union and the bloomfield deals and gets it. although junior gets the label of "boss". secretly tony has the power and is the one in control. Plus by not being the don, tony gets to work freely and receive less heat by the fbi. strategical masterpeice
Zack Rose Yeah but think about it, the FBI is smart enough to know that that was a possibility, Tony being secretly the boss, so they look at him too.
Plus agent Harris worked with Tony.
Problem I see with it is that the guys are having to kick up twice. Once to Junior and once to Tony. Eventually that became a moot point because Tony became street boss and Tony let him keep 5/7.5% tribute. But I would think the double kick up wouldve made everyone upset. Especially guys like Paulie. The only way around that is if Tony accepted less tribute than what Jackie received to keep up the facade of Junior being boss.
@@StuUngar I doubt there would of been a double kick up. Way too easy for junior to find out and an instant death for Tony, likely why he asked for Bloomfield and the Union. Likely two extremely lucrative rackets now controlled by Tony.
@@josecarranza7555 The move initially fooled the FBI. At the end of season one it shows the faces of the Soprano family pinned on a bulletin board and it listed Junior as boss and Tony as street boss. In a later season after Junior is arrested the FBI figures out what was really going on.
@@josecarranza7555 in season 2 Tony tells Bobby that even if the FBI hears differently, it creates confusion.
When they hugged Junior whispered in his ear... "You still never had the makings of a varsity athlete."

😂😂😂😂😂
Tony would have shot him.
That's a good one!
And Junior never had the makings of a varsity mob boss!
Notice how Tony leans on June, puts his massive hands on his neck, literally engulfing it & squeezing his uncle's shoulder as he "asks" (demands) Bloomfield & the paving union. Huge power move. Subtleties in this show were astounding.
Yes Junior could feel how strong Tony is. Tony was scary. Explosive if need be.
@@lordoffaiyum9727 tony was a heavy guy and pretty good fighter till he fought someone his exact size ( Bobby Bacala)
Restaurant was Junior's I think, so no way Tony would explode and do something to him, but that embrace told us a lot about their pair dynamic. Tony was the one in charge.
That wasn't subtle..
@@franksends7851 nah man, Bobby snuck him to open the fight. And then Carm jumped in which distracted Tony when he had Bobby at disadvantage. His pride lost but honestly he didnt lose a fair fight.
I loved the scene where they're all standing around and Junior gives an order....and then one of the Captains asks Tony what he thinks. Junior gets pissed and says "What are you asking him for!?....I'm the boss!" Lol
I liked that scene too lol. Ray Curto (the captain) let it slip that they were really following Tony
Uncle junior is not an idiot he always knew, but by meeting with the captains behind his back Tony embarrassed him.
He says that throughout the whole series 😂, “I’m still the boss of this family”

His asking price should have been recognition from Uncle Jun that he had the makings of a varsity athlete.
No. Should have been to play catch with him.
Hahahahahahshahahahshahahahshshs yes maan hahahahaha good one
That’s a good one
But he never did 😕
Junior would have gone to war instead
This decision saved Tony a great deal of trouble. Feds spent their time chasing Junior, out of jail Richie would have immediately took to Junior's side if there was a conflict between the two capos.
Sociopath: 1; Narcissist 0.
Why is he a sociopath?
jack walsh www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html does this seem like someone?
Lol!!!
sportsfan 31 first of all he doesn’t check all of those boxes, but what I originally meant was how is he a sociopath in this scene
The original poster awakens. I wasn’t referring to this scene in particular, but to their personalities in general, and to how the sociopath won against the narcissist by using the narcissists weakness agains him. I call Junior a narcissist because his self esteem and sense of self worth is largely dependent on the reverence, deference and praise that other people supply. Without this supply he becomes a miserable black hole, as we see in later seasons. Tony knew how much Juniors ego craved the Boss title, and used this to his advantage by making Junior pay a high price for the “privilege”. I know you were not asking why I though Junior was a narcissist, but I throw that one in for free. So why is Tony a sociopath? I realize that the label Sociopath is a problematic one, as definitions change over time, etc, but going by the modern definition as “somebody with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD)”, he does tick many, if not all, “boxes”. The diagnosis does not require “100% box-tick”. But most telling traits are, that even even if he does have a conscience, which Tony clearly does, he persistently causes others harm and disregards the rights of others for personal gain without feeling guilty about it.
I really miss this Tony. He was so practical and patient with everything in earlier seasons. Then he turned into this giant rage machine who snaps at everyone and makes dumb decisions.
That's what years of therapy gets you.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown
That's what blue balls sat in front of Dr Melfi gets you 🙂
Because he saw what life at the top was like for a mobster and grew to despise it. That’s why he did dumb things like alienate his crew and make impulsive decisions.
@@bradleybrown8399 wtf is you talking bout?! its the exact opposite if a person take therapy serious instead of only using it to learn how to manipulate others. tony is just a psychopath with no real conscious.
When Tony puts his hand over his neck and whispers his "asking price" is genuinely chilling. We joke about it and love this character, but Tony is as dangerous as they come. He played the game brilliantly. Ruthlessly.
I love that , I always said that about this scene
How in less than a second the mood goes from excited and congratulatory to horrific
One of the smartest tings Tony ever did throughout the show.
It was, although it eventually blew up in his face once Livia opened her mouth about him and the other capos meeting behind Junior's back. The big mistake was having those secret meetings at Green Grove, didn't think that part through.
@@xbacongrizzler6929 actually meeting in green Grove was a smart move since the place was not bugged by fbi and juniors people are very less likely to spot them unlike meeting In a bar or one their places

Tony got that paving union for absolutely nothing!
And the casino on Bloomfield Ave.
Plus after Juniors in a nursing home, Sil's in a coma, Tony murdered Christopher, and Tony got killed in the restaraunt on the finale, Paulie likely took over the family and got those properties. They always said Paulie didn't have enough legit businesses.
James W when did tony get killed you think he gets killed dude came out the bathroom wich means nothing. People kill me with the tony got shot at the end no you want closure so you say he got killed
I agree. Chase said all the signs were there, whoever wants to figure it out. If you want Tony to die, you can find all the clues; if you don't want him to die, you can find ways to justify that option too. That's the brilliance of the ending. I wanted Melfi's rapist to die, I wanted to know if the Russian ever resurfaced, I wanted to know what ever became of the legal battle with Massive Genius, etc. So much in the series was left unresolved, and just because a man with a Members Only jacket looked over at the table before he went into the bathroom, doesn't mean closure. If you want it to, it can. But it's not irrefutable proof Tony was whacked. And certainly not if you examine the pattern of unresolved tendencies in the series.
people overthink this show too much, there were plenty of signs in the last season, Tony died.
Watching in 2020 and still miss this show! RIP James Gandolfini.
2022 and we still miss them.
This may be my very favorite scene in the show. The build up going into it with Tony and juniors last interaction, Jackie dying, then Chrissy shooting his mouth off that it was time for war. Then tony comes into this scene and makes Junior boss and it feels as if it came out of nowhere (of course melfi gave Tony the idea). The tension, the strategy, even the way junior and tony hug it out at the end and crack a few jokes you could tell despite all the shit they went through they really did love each other. This was the scene that really won me over when I first started watching. A much simpler time in the show and a lot happier tony. Never gets old either
This is what I love about the sopranos, it's widely appreciated and understand. After the show ended more than 10 years ago people still talk about how good it is, with the engaging details about the characters, scenes, intentions. You're the best guys

His negotiation tactics are extraordinary , first he comes in humble and sincere taking his time giving his uncle the good news , then comes the momet he made him happy about the news and he celebrates with him , after the new boss gets happy then comes the demands and happy boss is a generous boss..
I love the look on Junior when he tells him he wants it to be him. He looks like he's almost ready to cry, but doesn't. What a great actor.
These were the times Tony was so sharp. This is a strategical masterpiece for sure. A sociopath makes other one to think that he is in control and guess who gave this idea to Tony? Dr. Melfi. I miss this show so much.
The way Tony has his hand on his neck as they embrace is a complete power move! Basically says I could snap your neck if I wanted
this is the first decition of tony like a boss
RIP James. A great actor.
What's awesome about this scene is the fact that Tony was making all the decisions and Junior knew it was up to Tony on who would be boss, Junior even says "this is your decision?". I think junior knew deep down inside he was never the boss.
No, he was asking if this was Tony's decision or if he was being forced into it. "You speak for the captains?" as in...they've all decided and you agree? Uncle Junior would never have accepted a figurehead position. If he knew Tony was really in charge he would have gone to the mattresses rather than accept being a fake boss.
marc80s
Clearly you didn't understand what I was saying. If that's the case then why did Tony says my asking price is the unions. If Junior didn't give them up then there would have been a problem. All i said was deep down inside he probably knew he wasn't the real boss.
back atit
No, if Junior would have said "no" Tony would have lost face, like he says. When he tells Junior "I can't be seen to lose face" he meant he would look weak if Junior stepped past him to the leadership without giving Tony a bone. He wasn't telling Junior that if he didn't get the paving union, Junior wouldn't become boss.
marc80s
If Junior didn't give up the unions their would have been a problem.
Yeah but Tony Egg never had the makings of a varsity omelette.
The way he grabs him back of neck was the leadership play junior never understood. He announced how strong and powerful junior was out loud. Then manhandles him up close
I saw that
Forget the power play, forget the writing, forget the acting... I'm most impressed by the editing, the continuity on the shot/reverse shot when Junior takes a sip of coffee and folds his arms is flawless
“You speak for the captains?”
“I CAN”. not I do
Ie Tony assumes others will go along regardless
Boss level move
He had already spoken to the captains at this point
He already had their approval but did not want to make this obvious.
If he had said I do, then he would reveal that they already follow him and not junior. By saying he “can” he shows that they would follow him but are not necessarily already
Uncle June never had the makings of a Bloomfield Paving Union.
It would be nice if they would make a prequel of Sopranos.
With who? Actors get older not younger.. not to mention some of the cast are dead, retired or busy with other projects. As an idea sure it would've been nice (years ago, after it ended) but nowadays it would never work.. not even in theory.
"Apples and fuckin' bowling balls" to quote Phil. I don't see how it could work out, and if it does, I'm pretty sure it's going to be butchered and dumbed down, unless Chase is involved, which isn't likely. I don't think there will ever be another Sopranos project... as much as it bothers me to say it and people need to get over it.
Obviously you're talking about other actors than the ones who played them in the flashbacks, cause they're older too plus I don't think they're good enough to hold starring roles. Unless they looked strikingly similar to the original characters (and the original actors) I don't think most hardcore Sopranos fans would take it seriously.
Livia? I guess she could be the Carmela of the show, but I don't see it.. people would get tired of her shit, fast.
The thing is though, most important events have already been told by Tony (flashbacks, Livia's miscarriage, etc) so there's not much to go after here. Not to mention it'd be probably set in the 1960-70s which would skyrocket the budget required to catch the atmosphere of the time. Bottom like, it's not the worst idea in theory but I just can't see it working... especially now that the show's trend has dropped (Plus most people equate the Sopranos with Gandolfini)... well, unless Chase wanted.
ChemicallyImbalanced if a prequel does come out, the worst that can happen is that it will be overshadowed by the original show and not remembered. It won't take anything away from the original, but can possibly provide more quality entertainment like The Sopranos did.

Because he was the boss in all but name. Junior slowly started to understand this and then he got vengeful and bitter.
I love how Tony strings in out till he has Uncle Jun virtually chomping at the bit with anticipation.
Tony made him an offer he couldn't understand
Tony was a strategic genius. He made his uncle boss but only on paper. He got the money, the respect (what he always wanted) AND the heat from the law enforcement and other crime organizations. Christopher actually says how much it makes in one of the episodes cus he's pissed he didn't get it but i forget.
I think Tony was surprised that Junior agreed to giving him Bloomfield and the Paving Union.
He played it perfectly. He implied Junior is getting the spot without a fight, cooks up Junior's ego with the "think I'd mess with a guy like you? You been pumpin iron?" feel-good joking, then makes the ask by whispering in his ear while also making it reasonable with the "you know I can't be perceived to lose face right" justification.
If Junior balked at giving both, Tony would probably settle for one of them (based on the way negotiations usually work in the show). Aim high, settle for what you really wanted.
@@blaze4metal In a deleted scene, Tony must have read Donald Trump's "The Art of the Deal" because that's how the Donald was able to get the best deals, to negotiate as highly in your favor as possible.

oh thank God that someone writed this...i was asking someone to explain, could you? my english is not so good, what does that mean?
i supose its something like "i can't allow to be pussy" ?
It’s originally an Asian concept that eventually travelled into English. It’s about how a person is perceived by others; somebody is much more likely to do something they’d prefer not to do if it won’t make them look weak in the eyes of others.
The same basic concept can be found in lots of other contexts; Machiavelli counsels princes to take it into consideration in The Prince, and the ancient Romans practically made a religion out of cultivating positive public opinion.
Just imagine: Uncle Junior became boss, and didn't get wacked by Tony, just because of Dr Melfi and the book she recommended. And you can see it in his eyes, you can feel it. A lifetime of enduring crap, risking your neck and getting no respect, but in the end, the big prize. From Tony no less, that he resented so much. What an amazing show.

Great scene in all regards but the wildest aspect to consider is that Tony is actively deceiving and manipulating Junior at the same time as he promotes him. When people say Tony was calculating and smart, this is what they mean.
This is the moment we learned Tony was a genius and always saw the bigger picture. Closed minded guys like his uncle jr

Damn, what fine acting in this scene!
A lifetime of service to the demayo crime family and respect on the streets from new jersey to new york city is why corrado jr soprano was made the boss.
Junior got played hard
He might have but keep in mind that Junior always wanted to be boss and the perks of being a boss far outweighed the rackets he had to lose to get it.
The title alone came with a lot of perks. Too bad it was short lived, and Junior ended up on house arrest. It wasn't hard for Tony to take over the whole thing after that. But Junior was still taken care of, and still had money coming in. It was out of respect for the title
@@alexpreciado7532 And if you think about it, Junior giving Bloomfield and the Paving Union to Tony actually helped Tony financially while the rest of the capos were struggling to keep their money while giving Junior a cut.

what makes me laugh in this scene is when tony walks in, puts his hands up and declares he's come in 'heavy', the big goon at the bar stands up!! tony doesn't even acknowledge him........ same as when tony walks out after arguing with junior!!

If Tony had just made junior boss for real, junior would've gotten alzheimers in a few years anyways, and Tony would've avoided a lot of shit in the family, including his attempted assassination.
Too bad Tony couldn't see in the future
Tony played mob chess like Tiger Woods played golf in the amateurs . Dominated the other amateurs and could (and DID) hold his own with the big boys.
I remember when i first saw this episode. I though Tony was gonna pull a Corleone/Sollozo dinner scene.
Jackie was my favorite character in the show. I wish they would have done more with him even though he died.
Borko is the asking price.
I grew up in Bloomfield, so I always loved this scene.
My asking price - A new shinebox.
You’d think they were a power couple. lol
