I love that even though she DESTROYS Shira here she still upgrades her to the better table. Emily wasn't about to let Shira get away with how she treated Rory, but she still knows the rules of her social circle and is going to play by them, while still finding a way to cut a bitch. Pure class.

Yep, it's a power move. As someone familiar with that world, I can assure you that being a gracious hostess is vital to maintaining your reputation and influence. The rules are unspoken, but if you break them, you'll suffer a major loss in social points.
Shira was in over her head. Got hitched and thought she could skim over Emily Post and not stick out like a sore thumb. Nouveau riche without a pedigree.

Emily moves about the room like she owns it. And she does. She knows everything about everyone. She's also hella classy with boss moves. The way she upgraded her, tore her down in private, then walked away waving to some showed her dominance and superiority but she doesn't flaunt it. I love her.

What I love about Emily is that she refuses to let anyone believe that they’re better than her. If anyone tries to act superior, she’ll knock them down in the most tactful way possible. She was so quick to remind this woman that her wealth and her power comes from her husband and without him she is a nobody.

But when someone is snobbis as much as she is, and does the same thing to her and her family, oh that's a problem. Actually, I like what happened at Logan's. At least for one time someone treated their granddaughter the same way they (especially Emily) treated someone else's children and grandchildren, Luke, Christopher, Christopher's little daughter, Dean, Jess.... Emily was definitely the most interesting character, for me. Most of the time, I really liked her character, & actually felt sympathy for her. A lot of the time, I felt the way Lorelei to treat her was unfair. However, Emily did do some terrible things. Not long before this scene, she tried to break up Lorelei & Luke, because she thought of Luke as “less than”, & tried to set Lorelei up with Christopher.

While I love Emily in this scene, Shira wasn’t the real villain at that dinner. It was Logan’s grandpa who was the real a** and he’s the one who really needed to be told off. Mitchum was second with his fake offer to help Rory just to crush her and then Shira was third with her stuck up attitude ( when she doesn’t have money of her own and wouldn’t have anything at all if it weren’t for Mitchum).

Emily is a powerhouse in her own right and here she proved that, realistically, the Gilmores are a more powerful family than the Huntzbergers for a reason.
But if you guys think that Emily was an absolute savage to bimbo Shira (which she was). Then imagine what Trix would of had to say to the Huntzbergers if she were still around at this time.
