The chassis is the same as the Yaris, but the drivetrain is actually taken directly from the latest Corolla...and this is why the Xd is such a strong performer. Plus, because it has the Corolla drivetrain, the Yaris chasis, the reliability is much stronger than the lackluster under-powered Honda Fit, and ugly Nissan Versa.
What a shame it is. The Corolla had a few more horses (132), and that engine even reached 138-140 in the Corolla ECO and Corolla iM later on (but choked with tall geared six-speeds). Really the xD was as close to the Yaris TS 1.8 as sold in Europe as the U.S. could even get... minus any of the more pertinent chassis upgrades. Instead those were for the Yaris SE, with firmer springs, shocks, quickened steering, four wheel disks, and better seats. I feel like a facelifted Yaris SE with the full-fat 140hp and xD five speed is how the platform should have been sold (to be competitive).
Eesh, that first 1-2 shift sounded like traction control bogged it way down, or like they went for a 1-4 shift by mistake. It should also be noted for those who don't know, that muffler is a dealer installed unit, not stock. Stock is pretty much Yaris spec, with the exhaust tip actually coming out from the FRONT of the muffler toward the rear axle, before flipping a u-turn out the back.
