She looks incredibly heart-melting in this one. And then her voice is like a gentle hug for your soul.
One of the MANY things that amazes me about Angelina is the extraordinary (encyclopedic?) volume of musical knowledge (lyrics, timbre, tempo, tone, etc.) she had already committed to memory at such a young age! I mean, she closes her eyes almost the entire time on this song, and it's like she's reading the lyrics written on the inside of her eyelids, never missing a beat or nuance! And it's not even her primary language. Her mind is just as magnificent to me as her voice is!
Angelina said in an interview that "she goes to a magic place when she sings, impossible to put in words". I go to that place too whenever I listen to her.
Carly, I'm not one that likes to compare, but I have to say I prefer this one to the original. Lana del Rey is a great songwriter but she says herself that singing isn't her strongest point. Obviously she does a great job on her own song but Angelina injects texture and emotion that I don't hear when Lana sings it. Thanks for your reaction and support of this beautiful soul.
I agree. Lana sings her song. Angelina reinterprets the words with feeling.
Lana sings it more haunting and fleetingly desperate, Angelina puts in a boatload of melancholy. The effect is that they tell a different story: Lana is still wondering what will happen and hopeful, with Angelina she already knows the answer and it aint good. Interesting how a different timbre can change a song!
Just a few hours ago Angelina confirmed again that new music is coming very soon, all in caps! So that’s a second time in a few days she confirmed that it is coming soon. We can only wonder, with the Smiths, how soon is now :-)

This rendition of hers is, I repeat , a standard studio product, neither good or bad. Nothing to stay in the history book of Music.

Without belting or even being loud, the elegant and graceful vocal detail immerses our senses in her story telling. Hypnotic.

I've listened to Angelina's cover of this song by Lana Del Rey more than a few times. I've listened to Lana Del Rey's original version of this song as well more than a few times. It's hers after all. Or at least it was. Sigh. This is Angelina's talent. Not to take away from anyone of course. It's Lana's emotion reduced to poetry, music. But, and this is Angelina's power, to take something so beautiful and striking and deep and meaningful, and elevate it. How does she do that? Well, the velvety depth of her tone, the timbre, the instrument her voice has become, golden vocal chords that in the last ten years have become instruments of stories, tales, poetry and beauty, and powerfully so. So, while Lana and Adele, and so many others gave birth to remarkable art, I love Angelina's interpretation of it, and it seems to be the case for everything she touches from I Put a Spell on You, I'm a Fool to Want You, Summertime, or whatever she sang as a wee one to what she has become, the greatest interpreter (or translator, if you will) of the art of music across almost all genres. I felt Lana's version when I watched it. Angelina's version goes through you, and resides in you after you listen, that's what she does to us. She's that good. Thank you for your reaction, your smile says it all, and we know you can feel the goosebumps because your face shows them to us, and thank you for that vulnerability with Angelina's art.

Great reaction CarliShea! It's really weird on how she dan channel and even sound a little bit like Lana Del Rey and yet still have her own unique sound. That's why she kind of earned the name of girl with a thousand voices from her fans. The melancholy she put in this song is just incredible. On a side note, you have 2 commenters down below saying that Elvis sung this better. I think they didn't bother to listen to this song because Elvis did a song also called Young and Beautiful, but was written by a different songwriter and the lyrics are totally different! Because of her covers we as fans of her are experiencing writers of songs that we have not found interesting in the past to be of great interest, she makes everything into a classic. Most the time I really really love Angelina Jordan, but this time I really didn’t like the song choice , it just seems laborious!
