I love the SL's. I bought mine in in 1999(its a 1998). I still have it. Its beat up. It Took a lot of battle damage but still sounds great. I love LP Specials in general I also have 2 TV models, a single cut and a DC, both with P-90s. I have other Les Paul's but Specials are my preferred model. That being said I'm also a Tele guy and I also think they're pretty similar animal's.

Just caught Your Video by accident!! Love Your style of reviews!! I recently was gifted a 60th Anniversary 61 Epi SG Les Paul and it has been a Great SG style guitar. I have been fortunate thru the years to have had several Gibson's, Fenders Hofner Basses and several Epi's as well. It was an adventure with all of them and am thankful for the fun it has been!! Hope to view more of Your Videos!! You have a Very Good presentation and style!!! Thanks for taking the time to do these!! Cheers!!

Man that guitar sounds SWEET, great playing and video as usual. This makes me want an LP, might have to look at Gibson or maybe even a Heritage...

Thanks Bryan! Man, all the early-mid 2000s Gibsons I've played are just off the chain. Def recommend.
I've always been curious on the Heritage stuff tho I struggle with the headstock...

Sweet! Beautiful understated example of a Les Paul Special, looks great and sounds great. It's interesting to me that the Les Paul Special SL came stock with covered humbuckers where most Specials don't. Glad you are doing a teardown, I'm curious what the pickups are, if they are original Gibson 490T/498T or if swapped. I picked up a Les Paul Special Tribute P-90 last year and it's one of the best guitars I've had, in every way (and I once owned an LP Custom). So now I'm pondering one with humbuckers and this SL proves yet again what a tone monster Specials can be. EDIT: I'm reading online the the SL came with the small trapezoid inlays and the Faded came with Dots. Reverb has a listing: "Gibson Les Paul Special 2002 Faded Black" that looks like yours. It would explain why you're sure you have a laquer finish like the Faded has, while the SL is said to have poly.

Same here Jimmy! My guess is maybe the 490/498 but we'll know for sure soon ;)
Yea that's the thing, a lot of the info is murky. I did read there was a special run of SLs that had those mini trap inlays too. And I've seen some SL's in like a high gloss, and some like this. Some reg Specials tossed in there too. Some with the little belly cut like this, some without haha.
Either way, shes a monster ;) The murkiness makes it even more interesting.
