That's why when Lupe says young thug is one of his favorite artists , i am not really bothered by the statement because he said artist and not rapper. I can see how Lupe would be jealous of Kendrick's current placement in hiphop. He was supposed to be at kendrick's current level in 2005 when he came out; the socially aware-yet-cool-rapper who appealed to many. But Wayne's growth during that time kinda shadowed over everyone on the come-up, especially Lupe, shown evident through Carter 3 winning the grammy over The Cool. After that missed shot to gain top relevancy for himself again (especially after the "dumb it down" song), lupe started to decline along with feuds with his record company over Lasers, and now he just sounds sour that Kendrick is getting the buzz & crown he should have gotten.
Naar Z Kendrick's projects are ones you come to appreciate over time. Listen thru S80 and GKMC like five times each and I promise you will get it. The guy is a fucking musical genius, ridiculously conscious and if you really READ IN to what he is saying, its very rewarding. Kendrick is amazing in the sense that he can make a song sound so "made for radio" but in the context of the album it could be a gigantic turning point, and each track in a Kendrick project is a stroke of genius. But you need to listen to it front to back to get a full appreciation for it

I feel where Lupe is comin from. I think as far as cadence, energy and content is concerned Kendrick kills it. He even has an extremely poetic side, but when it comes to bars and lyricism there are people who can beat him. His strength comes from the impact of his message and the emphasis he puts into it. When you hear the Control verse, lyrically, there's not much to it, but he's name dropping and making a statement that he's gonna murder these guys.

No, Lupe Stans and Schoolboy Q Stans and Logic Stans and Kanye Stans are (in my opinion) worse because they have no fucking point to their claims of those artists being the best of any genre, Kendrick fans at least have a point because Kendrick is the best fucking rapper alive and it's pretty well accepted that that's the case, the most well accepted that it's been since the 90s that a single rapper stands above the rest. Now, there's a line between seeing greatness and appreciating it and blindly going along with the hype, but Kendrick is the real deal, the 100% thoroughbred real deal.

I can see how Lupe would be jealous of Kendrick's current placement in hiphop. He was supposed to be at kendrick's current level in 2005 when he came out; the socially aware-yet-cool-rapper who appealed to many. But Wayne's growth during that time kinda shadowed over everyone on the come-up, especially Lupe, shown evident through Carter 3 winning the grammy over The Cool. After that missed shot to gain top relevancy for himself again (especially after the "dumb it down" song), lupe started to decline along with feuds with his record company over Lasers, and now he just sounds sour that Kendrick is getting the buzz & crown he should have gotten.
I personally don't see what all the Kendrick hype is tbh.
Naar Z Kendrick's projects are ones you come to appreciate over time. Listen thru S80 and GKMC like five times each and I promise you will get it. The guy is a fucking musical genius, ridiculously conscious and if you really READ IN to what he is saying, its very rewarding. Kendrick is amazing in the sense that he can make a song sound so "made for radio" but in the context of the album it could be a gigantic turning point, and each track in a Kendrick project is a stroke of genius. But you need to listen to it front to back to get a full appreciation for it

I feel where Lupe is comin from. I think as far as cadence, energy and content is concerned Kendrick kills it. He even has an extremely poetic side, but when it comes to bars and lyricism there are people who can beat him. His strength comes from the impact of his message and the emphasis he puts into it. When you hear the Control verse, lyrically, there's not much to it, but he's name dropping and making a statement that he's gonna murder these guys.
