Thank you for this excellent and very clear video!! I just fixed my mother’s dishwasher-your instructions saved me hours of grief and the cost of hiring someone to do a 5 minute repair!
Glad it was helpful!
This video enabled me to be able to switch pulleys on the door , which is exactly what I needed to be able to do to stop the door from squeaking every time I opened. Cost me nothing. Spouse will be happy for another five years (I hope).
I just watched your video, and I replaced the door balance link kit in five minutes! Thanks!
Thanks a bunch. Having the unit completely outside an enclosure helped me see what I should be looking for.
You guys absolutely ROCK... have bought from before but from now on will ALWAYS purchase from you.
Thanks so much for this informative video. This was a lifesaver! We were easily able to fix our dishwasher door following these instructions which were well-paced and the visuals were quite clear. Saved us a lot of money and hassle trying to get a handyman to do it. Cannot thank you enough!
Thank you for taking the time to make and post this great video!
Hey Thank you Steve! You saved us almost $200. May GOD bless you to be a blessing!
Oh yeah a "simple repair" when the dishwasher is out and sitting pretty on a nice riser. Try it when you have a finished floor that is 3/4" above the front leveling legs.
P.S. Great video. Showed exactly what to do. Even listed exact tools needed.
your video is great, it helped me tackle this problem but not more than 3 or 4 months have passed and both sides the plastic pegs have sheared off at the same time. Is there any way to drill thru the broken peg and secure it with a small nut and bolt with washers?
Thanks--this looks identical to my Kenmore model. Just a pain since the whole thing must slide out to gain access--the other design where they clip down at about 45 degrees seems much easier to work on.
This video was just what I needed - did the job in just a few minutes…thanks!
Now if I could just figure out how to fix the microwave door spring.
Hi popgunandy, glad we were able to help you with your dishwasher, and good luck with your microwave! A repairman's job is never done, is it? Thanks for getting in touch.
Awesome videos! Keep up the great job I really use these a lot training in appliance repair.
Thanks for the great instruction video. Can you describe the symptoms of a dishwasher door that has a broken balance mechanism? Our dishwasher door seems to be tilting to one side, and it just started acting this way after we had a new floor installed. We are wondering if the floor guys tried to pull out the dishwasher by the door. When the door is just about closed, the latch mechanism corrects the tilt, forcing the door back to the middle. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks!
Looks just like my Kenmore. Upon inspection I notice that the right side seems to be normal. However the left side appears to have never had the string or spring. It seemed to open ok until recently. Do you think that putting the string and spring on the left side is all that I need to do. The rollers are there but no string or spring.
The video hand-waves over everything you have to do to get the dishwasher out of its enclosure. Other than that, very clear and informative.
Now, how do I do it when the steel plate on one side of the door is bent out of shape so the hook isn't lined up with the pulleys? :-)
Great vid of replacing the rollers. What looks so easy is the part where you pull the spring forward and attach the white plastic end . . . NOT! It took 2 of us to pull the spring forward with a lever and then hook the plastic end onto it.
Great video, Great style! For what it's worth, the identical part is available on Amazon for 12.16
Free shipping with Prime! Shame on Whirlpool though. This is NOT a part that should ever break or wear. God help anyone if that door hits them when it breaks.
My Kitchen Aid dishwasher has springs balancing the door--one broke letting the door flop fully-damaging the stops in the frame on each side. Is repair possible and i guess worth it being 13yrs --Thanks Jim T
Awesome - thanks for the great instructions!
Will the breakage of these strings cause water to leak out.
If the door link is damaged, you would loose tension on the door hinge and therefore the door may not have adequate pressure against the door gasket. This would probably result in a water leak. You would also encounter a symptom of the door
being heavier to lift into the closed position
Getting back to you with serial # for that Kitchen Aid door problem--it's YKUDP230BWO and type DW-4 --being reasonably handy is it a in -house fix-how far must it be dismantled Thanks Jim T
wow...you make it so easy. Thanks,
I have a KitchenAid model KUDP02CRBT1 and I have replaced the door balance link kit with part #8194001 twice in the last month because the links keep snapping. When I first replaced the kit the balance tension was in the 2nd position(out of 3) but upon replacing the kit, I had to place it in the lowest tension position(1) and again, I have snapped both links twice in one month. Do they make a longer link because the 15" length is NOT long enough for my unit...
That is the correct part number for your model. Make sure there is enough lubrication on the cord and that nothing is impeding the
movement of the springs. You could also contact the manufacturer for advise.
I just replaced both links on my Kitchenaid for the second time in about three years. This time I used a kit from Parts Select and it seemed to go easier than with the first kit I purchased locally. Don't know why.I thought it was pretty easy and I am a lady over 70! What does that tell you?
Sandra Church Awesome work on your repair!
I changed out both sides, but now when opening the door there is a load spring noise (shrill) every time I open or close the door ? Is there a breaking in period. If not I'm just gonna live without the kit....Thanks
Hi OWG! Thanks for the question; apologies about the delay! Try applying a bit of petroluem jelly on the cord. This should allow it to slide freely and eliminate the noise. Good luck!
I have read elsewhere that the cord on pulley replacement part 8194001 is shorter than the original on some models and creates too much tension. Is that true? I have a Kitchenaid KUDIO1ILWH3.
We have not encountered this problem.
I have the WDT710PAYM3 whirlpool, do you know a part # for the Replacing the Door Balance Link Kit. The dishwasher I have is only 1 year and 5 days old.
Thanks
It looks like for your model the door uses a spring to connect the door to the frame. The part number for that is W10337934 and it connects into the white link or bushing on the side of the dishwasher's frame. If the hinge is broken then that too can be replaced and the part number for that is 8268990. Hope that information helps.
My dishwasher was open & someone ran into it. & the door will not stay level like it used too. It drops down a bit so the bottom rack will not stay level. Do you have any ideas?
Scott LeBlanc What model number is your dishwasher?
model 587. or 970D
Scott LeBlanc Sounds like one of the hinges became dislodged or damaged. Do you have a complete model number?
Thanks for the video.....
the door is dropping on mine so ive just opend it up to find everything was connected ok where spring is but moved the pin its on further up but the door is still dropping on that side
Thank you!
perfect...thank you!
where do i buy the parts?
Whenever I search for the Bosch SHE55M15UC Dishwasher Door Balance Kit, my most frequent result is:
Whirlpool Part # 8194001.
However, when looking at the Whirlpool part description, Bosh is never listed as a cross-reference for the part.
I can't seem to find an actual cross-reference.... just paths leading me to assume that it's a fit.
Before purchasing and shipping, I would prefer an actual referral and better yet an explanation for..
"why it happens this way?"
Any suggestions?
C L Stephen I have passed your question on to Steve and will let you know what he suggests.
Not aren't sure how you came up with that part number. The OEM part is available from Partselect as PS8728389
