I bought my 1987 Suzuki Samurai in the Fall of 1986, and over 219,000 miles later I STILL love it! By the way, that's a little over a year longer than I've had my wife. I'll let y'all guess which has given me fewer problems.
First, Daihatsu Rocky rocks. Second, your channels (TFL) are one of the bests among the channels like yours and you are getting better and better. Last, keep going guys. Don't stop.
This is TFL at its best!!! pulling for Nathan’s Suzuki, but love the lil Subaru and years ago the local Chevy dealer got a Daihatsu dealership and like a month later it was gone, disappeared and nobody even noticed, honestly I’m still wondering if I imagined this happened it was there for such a short time. What you proved is that TFL is a family presenters and fans!!!
Great video, hope to see more like this more often! The Samurai is, by far, the best of the three. I would be interested in purchasing her, but living in Europe makes her impossible for me to afford.
@@salvador_mano4x4 Had a LWB Suzuki 413 that had front and rear difflocks, 6.5 to 1 low range transfer gear, 2" spring lift and power steering and original gas engine and was better offroad than most other 4x4s.

That Zook is king. I have slightly lifted Suziki SJ410 with added on coil springs and 1200 cc (actually like 1163 or so) Toyota Corolla DX engine coupled with KE70 Corolla 5 speed gearbox. No mercy in the woods! Yeah I have the new Jimny as my daily ride...put at least not yet I have not abused it too much...it is only one year old and still has only minor scratches and nothing broken 😎
I have been waiting for this video because I just bought a Rocky with 31" tires on them. I've been fixing it up and the last thing to do is the small oil leak. Can't wait to take it out for some off road trails!
Nice! I have one too. Bought it a year and a half ago. Many moons ago, I had a 4runner that I sold to a friend who now refuses to sell it back to me. The Rocky is probably better for me because it’s lighter so easier to tow with my RV. I never use the rear window, and take the hardtop off all summer.
What a ❤ tug episode! Grew up with all those gen GLs as a kid in the mountains. Parents were buying Subie GLs from 70s and 80s and they finished with a 89 XT6. I absolutely beat on a 81 GL as my 1st car. Loved those old transfer case shifted Subies!! Samurai's were new and kinda cool in my teens and knew a few friends in em as 1st cars (including a few rolled in the dez). Thanks for the trip! 👍👍 And thanks for not killing the Subie!
Everytime that Subaru is featured it is a good day...it’s like the family dog...no matter how annoying, it’s endearing. Of course I owned an ‘83 (I think) GL two door hardtop that despite many many expensive mechanical problems I loved it
The samurai needs a Yj Jeep spring conversion. It completely changes the ride quality of a Samurai. If you keep it spring under, it only gives about 1.5” lift.
A group of friends bought one as a fun side project, 215R15 tires with huge spacers, lift, bumpers and rock sliders. The thing is fast on light trails, but not very capable on obstacles. It has a small prerunner vibe to it with the spacers and tube bumpers, but the diesel engine makes sounds awfull and is super unreliable, always leaves them stranded. It's quite fun to see them try to do stuff though, but in the end you would be better off with something like a Lada Niva, which is actually quite capable.
This one proves that old fashioned 4x4 os not so obsolete compared to the very sophisticated all electronic gizmos of the new very powerful vehicles. Good video.
these are the type of vehicles you take to the trail for fun, and if it makes it then you will be impressed. If it constantly gets stuck and needs help nobody can really say much besides laugh because it's expected!
My old bones won't love the Suzuki gut-wrench, "suspension", (term used loosely). Test drove new in 1993(?) off dealer lot, into Phoenix traffic & right back onto lot: 1.3 what - kittens? turtles? So slooooow...!
I feel like the Subaru's biggest disadvantage was its tires. It certainly isn't as capable a platform as the others offroad (though on road its probably leagues better) but those tire certainly weren't doing it any favors. With a bit more grip it probably would have at least had a shot at making it. Love these videos with the classic offroaders.
I would often offroad my lowered Audi 5000cs quattro avant manual. It was super capable with selectable centre and rear diff. Never trashed a panel or skidded underside. Gorgeous car on the street and the trail.

The Feroza's a great little 4WD. The smell of petrol was addressed in the 2010 recall. The fuel tank evaporator check valve located being the rear quarter trim cracks. They should look at upgrading the intake system to the later Feroza with the torque box.
I owned a Suzuki LJ81 ute (pick-up to you gents) in the ‘80s. It had a 797cc four cylinder engine (a veritable powerhouse compared to the previous 360cc two stroke engine) and a 4 speed manual transmission BUT with low range and a huge off-road ‘heart and soul’. It was my hunting and fishing vehicle for a number of years. Cruising on the highway was NOT its (or my) happy place.
