The saddest song in the World in 1965 when I was 13 and still the saddest song in the World in 2024 now I'm 72 A beautiful song from a lovely lady. Thank you for all the memories!
This was mine and my husband's song while he was serving in the RAF, often away for months at a time and was played for us on Radio Labuan in Borneo in 1967. It was played at his funeral almost 4 years ago now. Wherever you are my Robert, I still love you so.
Its Jamie Davies I love listening to this song too Wendy Young my mate and friend and I'm very very sorry about your husband too Wendy Young my mate and friend.
Very few songwriters have conveyed sadness as simply and effectively as Francoise. Since the bulk of her work was in French, many of us cannot entirely understand the lyrics, but her plaintive delivery fully conveys the melancholy that underpins much of her work. Some of her earlier work might have given a nod to contemporary musical trends, but on the whole it has a timeless quality to it which I hope younger generations will continue to discover. A wonderful talent who chose to follow her own path.
She has contributed her entire life to music. Before très malade, she never stops composing and singing in cooperation with some French pop musicians such as Calegero in her late years. Merci beaucoup Françoise Hardy, tu vas nous manquer 🙏
You explained that perfectly. I'm old enough to vaguely remember that song but the remainder of her career escaped my attention and evidently that was my loss. I suppose that one thing about the French is they're extremely protective of their own language and as you say a lot of culture is lost in translation.
I know what you mean, one of these people is Whitney Houston she was a screecher she may reach the high notes but for me I found her voice annoying. I am 65 so I vaguely remember hearing this song when i was 8 years old, then I heard it again just a few days ago on the radio. I literary had to stop what I was doing it was pure music to my ears, I later found the track on the net, and I listen to it at least 5 times a day. There is another beautiful song by Mary Hopkin called Gold and Silver (if you have not heard it before) give it a listen Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
WAS SAD TO HEAR ABOUT FRANCOIS'S DEATH. I REMEMBER HER SINGING THIS ON A POP MUSIC PROGRAMME CALLED THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS (WOULD HAVE BEEN NEARLY 12) THINKING WHAT A LOVELY SONG IT WAS IT GOT INTO OUR TOP 20(NUMBER 16) I COULDNT AFFORD TO BUY SINGLES/LPS AT THAT TIME BUT CAME ACROSS IT IN A SECONDHAND RECORD SHOP IN THE LATE 80'S AND SNAPPED IT UP STRAIGHT AWAY - BETTER LATE THAN NEVER!
THANK YOU, FRANCOISE, FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO MUSIC. YOU MADE OUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE. REST IN PEACE WITH THE ANGELS AND FELLOW MUSICIANS. BOWIE WILL BE HAPPY TO SEE YOU🌅.🌍🌄
Pure perfection. I have never forgotten this beautiful song, expertly delivered by a stunning singer…and the sights of London in 1965 complete it. Thanks so much for sharing
All over the world People must meet and part There's someone like me Feeling a pain in their heart Some may meet again Under that same bright star If maybe some night You come back from afar Who cares if tonight I don't know where you are Are you thinking of me now Missing having me around If you have forgotten me My world will come tumbling down All over the world Others are sad tonight There's someone like me Watching the sun's fading light All over the sky There is the same warm glow Here under that star I'm wanting you to know Wherever you are That I still love you so
As a teenage English boy I dreamt of meeting someone as beautiful as Françoise. But then so did every male teenager in France and England at that time.
My introduction to this wonderful singer song writer was this song. I loved it then and still do. Most of her output was in french of course but she had a woderful voice. It was unusual then for a girl french or otherwise to write their own songs. Many girls of the time copied her look she was the epitome of a sixties girl. Sad that shes gone.
Such a simple song with lovely sentiments, sung with no frills or drama. Brings tears to most people who have lost or have been separated from the love of their lives. Beautiful girl, beautiful song. Thank you for the upload.
Thank you for this beautiful recording. Captures her lovely voice and charming accent so clearly. I was 9 in 1965 and forever remember this song playing on the radio in Malaysian. Thank you for the songs Ms Francoise, Rest In Peace ❤🙏
Viniendo de una artista de raíces yeyé (pero del buen yeyé) no por nada consideran su primer trabajo como un marca pasos en ese genero… en fin, que llegase hasta ese punto de transformación de genero en su carrera. Es asombroso.
Thank you for posting this film again. It seems that the previous one (full screen size) was taken down some time ago. Health and safety would have a field day with it today, though!!!
La empatia es algo que algo que no todos tienen o deben sentir pues es peligrosa si no hay autocontrol, algunos encontramos consuelo en nuestro espejo aunque sea un barril sin fondo...😢

All over the world
People must meet and part
There's someone like me
Feeling a pain in their heart
Some may meet again
Under that same bright star
If maybe some night
You come back from afar
Who cares if tonight
I don't know where you are
Are you thinking of me now
Missing having me around
If you have forgotten me
My world will come tumbling down
All over the world
Others are sad tonight
There's someone like me
Watching the sun's fading light
All over the sky
There is the same warm glow
Here under that star
I'm wanting you to know
Wherever you are
That I still love you so

Fab U Lous performer Francoise Hardy. The man seen in final 10 seconds of video wearing a white coat is supposed to be her Father

I'm happy to have the 69th comment here. Comment te dire adieu from the 3D world Françoise?
I have a friend named Hardy. Only his wife calls him "Hardy." The rest of us call him "Fred."
Judith Durham sang this. I didn’t know where it originated. She plays it beautifully on the piano.
francoise hardy wrote it!
