I have a2023 escape and the assembly does not come out that easy. It looks like there is a modified assembly that extends under the bumper cover.

Do you have blind spot detectors?

Yeah you gotta pull the panels around the tailight (they're fairly easy to take off and put back on) to reveal another torque bit screw to fully remove.
