    So far you are the only person who has ever acknowledged that to be useful the koala cabinet has to be left open at all times which defeats the space saving purpose of the cabinet. You are lucky that your husband firmly attached the section that your serger is standing on. On my cabinet the original attachment point worked itself loose and dumped my serger onto the floor. The serger survived just fine, but I had to retime the machine-that’s just a painful exercise. In the meantime I’ve learned to love sew steady tables rather than sewing machine lifts.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  2 года назад

      Yes, that was a big frustration for me. We have since put the Koala Cabinet back to its original configuration and I gave it to a young teen who is just beginning to sew. I replaced it with an amazing adjustable (sit/stand) table that I LOVE.

    I LOVE your sewing room especially that wood wall. I used to have the biggest bedroom in our house as a sewing room but my son moved home and I gave it to him. Now I have the smallest bedroom so it's mostly just where I sew all my sewing supplies. So now I cut out on the kitchen island, sew in the dining room, iron in the spare bedroom and also have fabric not only stored in the sewing room but under the beds. My husband says it's really a sewing house. At one time the fabric stash was stored in the attic in big totes but that was very inconvenient. I can't believe you love ironing! So do I.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  4 года назад +1

      Thanks Jennett! Aw, the sacrifices we make for our kids 😂. Sounds like your husband is pretty understanding and how fun to tell everyone you don’t just have a sewing room but a sewing house!
      I can’t believe you love yo iron also! Most people think I’m nuts - but it’s so soothing 😀

      You are correct, I do not have a solid table in my sewing room. And that is because this room is also used for extra sleeping space if family ever has a chance to visit again. Which means I move the sewing table out of the room and put in a mattress for sleeping. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    You have a lovely sewing space! Thank you for sharing it with us......I have way too much of everything!! I have a studio across the driveway and would love to move my sewing to my spare bedroom and simplify with less of everything. I had an alterations and dressmaking business so the studio was great for that......but time marches on and I am ready for the smaller space...

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  4 года назад +1

      Thank you Enid! I hear ya, sometimes I feel like I have too much of everything also. I laughingly tell people that I kept everything I ever purchased, and I likely did because I had so little money for some many years 😀
      A studio would be awesome, but there’s definitely a positive side to having a spare bedroom. I just have to walk down the hallway when I want to so. I don’t have to go outside across the driveway. And alterations and dressmaking business sounds like you are very busy, and probably quite talented!
      Thanks for watching and commenting. 😍

    I know I’m a guy checking out sewing room videos, I’m currently putting one together for my wife. I liked the hack you did with the Koala sewing cabinet simple and clever. I purchased a PFAFF 720 last year for my wife she loves it as well, and I’ve seen those babylock sergers too and they are a nice piece of equipment. My wife would love to learn a little garment sewing but feels intimidated by it. Great video RUclips has really opened up a whole means of sharing, so thanks for sharing!

    I love your sewing room! I too have sewn in small less convient places in my life, including a dark damp basement. I grew up sewing clothes and as such never bought anymore fabric than the project I was currently working on. A fabric stash is overwhelming! I am also baffled by quilters who save every one inch by one inch scrap. I mean I love quilts and appreciate their beauty and dedication required to create them but as a seamstress I can't quite understand why you'd cut perfectly good fabric into tiny pieces then sew it back together again.
    I don't sew clothes like I use because "fast fashion" happened and made ready made clothing cheap and abundant.
    Now a days I sew small, useful sometimes elaborate household projects like aprons and potholders. And I do alterations. New subscriber.

    Thanks for sharing your sewing room. The thing I'm most envious about is that large window. You have a very nice space. I do still have my second Kenmore from the 70s and all it's attachments but not the one from the 60s, and yes I still use it. But the machine I mostly use is my embroidery machine and I purchased an air surger that I love. Not because it threads so easily but because this one will actually keep the tension. My old one would change tension as I'd sewed (I still have it, don't know why). 😊 stay safe.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  3 года назад

      Thanks for stopping by! I have to admit, I love my big window. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a Sewing space that had that much natural light in it, and it is a joy. Oh goodness, I couldn’t even imagine if I were sewing some thing and the tension was changing as I was sewing. Knowing me, I would think it was me before I figured out it was the machine 😂

    I have a BabyLock serger with the air threader-love it so much! I was like you-I didn’t serge much before because it was so hard to thread. What is the advantage to using paper tape when altering patterns? (I know I ask a lot of questions😊)

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  4 года назад +1

      Hi CJ! Isn’t that your thread are the best! As I grew older and needed readers, threading that other serger just became difficult.
      I love questions! Keep asking. I use the paper tape to alter patterns as I have found if I don’t press too hard on it the first time, I can remove it and re-position it. When I am happy with my alteration then I press firmly to hold it in place. Also, you can take that paper tape and rip it in half lengthwise, so you can have a narrow piece of tape if you need it. It does work better on tracing paper versus the tissue paper the patterns are printed on.

      I will be honest, fabrics in the totes does make it a bit of a pain to get to the fabric I want to sew. The key for me, is to keep track of what fabric is in what tote. Because I have SO much fabric it was the only storage solution I could come up that worked with the limited space in our home.

    • @SharonSews
      @SharonSews  2 года назад

      I would prefer no carpet. This room was carpeted when we moved in and we haven’t gotten around to changing it yet. It’s really difficult to find pins when I drop them 😜 and of course it would be easier to sweep threads versus vacuuming. However, when I lived in a state that had really cold winters, I liked the carpet just because of the extra warmth and provided on my feet.
