Me and a friend of mine are trying to clear Hell on Hard mode in co-op. After a few hundred deaths I had the idea to begin counting our deaths using an app on my phone. We're at 1175 counted deaths so far, but we're getting to Ballos on about 1/7 of our runs now, wish us luck! THIS IS HELL! (Most runs end in the falling block room, as either of us getting hit by a block means a game over. The brutes are also very annoying, but thankfully we've been at it long enough to figure out the most optimal strat; THE BUBBLINE. You'd think the Spur is more useful? Nope, the shots get stopped by the falling blocks. Around death 600 I joked that the Bubbline was the optimal strat, but actually, the level 3 Bubbline forms a shield of bubbles around us that the brutes just fly into and die. Optimal strat.)
We did it. Thank you to the person who liked this comment. Final death count was 1468. I have clips saved on my Switch that I'll post on my YT channel after I edit them together.

I've never completed Hell in CaveStory. The few times I get to Ballos, I'm so thrilled I always run into the insta death spike directly after entering the boss room...
Still stuck in this GOD Forsaken part. This is literal hell. The first time I killed the crusher thingy (havent played in nearly a year) I remember I was so excited but then I died because it fell on me. Sad, my last attempt was getting to Balos then dying. Maybe I would return lol,
I started playing cave story in 2017, it took me 5 years and almost 8 playthroughs (5 of which ended partway through the bloodstained sanctuary) later to actually beat the 3rd ending.
I first played this on DSi Ware. I expected it to not be very good since other DSi Ware titles weren't the best. I was so wrong this game was such a great adventure! Back then I only got the normal ending. Now I'm replaying it on Nintendo switch and I am going for the best ending
I was stuck on this for 8 hours and then I realized that the timer didn’t mean that there was a time limit, meaning that my damage-boosting tactics were unnecessary. Needless to say I got it soon after that revelation.
Honestly, I like the idea that you rush to beat this level, since the island is falling and that fits the story more, but I do think rushing makes it harder to beat the level.
