Thanks Matt 🙏 We really loved Wales... The scenery, the weather and mainly the people! Hospitable and very open and welcoming, like everywhere in the UK!
A really lovely video of part of your journey through Wales. Great views and chats with people, thanks. I also appreciate your thoughtful choice of background music, which seemed in keeping with the villages and landscape.
Thank you Stephen 😊 Good to hear you thought he music fitted well with the imagery. We always try and do our best to select something nice. All the best, E&M
Another beautiful episode in your trip thank you for sharing 👍 Loving the drone shots and I’m sure you will really enjoy the beauty of the Lake District
Wales is such an awesome country to cycle through! I also did it this summer can can't wait to release these episodes - certainly some hard climbing on a lot of days 😅 but also some stunning scenery! I was also so surprised to hear just how many people in the North of Wales are still speaking Welsh - it's a lovely language to listen to!
Thank you again Erik and Maudi for bringing us so much love, beauty and happiness in this sad, angry and desperate time we now are in. Long may you run... 🎶
Super, super, super. The landscape is gorgeous but the production values of your videos is so good now. All the years of experience coming together but you still have not lost the core message......it is simple to get out there and see these places for yourself. Big well done E and M. Michael from Ireland. (I just noticed I have problems with Patreon. I will fix it in the coming days)
Great fun and great images. As others have said, Storm Arwen hit the Lakes in November 2021. It devastated large areas of old mature and beautiful trees. And knocked out powerlines, some didn’t get electric back for nearly 2 weeks. The winds hit from the north, which is the opposite direction to the usual winds, so the old trees were not prepared or strong on the north side and were wiped out. So sad, when you passed through in the following summer much had already been cleared. It truly was a shocking scene soon after the storm.
As well as providing somewhere to defrost small frozen items, the microwave can also be used as a postbox for the farmer. Saves the postie a long walk/drive to the house.
Thanks for the fabulous videos. I've cycled many of the same routes through Wales and the Lakes and this film has brought back happy memories. The microwaves in walls are used for post to stop it from getting damp! Somewhere hidden in the hills will be a farm house that the postie can't reach. The number of cut trees trees will get worse as you head into Scotland or Northumberland. Storm Arwen in the winter of 2021 took down huge numbers of trees and it will take 15 months to 2 years to clear them all! Safe travels and if you're ever in Shropshire send me a message as you're welcome to stay.
Very nice video where we can see you live along your journey in stunning landscape that we can really appreciate with the drones shootings. Congratulations !
You did a great job of selling Wales to me. Except perhaps for the the weather. Your videos have a very distinctive look and feel to them. Much appreciated. Thanks. All the very best.
Old microwave ovens set in the wall are quite common. The post man/women leave letters in them rather than driving all the way up a lane to a farm. Sometimes people leave eggs in them and you can take the eggs and leave a pound or two.
This was great to watch. Your videos are looking very professional and slick. Stunning scenery. So glad you had some good weather in Wales. Very best wishes to you both!! 🚴😊👍💕
Hello Maudi & Eric, very interesting to see this area. I haven't been able to. Thank you for this beautiful video. It gave me a lot of pleasure. Many greetings Bernard
Great video. We missed Wales on our trip through the UK, but this video gives us something to look forward to when we eventually come back! Also I've got to say your map animation is phenomenal.
Great stories again. Beautiful scenery and amazing building constructions. I'd love to be once on one of such a canal boat gliding through the landscape. Slow Life.
Nice film again 🙂 Open forest areas have higher species diversity than dark closed forests. The higher the species diversity, the more robust the forest. In the case of diseases such as bark beetles, infested trees are removed selectively. As a result of global warming, forestry is planning for the future. In our country, for example, the spruces that are not drought-resistant are being displaced by other, more robust varieties. What exactly on site was the reason for cutting the trees, I can not say from the pictures 🙂
hope you both enjoy the lake district. its the most beautiful place on earth. great video as always E&M, i always enjoy watching. as for the hospitality your enjoying i always say ‘good people attract good people’.
Thank you Graham! The Lake District is something else. We really had a special time there. We would love to explore more some day. Wishing you all the best, E&M
I've watched your videos for a long time - it's so cool to see you experiencing places for the first time that I know very well! I live just across the border in England, but I have done lots of cycling in Wales - it's one of my absolute favourite places to ride. The beautiful mountains, the stunning coastline, the picturesque small towns and the people all make it a very special place indeed. It's quite different to England - even though we have been joined together for centuries, it still feels very much like another country. It's a pity you had to cut out the Wirral and Southport areas - both of those have some lovely rides, but probably not as stunning as the Lake District :) I look forward to following the rest of your adventure!
That's cool to hear and nice we can show you our experiences in your backyard. We loved it and already have ideas for a future visit. Wishing you many wonderful miles! E&M
Hai..goodluck for you erik n maudy..i allways like your video touring everywhere u are..you my inspiration.... I thing all nice video n story u made..... Regard from indonesia.....succses allways..bro n sist....keep safety riding.....
Moments in time... Lovely (as always) video! I cycle toured through Wales once many years ago, but only for a few days. I will need to get back there again! I also wanted to echo something you included in another recent video about the passage of time when cycle touring. On our recent 2.5 month tour I was reminded of that, and my wife and I have discussed that often since returning home. It's a very different (and much preferred) rhythm! Thanks for sharing your journey. Kind regards, Martin
Cymru ym byth! Thanks for the dub, not enough people use dub in their videos. Enjoy the UK guys - lively to have you here. We now use forest management as trees are replaced 7 to 1 at least.
Hey guys, just catching up on your videos here in the UK. This trees on the western shores of Windermere (which is funnily enough not an actual Lake but simply a 'mere' as it is too shallow to be considered a Lake) were blown down during the storms of autumn 2021 and the previous year but 2021 being particularly bad. I was working at the campsite at Low Wray for the National Trust and we had to close doors early due to flooding and then the trees came down thereafter with sudden high winds. There is forestry there but along the shore path where you cycled it was indeed just storm damage.
Its my dream to cycle around the world, if you had chosen not to take the train from chester to Lancaster, you might have gone through Blackpool, which is a great place. and has a very famous Landmark called Blackpool Tower, which has been around for around 130yrs or so, and is worth the visit. I love your videos and they are giving me some inspiration.
Great video from you guys. Love the touches of humour and repartee in your commentary. The canal tow-paths and bridges in Wales are a surprise to me, I had not associated this with Wales.
I recently discovered your channel, which I love, and I am currently working my way through your earlier World Tour videos. I haven't been able to do as much cycle touring as I would have liked, but I can still experience it through your adventures. I am so impressed with the quality of your filming and editing and I appreciate the extra time (and pedalling) you must be putting in to do all the filming! I'm very pleased that you have just visited my home of Cumbria/The Lake District, and am looking forward to see where you visited in your next video. I love your friendly, open, positive attitude and the fact that you often focus on your interactions with the people you meet, rather than just the sights. I am also super impressed with your stealth camping skills - I would never be brave enough to camp in the places you've camped! I have lots of questions I'd like to ask but I did want to ask about helmets. Sometimes you wear helmets and sometimes you don't - here in the UK most cyclists wear helmets, but I was in Utrecht this Summer so I know that not many cyclists wear helmets in the Netherlands. I was wondering how do you decide when to wear a helmet and when not to?
Thank you for you uplifting words! Cumbria is one heck of a place, we are a bit jealous ;) Mostly we wear helmets but on some tranquil stretches we might be tempted to take them off. Of course we are dutch and not used to wearing helmets at home. Best wishes, E&M
Thank you for taking the time to reply! Yes Cumbria is beautiful, but the weather is not always great (like today for instance!) Right at this moment I'm listening to your interview on the Pursuit Zone podcast which I just stumbled upon. Great to learn some more about your adventurous lives.
The whole of Lake Windermere is within the Lakes District National Park, so any forestry is going to be quite heavily regulated. This national park has many cultural aspects to it, so farming is present. Any forestry and logging will be in plantation areas rather than in wild forests. My guess is that this has been windfalls with logging of heavier falls to clear the path, rather than any commercial logging.
Could be! We also read some info panels about trees being cut for charcoal... But I think that's something that happened in the past. You're probably right about the windfalls!
Another super video! I like the Dutch-Welch pronunciation of 'Llangollen' 🙂 LL in Welsh is like 'TH' (with your tongue behind your front teeth) - so 'Thlan - goth - len'.
Nature is changing during each season leaving different impressions to the people who are crossing through the regions. I wander what time of the year would be the most 'cycle friendly' (especially rain) to do the cycle trip you two are performing. Enjoying your stories. Fair winds & following roads.
Hills in the U.K. yep you easily get 20%. The hills are not so big to have roads that zip zag like in the alps, but they are so numerous and the roads and tracks go straight up straight down and back up again. So it’s a challenge. I just came back from Netherlands wirh my mum on e bikes as she is 78 yrs old. It’s flat, super flat. Outstanding rides there wirh zero inclines except the highest hill in the county of course.
