this is the best homemade outrigger on youtube, easy to make and looks good, been trying to make one for my yak and i think this one will be my best example to follow, thanks for the vid !!
This is Great! I was think of doing this also. I bought a WindRider Tango (sailing kayak) without the outriggers and this is what I was planning to do. Thank you for the video. I'll nee both sides of course for sailing
Great video hey I have some outrigger myself i just instilled them yesterday on my kayak it a sea stream 120 pd I was wondering could u tell me how u made the Bracket for the outboard motor I have a 2.5 suzuki still trying to Figure out where I am going to put it but if I can get my motor where you have yours in this video that will be awesome thanks
ruclips.net/video/Vqy1z28xRtQ/видео.html this was the origanal video, you get a much better look at everything. take a look at 1:54 to 2:00 I used a 2x6 peice of wood
If you go off shore do you take a small bilge pump with you? Is your system proven have you turned off your motor and fished under your boat for a while to check your valve system! My zodiac has cute little drains but you should plug them when not underway ! I'm thinkin about powering a hobie here in Idaho on the snake! Thank
@@cesluis40 how did you mount the motor? Do you have any close ups for that? I plane on connecting it to the front crossbar with anchors to keep the 2x4 from bending with the motor pressure.
@Justin Jones I hooked it up to the wood that's behind me. Screwed up by not putting better close ups on that video, but check out the first video I made of kayak has all the close ups i think you'll need.
JM556 thanks, glad you like it. Rough cost was about $300. Styrofoam sheets, epoxy, fiberglass , sandpaper ,tape .etc. Pipes and screws.. Was fun to make.. if your gonna try it... good luck
enjoy the ride nice man thanks, i was thinking of putting a trolling motor on my tarpon 140 but figure a pontoon and outboatd would be better, definitely gonna have to try this, thanks for the reply
Mind if I ask what you used to attach the pontoon to the rigger brackets? It looks like you have the brackets screwed into a base plate sunk into the (bondo?). Would really like to follow thus method when I do mine, thinking fiberglass and resin should make it even stronger. Just need to find a foam that will stand up to the themalytic reaction.
ruclips.net/video/Vqy1z28xRtQ/видео.html. This is first video of outriggers.. zoom. Better view of how pipes where attached... any questions.. I'll try to answer
@@cesluis40 Thx for the replies, what were those base plates made of? Also did you just use regular screws to attach the brackets to the base plate on the pontoon or did you glue it with epoxy? Sorry for all the questions, would like to recreate what you did cause your pontoons look professional and streamlined to minimize drag. Oh... What's the green finish, paint or a water resistant/proof plastic coating?
The rear is self bailing (drained by itself). On the inside were i was sitting, i made some draining check valves out of pvc and a paddle ball. That yak takes on a lot of water.
n3113n thanks, glad you like it. front is being held by a 2x6 board with the 4 rod holders and 2 pipes going into rear drains. yes it does, more between kayak and pontoon. but I can stand and throw a cast net with no problems now. Good luck with yours any questions I will love to try and help. It was a fun project ..

Sunshine Sunny no need to do both. I have tried to flip kayak and can't. have one whole side to fish, get in and out of kayak plus, with stabilizer on both sides motor has to be mounted on the back have to figure how to start, stop, shift and steer.
I tried the 2 yaks together. Was a real pain in the butt to assemble and disassemble . Just didn't like it. But if you do it, would like to see how it comes out
@@cesarflores2324 Im only thinking the 2 kayaks can be used individually at anytime, It depends on wether the missus or daughter wants to come for a paddle ( which is highly unlikely lol ).

Nice job! How long is your outrigger? I actually started mine last night and just found your vid waiting for the first coat of fairing to dry. Wondering if 8'3" is long enough (11" tall), my kayak is 12'6". Again nice job and tight lines!
enjoy_D_ride where u stay? I see Flamingo in your vids. I am in Miami, we are going card sound road tomorrow (I think). We do Flamingo to East Cape every couple of years. With a motor it will be much more enjoyable... U got instagram?
Ryan Fisher l stay in north Miami.. close to haulover and oleta park. usually go out of Dania beach. Matheson hammocks and deering estates are pretty good to. did 1 time camping with son @ flamingo. mosquitos were hungry. maybe will see other out there one day. tight lines
No.. you only need 1 outrigger. It obviously doesn't allow me to tip to the right, and it acts as a counterweight to my left..i would have to tip the outrigger and motor completely out of the water to flip to my left.. Possible but pretty hard to do
Awesome job man, I love it. I plan on doing this exact same thing on my Vibe sea ghost. Haven't quite decided where to mount it yet but seeing how well it worked having both arms on the back for you seems like the option i'll go with. What did you use for the brackets on the outrigger and did you do anything more than fiberglass/bondo them in place?
Jesse Warner Hey glad u like it. Was a fun project worked better then I thought it would. I used a piece of square pipe to fasten outriggers, but was mostly for height. Laminated small aluminium square in outrigger for support, like a backing plate. I laminated riggers with Styrofoam, exopy resin, and gelcoat ( marine paint). No putty. There's one other video of outrigger, kind of same thing. Just has better view of how its mounted. Good luck with yours any questions let me know.
think there is a good reason he did not show how he made the out rigging, I am sure it will break soon if foam and body putty is all he used. bud that was a little selfish not to show that but I dont show what I am ashamed of either.
