"I want to be something more than the mud in your eyes. I want to be the clay in your hands." Those lines have always and will always resonate with me. This song and this band embodies what it means to play music from your heart. The variety of emotion encapsulated in this song is what makes for a timeless, monumental piece. Glad to see the band back together.
I was born around the time these guys were making this and I'm just discovering all this 90s Underground Indie/Emo/Punk stuff now, and man, I am so jealous of most of these people commenting who lived through this era and remember this.
A brave morning, thoughts flap their wings and fly And I can still taste defeat on my lips Bright tie, fish fly, I have not yet arrived How can I not admit, I need to know you 'Cause I just want to be Something more than the mud in your eyes I want to be the clay in your hands Hey sorrow, where are you? Tomorrow just won't be the same without you here I'll wish for shoulders bold and broad to bear And strength to hold my head above them 'Cause I just want to be Something more than the mud in your eyes I want to be the clay in your hands 'Cause Gloria is silent, Gloria is silent Gloria is silent and glory is a silent thing
Mineral, Sunny Day Real Estate, Penfold, Texas Is The Reason, The Promise Ring, Matchbook Romance, etc. are some of the emo bands that play pure and honest emotional songs.
hey what are some more bands ive been trying getting into more emo (coming from harder genres) and honestly this is the most beautiful music ive heard lol and thank u for dropping bands its hard to find more music it took me literally years lol to find the right kinda places to build my playlists so far yk so i appreciate your comment
@@AmeOnDxm hey man! Glad to know you're listening to such awesome emo bands too! There's so much to recommend and if you'd like, you can save the playlist I made. Dinosaur Jr., Camber, Failure, Idle Hands, ..man there was a lot of great ones, this is actually the FIRST time i've ever heard these guys and i'm digging it.. kind glad, now i have something new to listen to.
I love the end of the song. When chris sings 'cause gloria is silent' there is so much power and emotion in the whole song and especially in that moment. I would like to turn my speakers up as loud as possible. And I think it's a great thing for a singer to gain this kind of power and expression without 'screaming'...if you guys know what I mean.
this is what I was raised on. I remember the Emo crowd in Western PA that was spawned from the Hardcore scene of which I was a proud member. Everything was so much more raw and real. Miss those days. It is crazy to think this was soo long ago.

Daniel Tittyfish The term emo literally started as a perjorative though. A more accurate comment would be "before emo meant gay jeans and retarded hair".
If you actually want to listen to something close to this, check out Penfold and Benton Falls. They have a very similar sound to Mineral. Especially Penfold. A lot of soft loud dynamics and sweeping guitars with soaring melodies.
I know, I know. Old comment. I don't find this song depressing. The feelings being described by this song are very intense sure, but it's nice. Not happy, but nice. strong emotions are an incredible thing and can make you feel human and alive like none other.
probably my first (and favorite) "emo" song I ever heard. I was 15 and had just gotten dumped for the first time when I was recommended this band on soulseek. this band got me through those days and still means so, so much to me.
I honestly haven't listened to them that much. The opening guitar part to Never Meant seriously kicks ass though Ever heard of The Promise Ring or The Get Up Kids?
I've actually listened to The World is a Beautiful Place and I am No Longer Afraid to Die. They're not bad at all, but they don't really sound like this. Merchant Ships and Midwest Pen Pals are pretty cool, I've heard some of their stuff. I'll check out some of the others you mentioned, thanks!
@DilutedDreams It's not about whether or not a person listens to "punk" or "emo" its about the fact that they will ignore certain bands, that are thrown into that genre, while they are much more, or not even close to a punk or emo band. If the artist doesn't play an appealing type of music, that's one thing, but to shun them just because they have a certain label attached to them is really being ignorant.
im gonna make everyone jealous. i saw mineral with the get up kids and jejune in wilimington nc in an ungoldly hot building (there was lots of sweat). i guess it was 97 or 98 cant remember but very memorable show and mineral has been a huge influence on my music. dont hate
...the genre of which pop artists murdered, after it picked up, because death was in then, within them. She was so young, before they raped her, into adulthood finances.
@lBenHarrison it's not so much about a label really when identifying genres it's more about clarifying where that music came from, the bands and the culture that inspired the particular trend of music that this band or song fits in to. In that sense there is nothing wrong with labeling it's just a way of categorizing just as animals are. Most people just want to be able to trace the history of where this amazing sound came from to find others that are just as good.
Samuel Silliman I like the album but I don't feel it's similar to Mineral then again mineral said they're similar to Sunny Day real estate and I don't feel that way either
@DilutedDreams But as an artist, it sucks, because you are thrown into a category of bands and some people may not give them a shot just because they are known as an "emo" band or a "punk" band or a "metal" band. In a lot of those cases, the band is a lot more than just what that genre says. It's good to give every band a shot regardless of what they are labeled as.
@DilutedDreams Yeah that's more of my point. The label of emo has grown to have this terrible connotation, and any band that calls themselves or gets called emo immediately alienates a lot of potential listeners and fans. It really sucks, but I see what you're saying about them being a necessary evil of sorts, because there are so many bands out there that you have to organize them in some way.
It still is like this. The problem is that the bands that are truly emo get hidden beneath the stereotypical bullshit and bands that aren't emo. For some reason, Black Veil Brides and other bands of that nature are being mislabeled as emo.
@@TheSpookychick BVB got big thanks to their aesthetic and pretty much a bunch of young teenagers getting interested in them, plus the anti hype they get by both emo and metal elitists made them being known by a big people and i also blame Alternative Press for giving them such a big attention, Alt Press ruined emo for a lot of people

Mineral songs have a lot of references of the Christianism
They could sing they are buying 6 pack of mars bar and one is missing, I would still love this tune for it's drama.

I saw Mineral at at a coffee shop in Austin, on 24th street, back in 95.
I saw them at Cornell in 98 or 99 with The Get Up Kids and Jejune.
