  • Organ Partita no. 1, Op. 43, by Danish organist and composer Svend-Ove Møller, played on the 1957 Åkerman & Lund organ in Ore Church, Rättvik, Sweden. The organ has some pipe material from the previous organ built in 1902 by the local builder P. J. Johansson.

Finally (!) some obscure Danish organ music again!🤩And in a style I keep coming back to: the mildly austere New Objectivity ("nysakligheten").😍It’s a bit like liquorice - both sweet and salty.⚫Svend-Ove Møller’s Organ Partita No. 1 from 1943 consists of seven short contrasting movements: a calm, gently flowing Prelude - a witty and rather equilibristic Canon - an Alla breve acting like a little palate cleanser - a playful yet serious Fantasia sounding like two dead leaves dancing around in the wind - a brilliant little Toccata - a subdued and plaintive, almost mysterious Lament played on the organ’s softest stops - and a concluding majestic Maestoso. Along with some photos from inside the organ.🎵I wonder if Møller’s music is well known in Denmark these days? Let me know, and as always - don’t forget to click the thumbs up and subscribe!😃

Thank you. It would be nice to hear more seldom played organ music here. :)

That will come! I guess I've been playing too much Bach/Buxtehude/Reger over the last months...!😅😅

This is music that is not banal. Bravo for the work accomplished.

I found it in a collection called Musica Organi III with Nordic organ music, I've had it since I was a teenager and it's been featured several times already on this channel. I've always been looking at this particular work, thinking it looks interesting but potentially "dry". It wasn't until now that I decided to actually play it, turns out it's not "dry" at all! Been playing three Hindemith woodwind sonatas recently, they're not too far away from this music, so I guess I was already "in the mood"...!

@@HenrikBergpianorganist I understand and have lived this experience: pieces that I did not want to play when I was younger and now which I really like.
