Hey everyone! So sorry it took me so long to get something out. About a month ago, my computer reset and I lost all of my files 😭 Had to start from scratch. A lot of the comments on “The Villain” requested “The Anti-Villain” so I decided to give it a shot. I really hope you like it. I gave it absolutely everything. Love you all. Never thought anyone would ever listen.
As odd as it is, your voice can bring me down from a full blown panic attack, not everytime mind you, but your music helps a lot. Thank you so much for what you do. ❤️ Sorry about your computer though. But this song is a banger.
@@nathanwagner762 just 3 more to go if you want to fill the set with all the common literary tropes: the mentor, the love interest, and the side kick, actually potentially 4 more the comic relief could be an interesting concept
"You walk around and act like you carry all of your worlds burdens on your shoulders, while i am still picking up the pieces of my own. You fight for the world you have, i fight for the world i once had... that is the only difference between you. And me."
There is not a single thing even slightly sinister about this song. If "Hero" is someone doing the classical hero's journey, and realizing they need to be a hero, then this is someone who's been fighting that fight for years already. Maybe a mentor even.
Man this one gives me chills of everything. This is a quadrilogy of songs. The anti-hero, the hero, the villain, and now the Anti-villain. All of them are art of masterpieces here. I said this last time, but what is with you and Samurai. Also, happy birthday Nathan.
A sympathetic ear and voice that tells you to find yourself, meet your destiny and galvanise you to action in face of your fear. Always reminding you it’s ok to be human but inspiring you to reach your potential… but the path walked is one marked by adversity and might just lead you the wrong way. Truly an anti-villain, means well with an end he may not know ends in a dark place. It’s interesting that in this case it’s posited like a mentor, an influence on the villain who walks the wrong path under his guidance. Just people making the wrong choices.
A anti-hero and a anti-villain are actually very similar they are both just people who have a goal in mind. A anti-hero does good things simple to advance that goal while a anti-villain does evil to achieve the same. They are truely not good or evil just doing what needs to be done to achieve their goals. They both may buy a person a cup of coffee or trip someone down the stairs to them none of it matters as long as it advances their goals they are perpetually in a shade of gray.
What i get from this is encouragement for the true villian to rise up and rain destruction on the world, using fear as both a motivation and a brutal weapon. Love the theme of (what i think) is false hope and just really using this as a way for the villian to get his way. Btw that high note at the end: AMAZING RANGE! Goosebumps every time I hear you do a powerful high note
Already started writing a book based on these four music pieces you've made. I was already working on one based on just the first three, but suffice it to say these provide more than adequate inspiration for lots of good story material. Many thanks, good sir, and very good work. Your voice always has such force and conviction in it; I haven't heard many singers like you.
@@itznakoma Hopefully. We will see. The first book is roughly inspired by the first three songs. A nobody of a man who's never really been accepted in the parts of society he's tried to become part of is eventually driven off by those same people, and becomes a powerful, but purposeless person known as the Wandering Warrior. No one even knows his name. He wanders, causing destruction whenever he happens to come across things, because his empty heart knows no empathy, or even hatred, really. Just emptiness. He causes desolation in one specific city where a homeless and orphaned boy ends up trying to stop him, inspiring others to do the same, and forcing the Wandering Warrior away; but nobody knows him either, and he isn't recognized for his efforts, while many others are. He doesn't mind at first, but eventually that gets to him. Fast-forward a few years, and he's a desperate anti-hero seeking power and tracking the Wandering Warrior, trying to kill him to prove to everyone he has something to offer. It doesn't work, and he loses. He then is sent to train somewhere that ends up leading him to use the same power and even the same weapon of the Wandering Warrior himself, which he realizes only when he then tracks him down again to kill him. He's become what he hated, and only then realizes it. They make peace, and both turn away from their violent paths, down a more merciful road, but the world doesn't notice or care. They're only two nobodies, after all. The second book happens a year later, and I'm only just starting to develop the plot. Those two encounter a girl who's beginning down her own dark path, to change the world for the betterment of everyone, whether they like it or not. She knows not everyone will agree, but doesn't mind. An empty former villain and misguided, guilty hero turned anti-hero then have to try to convince this young, uprising anti-villain that the path she's starting leads only to loneliness and death. Who knows whether or not they'll succeed. Yeah, long explanation, I know, but I'll leave it here for anyone who's interested in it. Good day to all.
If you need inspiration or a similar story, I'd also suggest checking out the saga of Thorn/Dredgen Yor and The Last Word/Shin Malphur from Destiny. "The noble man stood. And the people looked to him. For he was a beacon - hope given form, yet still only a man. And within that truth there was great promise. If one man could stand against the night, then so too could anyone - everyone. In his strong hand the man held a Rose. And his aura burned bright. When the man journeyed on, the people remembered. In his wake hope spread. But the man had a secret fear. His thoughts were dark. A sadness crept from the depths of his being. He had been a hero for so long, but pride had led him down sorrow's road. Slowly the shadows' whisper became a voice, a dark call, offering glories enough to make even the brightest Light wander. He knew he was fading, yet he still yearned. On his last day he sat and watched the sun fall. His final thoughts, pure of mind, if not body, held to a fleeting hope - though they would suffer for the man he would become, the people would remember him as he had been. And so the noble man hid himself beneath a darkness no flesh should touch, and gave up his mortal self to claim a new birthright. Whether this was choice, or destiny, is a truth known only to fate. In that cool evening air, as dusk was devoured by night, the noble man ceased to exist. In his place another stood. Same meat. Same bone. But so very different. The first and only of his family. The sole forbearer and last descendent of the name Yor. In his first moments as a new being, he looked down at his Rose and realized for the first time that it held no petals: only the jagged purpose of angry thorns."
It's that simple, There's a notification that a song has been released, you click on it and add it to your playlist before even listening because it's gonna be amazing regardless! Nathan this is just amazing as always, you never fail to amaze us! From the first note I knew I had to add it to my playlist. It's simply amazing, all of your songs are so raw and heartfelt. Keep at it Nathan, can't wait for what you have in store for us next!
He who walks down the path through hell so that others will not need to walk it and fights in the dark so others will not know what horrors lay within.
I find the way you've used these archetypes in this quadrilogy fascinating, and I like how you've deviated from them in certain ways to craft these very compelling narratives through your songs, all tied around ideas of redemption and growth. The anti-hero is the lowest point, spiralling, unable to deal with the cruelties the world has thrown at them- the themes of redemption and growth have yet to grow, but I think the seeds are planted, this character doesn't have to be what they are becoming. It's an interesting contrast to both the modern, Punisher-esque definition of an Antihero and the classical "loser" Antihero, though a bit more tied into ideas around the latter in a lot of ways. The Hero is the everyday person rising up, realizing they and those around them have the potential to be heroes, that if they want to live their lives and protect what they love, they need to rise up themselves. Probably the most traditional idea of a hero in these songs, but the concept is incredibly varied anyways and it's executed well. The Villain is, if anything, a continuation of the Antihero in my eyes, and I like that despite the fact they've seemed to walk a dark road and do bad things, they're seeking redemption- it's a hard road to walk, but they'll walk it. The Villain of the title is past tense. The Antivillain I think is quite an interesting take- they're not someone who does evil things but has good reasons, they're the antithesis to the concept of a villain, someone who is guiding others towards the path to redemption and assuring them that they're not too far gone. These are some of my favorite songs of yours, you're a great musician and storyteller!
I wasn't expecting a fourth song like this but, it's a welcome surprise. Also, listening to the other three previous songs and then this one makes it seem like it's a story of two sides: The Anti-hero/ The Villain side, and The Hero/ The Anti-Villain side. The Anti-Hero side is telling the story of someone being afraid and doing the wrong thing and seeing themselves as a monster while The Hero is the complete opposite, a story of the same person overcoming fear and doing the right thing and seeing themselves as a hero. Likewise The Villain is the sequel to The Anti-Hero as the story of the individual trying to make it right, and teaching others not to make the same mistakes as them, all while The Anti-Villain is the sequel to The Hero as the story of the individual teaching others to take hold of their lives (or destiny like in the song lyrics) and to be like them, a hero who doesn't run from danger no matter how afraid they are and to always do the right thing by saving others. The only thing that would really be missing from this two sided mirror story is a song telling the story of those they taught using their teachings to be heroes of some sort, could be called "The Vigilante" or "The Sidekick" or something similar.
A reasonable interpretation, though I hear it a bit differently. While the song names certainly bring to mind the character archetypes, I hear it more as a matter/anti-matter relationship. With the amount of paralleled, mirrored, or even identical lines between The Hero and The Anti-Hero, for example, 'Made such a mess of my conscious // It's making me nauseous' being in both, 'My cities [city is?] in ruins // I'm feeling so useless' from The Hero parallels 'Look at all this devastation // Walk away humiliated' from The Anti-Hero, and 'I'm done with this panic // I'll hop into action' mirrors 'Memory, I panic // Created catastrophe,' I picture it as two survivors of a severely traumatic experience going down opposing paths, similar to a photon (light particle) decaying into a particle of matter and a particle of anti-matter. These particles then collide in The Villain =, 'I swear my time is coming soon // These visions fill my head // Can't play with darkness, pay no dues // It gets you in the end' demonstrates the Anti-Hero's expectation, possibly even desire, to be destroyed and the Hero is coming in to try to save them, 'I know you feel your destiny // Is tied within these memories // I promise if you let me we can turn around,' in an attempt to annihilate, as evidenced by the repetition of 'Let[/may] the light guide us[/you] home," and return to being light. I further feel the line 'You know we really are the same // Just broken souls' continues to reflect the idea of them being opposite, yet the same, such as an electron and a positron. While this annihilation appears to be partially successful, 'Let there be // Let there be // Let there be light // Let there be light,' the song does not end there. It ends with 'I'll take back my life//Take back my life // I'm sorry // So sorry // Swear I'll make things right.' I don't see any reason for this to come from The Hero, so I am left to conclude that while The Hero was annihilated, some portion of The Anti-Hero remained, albeit changed. Now The Anti-Villain, they go on to combat the 'lying Serpents' who possibly initially caused the trauma that split The Hero and The Anti-Hero. I also note that the lyrics specifically refer to 'chosen ones,' plural, which implies to me that The Anti-Villain still carries The Hero within them, which I feel is further reinforced by the triplets, which would be the voice of The Hero encouraging The Anti-Villain, for example, 'Come alive // Dead man rise // Let every soul be free' would harken back the the 'innocence vanquished' from The Anti-Hero and not letting them 'steal [their] soul.'
@@quinnbell2388 That's an interesting way to look at. I will admit it sounds a little better than mine, but looking back at mine and then yours does make me think it could be both of our interpretations happening. Like you showed with the mirroring lyrics, it seems to just be about perspective, specifically with the individual in the songs (weather it's two people with your in interpretation or just one like in mine).
This is one is awesome dude. Cant even imagine losing all your files that sounds like hell😭😭😭. But truly the ending to this one gave me chills. Have been going through a lot and trying to grow in surrender to Gods plan and the "im not afraid" part just hit me.
God listening to this gives me flashbacks to “Burn” and I loved that one to bits! I don’t listen in often, but every once and awhile when I come in I find yet another diamond. Phenomenal. I tip my hat to thee!
I love this tetralogy - the Antihero - the Hero - the Villain - the Antivillain. These may the most interesting of your works for me. Also it's interesting that this character tells about overcoming fear, but they're an anti-villain, so still close to a villain. We don't know their goals, and don't know if they should overcome their fear, if that would lead to something good.
I am *obsessed* with that violin! And I absolutely love me some intense moments of courage like 6:19! The lyrics feel like they're the Hero's growth arc. If my interpretation is correct, that would make Hero and Antivillain one character and Antihero and Villain the other, which is some really fun asymmetry! While you could easily write more songs based on roles in a story like The Protagonist (perhaps about narcissism?), you could also pick other stuff like you did with The Alchemist. For example: The Elucidator, The Thief, The Nameless, The Lionheart, or The Magician. There's a lot of potential for fun and interesting perspectives that I know you'd turn into an incredible song. Anyway, until next time, keep on being awesome Nathan! 🙂
I'm always listening to great songs Nathan Wagner, thank you so much for singing and making such a great song Every time I listen to the songs, it's so good that it makes my heart race Nathan Wagner, fighting. Good, good 👍👍
What? Wait what? 😭 Bro stop playing with our emotions. Can't have 16 favourites man😂 ABSOLUTE BANGER, brother. That intro is the greatest thing to ever exist
@@Callidus7SSMAnd what do people say when you have them listen to his songs? Do they go gaga over them and start listing off and explaining the emotional depth and complexities and potential themes and interpretations of these archetypes in the songs (like I do sometimes)? 😂.
I love the anti-vilain concept and how it can diverge from the concept of hero. Do what you must as long as your goal remains rightous. Soak your soul in the deapest abyss as long as your the only one to do so and that open a path to something better for the many instead of the few. Love the idea and think this is a hard but worth way of life.
Idk what instrument that is in the background in the beginning at 0:36 maybe violin or cellos or something but shit is soooo good I need more of that sound it feels so I badass
I haven't listened to you for a while and THIS is what I come back too??? You're literally the best. I also saw someone say it's your birthday today, so happy birthday, Nathan! Thank you for being here :)
This is a cinematic sounding masterpiece. It sounds as though it combines some of the best bits of your other music with this song. This long form style of track sounds amazing. Hope you always enjoy making your music!
I am working on a story, and for a while, the ideas I had did not feel right. The story did not feel good as I was working on the ideas I had, then this came out. Listening to this (which introduced me to your outstanding music) completely derailed everything into a good direction for inspiration with your Hero/Villain series, and I quite like what I have so far. This is absolutely beautiful work. Thank you, very well done, and best of luck with everything going forward.
I hadn't listened to your songs in a while (because I was intimadated by the amazing emotional load they always hit with) but I finally came back and this was like coming back to a warm hug. I loved it from the first line. Thank you.
All for songs tell a story of deep.sorrow and change. It's perfect for authors like me who want some fuel for the mind! Thank you for the songs you right, you are a wonderful music artist. I can never get enough even after hearing it more than 3 times!
Hello my friend thank you for the time and the effort and your heart and soul that you poured into this once again my soul speaks out to you. Just say thank you for everything you do and what you mean to me in my life. You’ve been a hero for me and probably don’t even know it, God bless you, Nathan.
Nie sądziłem że taka spokojna muzyka może mnie tak mocno uspokoić. Jeśli każdy anti - villain jest tak spokojny to ja muszę się jeszcze dużo nauczyć . DZIĘKUJĘ.
Man, I’ve been listening since back before the Anti-Hero was uploaded onto here and been listening since. Every single song has been a banger man, but more than that I’ve seen God come more and more alive in each and every one of them. It’s been a beautiful journey and transformation, and you’re a rockstar man, God bless, and Happy Birthday (according to other comments, I know nothing lol).
I've been listening to your music for a couple of years now, and I want to thank you for the insane vulnerability, depth and emotion you put in every song. Light has been one of my favorite songs in the entire world and got me through one hell of a dark time last year. And now we have this masterpiece of a new release that I think has taken that top spot, or at least is on par with Light in how it hits me in the feels. I didn't expect to be crying at 7 in the morning. Never give up on music, man. It's a blessing and a gift that's going to help so many more.
It honestly makes me a little sad when Nathan sells himself so short, thinking that no one would listen to his songs. I'd like to point out that 138K subscribers and 7.8K views in one day's time on this video would speak to the contrary. You've got a really amazing talent for music, a real passion for the stories you tell that can be clearly felt in each song, and above all, your love for the Lord that gets just about addictive for me to listen to through your songs. I've been waiting for you to release a new song just so I could add a word of my appreciation for you to everyone else's that beat me to it.
A song that i didn't expect would release, but definitly didn't expect i needed. This is awesome! You still remain my favorite artist, so thank you for all the great songs releasing
Ahhh! A bit late, but still here like always. ❤ You are always creating masterpieces, Nathan. This one is a perfect addition 🥹 thank you for taking of your time and uploading it. Appreciate you.
That opening was incredible ❤❤❤ i love this already!!!!! This is exactly what ive been looking from you (i love all your songs dont worry) I love this so much
AMAZING. You got the whole believing thing down right... because its epic, its real, its alive. And so many people antagonize it for the fleeting feeling of superiority, and so many people use it for their dead aspirations, putting wealth and prestige first and calling it belief. They do not understand that we aren't heroes yet, we were villains. And they own it. And nothing is sweeter than realizing this and becoming an anti-villain. So that one day one may, with His help, achieve the wisdom and strength to sacrifice which bound oneself and become a hero. But through none other than He who has made the greatest sacrifice.
Sounds great! I love listening to music that has just as much care put in to the instrumentals as the lyrics. This Melody at 0:36 is beautiful, lots of love man!
I love your music so much, it inspires me and so many others here. Thank you. I am going through a really really rough time with so many anxiety, nerves and nausea. Thank you for your music, Nathan❤
i wasn’t sure what to expect, but wow!! so many times the song changed to something that felt so different to your usual and my jaw was left open the entire time. Please never stop being the amazing artist and person you are❤️
This is so beautiful and so meaningful, so important for so many to hear. Amazing song, keep doing good work and remember to believe in your cause and your strength!
Nathan your music is just simply the best! I love vibing to it and thinking about the day ahead. You're truly an amazing musician, you always are and always will be!
Right? The fact that this man is not more well-known is a crime. Ghosts was one of the first I heard, and it always gives me chills. As so many of his songs do.
Glad to have you back brother,....once again, you've done it!,...another one to add to my training playlist.....I swear I think you and Boris Harizanov make up 75% of my playlists, lol
I heard this song as quickly as I saw the notification and every time you publish a new one I think "this is my favorite" but honestly they all are I always have your music on loop, I love them!!! I'm not lying when I say that you are my most listened artist, I recommend you to all my friends. Every day you improve yourself more, thank you for sharing your art with us keep it up
I’m late but I always love your stuff! It’s powerful and yet beautiful. Your songs also show everyone’s perspective in a story (Ex: Anti-hero,villain, hero, and now anti-villain) and it is a very unique way to write stories into songs! Keep it up man your music is great ❤
Happy birthday!! Another epic song, another character inspiration I have. Your music is the best for it. Like I tell people, it's music you can actually feel. I love it
Wow, just wow. I am speechless once again. The Villain, the Hero, the Anti-Hero and the Anti-Villain fit together so well. Love it, Nathan! I just finished and submitted my thesis yesterday and feel a bit lost now. Thank you for making my day. Your songs really help me understand my own emotions better and give words to them. I'm really sorry your files got wiped. Totally understandable it took you a while to make a new song. Much love

All I need to say is brilliant, your music takes me on a fantastic journey, your lyrics shoot in to my brain like bullets, thank you for the music, music is power❤❤❤❤
ohhh ive been looking forward to this one!!! the instrumentals that start at 0:35 is gonna get stuck in my head. i just know it. this might be a bit personal but whatever XDXP. this past year ive been praying a lot about what God wants me to do with my life. and doing my best to follow what he is telling me. its terrifying when its big things like going to college. and sometimes im scared that im going to fail... quite a few of the lyrics from this song have encouragements in that regard whether it was intentional in that way or not.. its really really appreciated. once again. you made an amazing song that speaks straight into my heart and no doubt the hearts of others aswell. definitely keep making music. cause you have a great talent here.
Dont stop man! Keep making music! I just discovered you on spotify, i played u on our last roadtrip and my family was dead silent while i played your songs. Trauma is my fav so far, i connect a lot with those lyrics. Thanks for being you brother, dont let anyone change u. On spotify btw some songs the instruments seem louder then u, poeple want to hear your voice! Lol my mom's account btw ha
Just realized I never commented on this, but I'm glad we got the Anti Villain song, now. It's so awesome, I still haven't heard it enough times yet. I honestly love this little mini series of songs, aha. Its a whole story, and I think that's cool
I thought the hero-villain song series was complete already. As usual, you managed to enrich it even more with this great addition. There is literally no boundaries to your creativity. Someone should write a song about a man who repeatedly one-ups himself against all expectations. Kind of like "The Alchemist" - but from a different point of view, of constantly achieving more than others expect (I can already guess that song will contain "you're enough" somewhere in the lyrics - I noticed you have a tendency towards that message, even though you seem to ignore it...). Thank you for not giving up on creating an ever expanding universe of musical inspiration for others to connect to.
tbh I think this one is my favorite of the quadrilogy! Maybe just because it feels like the one I resonate with the most. I am curious about the thought process that went into it though. It sounds almost like its sympathetic to this antivillain, supporting them in their antivillainous ways.

@@sgoldendragon3603 That's a really cool story you're working on! I'm definitely interested.
@@sgoldendragon3603 Wow! This sounds like an amazing story. I'm very interested!
Means absolutely everything! Thank you thank you. 😭
Same, yooo!!!!😂
THIS ^^^^^^^^^
He who walks down the path through hell so that others will not need to walk it and fights in the dark so others will not know what horrors lay within.
Thought "Hero" is still my favourite this is still peak
So glad you like it! Hero’s probably my favorite as well 😊
Same honestly.
100%
The lore keeps getting bigger and bigger , and im lovin the ride
God listening to this gives me flashbacks to “Burn” and I loved that one to bits!
I don’t listen in often, but every once and awhile when I come in I find yet another diamond.
Phenomenal. I tip my hat to thee!
I love this tetralogy - the Antihero - the Hero - the Villain - the Antivillain. These may the most interesting of your works for me.
Also it's interesting that this character tells about overcoming fear, but they're an anti-villain, so still close to a villain. We don't know their goals, and don't know if they should overcome their fear, if that would lead to something good.
1:49 Added to playlist. I was expecting strong violins, but your singing blew me away!
Love this, Nathan. Sorry I missed the premiere. You knocked it out of the park with this one amazing work . Happy birthday 🎂 ❤xxxxx
What about The Sidekick or The Vigilante?
@hannahmetzger4880 Ooh, also good ideas!
I'm always listening to great songs Nathan Wagner, thank you so much for singing and making such a great song Every time I listen to the songs, it's so good that it makes my heart race Nathan Wagner, fighting. Good, good 👍👍

Right? When I tell people about him I try to mention my favorite songs from him and the list always manages to get so long. 😅
I love this so much! I have Villains in my stories fighting for redemption, and this fits so well with their struggles.

IM LATE BUT ITLL NEVER BE NEVER!! What a song Nathan ! Anti hero, hero, villain , Anti-villain. THE SET IS COMPLETEEEEE

This is magnificent. I am speechless.
You are a genius.
Such a great song. Your songs never disappoint and always feel like they tell a story. I love listening to your songs and coming up with stories.
You are so talented nathan, i am so glad that i discovered about you years ago....!
The Villain is my favorite, but Anti-Villain is also incredible. Thank you so much!
tbh I think this one is my favorite of the quadrilogy! Maybe just because it feels like the one I resonate with the most.
I am curious about the thought process that went into it though. It sounds almost like its sympathetic to this antivillain, supporting them in their antivillainous ways.
Happy Birthday! Another great piece to my playlist :)
This is an absolute banger and will change many people's lives
This is Beautiful! Love your music! Would pay to see you live for sure!
